  1. dont see how it could dump anything really. if it does, does it then rework? once clogged surely thats it, now just a handy bag of media. unless some funky reaction goes on....
  2. is there any harm in leaving those little bags of carbon in the filter long term? good media/better than nothing i would of thought?
  3. must be het for albino as these were suppose to be albino, atleast that was my vision
  4. my axies never needed to get a grip, i just let them be who they want to be lol i always found them to live and breed happily in bare bottom tanks. some sands are ok, or you can use huge pebbles, but substrates are messy. only good for making the tank look natural and maybe causing impaction if you do use a substrate, can just put food on a kebab squer and hold down infront of the axie, maybe touch its nose. that way its not eating off the substrate. only takes a second to do.
  5. is the yellow normal hatchling coloration? i dont recall seeing it in the past, but maybe just never thought much of it....
  6. this site has some good info. http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-science/fresh ... fishfinder looks like a Galaxias to me but which one...pass or look here if havent already http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?PG=nativefish just setting up a tank myself after a couple of years without one your post reminded me actually  , only a small flood this time  ah the joys of fish keeping
  7. they do seem to like water. mine will often sit in the water bowl.
  8. i havent gone out of my way to look, but havent seen any stick insects or praying mantis lerking down this way for years :-?
  9. i only do it if theyre sick/look dehydrated, so not often. use to do it about once a month but no longer see the need. others may have a differing opinion
  10. my post was directed at nymox giving tui stick, but drinks it when its free
  11. nothing yet, but i want to breed something from what i can gather you can catch and keep pretty much anything legally (not ethically) excluding whitebait unless in season. buy native fish (think i recall some are sold in petshops now?). but cant sell without a licence, oh unless its whitebait  . so, what is going to happen to all these fish, which are effectively creeping into the pet trade but cant be sold? the average fish keeper isnt going to apply for a permit to release, so whats left, give away to another hobbyist (in the same island), cull or release? have i missed something or what :-?
  12. can some please put it simply. what can one do with fish that just breed in private aquariums?
  13. thats cool, maybe trying to be a lemon maybe just a variant or camo, i no next to nothign about them though so maybe someone else has another idea. wouldnt mind keeping some actually, and stick insects not sure about the wasps sorry. other than if your house had been sprayed with insecticide in the past.
  14. i keep food available to young frogs atleast 5days a week, should be 7 really but they dont need it. adults fed about 3times a week or every other day. too much is when they look fat i suppose, but they eat like machines so your doing well if theyre.. flies are good for a bit of exercise but wont make them grow like crickets and locusts will. theyre the best feeders you can get imo. traps are last millennium
  15. i just put in gently, give it upto 5minutes maybe even 10 but only if the lizard is chilled out/not trying to climb up the sides constantly etc. put back in enclosure, no need to dry off they normally go straight back to basking.
  16. i use a cardboard box easy to take out when feeding if need be. they sleep in it 99% of the time. if too hot or feel threatened in they go. i sometimes lift the box off them in the mornings if they sleep in to long, and give them a mist to wake em up
  17. Staff in pet shops are only human at the end of the day. Always try and look at the positive, like atleast there was a staff member available to talk to you.
  18. pretty much need live, but i suppose you could try bloodworm on the end of some tweezers. most small insects go down well.
  19. pretty sure it is. i didnt even know if it was a bully or not to start with
  20. i dunno but it sort of puts me off the bd eggs on toast
  21. about a km into the hills/forest. maybe 15-20km from sea stream where i found it is known to have redfin bullies, if thats what your thinking? likely one of them, but i dont know what other sorts are in the stream also nor how to tell them apart
