  1. NZ Giant Dragonfly, wingspan upto 13cm Can apparently eat upto 20 houseflies in an hour. (pic isnt the greatest, these were hard to get close to as they were almost always on the move, when they saw me coming anyway )
  2. it would have to be atleast 2 years old 8)
  3. interesting you say that, i have never been able to make up my mind on whether they do better with or without one... logic would say it gives them a place to hide, give them a little freedom of choice etc gotta be a good thing... not sure it works like that though.
  4. that beak doesnt look right. chick almost looks like a starling
  5. thats one way to get rid of red ears
  6. i never pay much attention to their shedding  bath doesnt hurt once in a while. i normally go for 26-30C water temp, deep enough for them to stand up in. sunlight seems to get mine shedding a bit faster. someone else may want to add their bit... im just a madman
  7. more often than not my bds only shed parts of their body at a time. i assume its normal. blue tongues on the other hand seem to shed completely within a day maybe 2.
  8. yeah 7days and hatch just interested to see if they would survive, some sites on net say 55-60days, ive incubated at 29-30 in past and pretty sure took longer than that. so maybe they do cope with higher temps. also wondered about it effecting colour, pattern etc...
  9. anyone tried extreme temps and or temps above 30C for red ears??
  10. not many available to keep currently which is a shame :-? think theres something like 40+ species found in the wild though, something to dream about seeing someday
  11. just been googling, seems it is found grown emersed in the wild i sense a moss and riccia tank coming on the cricket aka xmas moss is a great substrate for frogs, so easy to grow.
  12. reason i thought java moss is when grown submersed (low light here) it has very little structure at all.
  13. thanks, so java moss is the no frills version
  14. true, it some times grows like a pine tree if that what you mean. wouldnt be surprised if ive got java moss mixed with it, thats what i thought it was more likely to be as ive only ever had a little bit of xmas moss in tha past and im not sure where they went.
  15. my lizards dont appear fat imo easterns seem hard to get any weight on at times. infact i think lack of food especially good food may of been a factor in her not doing so well. pinkies i thought would be on the fatty side? exercise is a good point. large outdoor enclosures would be a good start. maybe more swimming although im skeptical about too much moisture.
  16. this looks like riccia but im not 100% sure on that. Think its either java or xmas moss, can anyone tell from those pics?
  17. almost looks like a hosta http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=nz ... 16&bih=595
  18. over feeding the tadpoles so excess goes to snails etc. same happens in fish tanks. snails are all good, not sure tadpoles could eat them, maybe some of the small ones.
  19. Thanks for all the positive comments. Especially big thanks to Livingart and Jennifer for your input She looks to be over the first hurdle or two now so thats great. Will be interesting to see how she goes over the next few weeks, especially so if she tries to produce another clutch.
