  1. Been meaning to try that actually, even have an old handheld here i never use. Could be worth a shot, saves getting the bigger vac out. Think it was on tv the other night, someone was collecting mossies for research. All they used was a jar, tube going in the top, with mesh over end inside jar. Another tube out the bottom of jar, where bugs get sucked up. You just suck the tube with mesh on while placing the other tube over an insect and wala, bug now in the jar. Moths being dusty may be interesting with that method.
  2. If you can use what is here that would be great. Im not the best at explaining things, you'l probably end up with ten pages of mumbled jargon  My name's not NZ Exotic's if im honest about it  I started putting the signature on mainly so people dont use my photos on trademe and the like's (without asking anyway), I can supply pics without to anyone who asks. Yeah thats a cheap little bagless vac, one I use for cleaning out the lizard enclosures. Can adjust the level/suck on it which is handy. I turn it down low for sucking up bugs, otherwise they can get a bit munted . May get away with just a standard vacume with that little adjustable hole open near the handle. Otherwise if still to powerful, make an extra hole in the jar lid, put another pipe in with a tap, turn tap to adjust air flow. Should work like a bleeder valve. The bugs in the jar may get swirled around a bit though. I just use it at the back door when theres hundreds of little bugs on the house around the light. Can suck most of them up without disturbing them and they all flying away, much better than a net etc. You can get neat little handheld bug catchers (vacume like things that look similar to that of a hand drill, or hair dryer for the ladies lol) over seas.
  3. You put the end of the vacume tube in the big hole in the jar lid. Then put lid on jar, now you have a jar with the vacume tube going into the jar (with fine material over the end to stop the bugs going up the vac) and the small clear tube is coming out of the jar. Now when you turn on the vac, its trying to suck air out of the jar, and because you have the clear tube going out of the jar the suction just travels up that pipe. Now you can walk around with the clear tube sucking up the bugs. Hope that makes sense  Probably should of just made a vid, but that idea failed the security clearance
  4. Simple we contraption I put together. Just make's catching all those little insects you see around the outside light a breeze, literally . Frogs (most herps for that matter) love the variety. So easy to make and most people will have the bits needed at home, give it a whirl
  5. whats the above mean in english, can anyone pimp my line or what im on full speed, yeah right time for a tui
  6. yeah just dont get the really cheap ones. plugs dont even fit in them properly, often causing them to heat up and fate decides the rest. they shouldnt be on shelves
  7. behind the NZ Eoxtics signature now i didnt notice it until looking on here
  8. dam 40gb would be nice. i get 10gb and thought my speed was reasonable
  9. Couple of short vids i took late last night. I normally just give the turtles duckweed, but azolla has taken over most of my troughs as of late, as it sometimes does. Anyway the turtles were sleeping whilst floating in the azolla. So i turned the radio and lights on which sure enough woke them  then i took a vid and a few photos to really wake them up 2nd vid theres a nice moment we shared at about 20seconds in, enjoy http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics#p/u/0/uYPoCLljj5g http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics#p/u/1/jO7GdeYUmO4
  10. i knew there was a speed test around here somewhere
  11. Mine, Download Speed: 4350 kbps (543.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 620 kbps (77.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Seems ok, but upload drags. Just curious what other peoples speeds are like....
  12. theres a reason we kill possum's whether we like it or not. some things just need to be done. better off stairing clear of these skinks imo, simply not worth the trouble. If you really want to do something useful, get a permit for a native
  13. have you ever seen a large male? i havent but have read lots of literature on snakenecks which suggests size isnt related to sex :dunno:
  14. Thanks A-town . The ones i let be more often than not just do it. Some ive tried to encourage havent done so well in the past. Now find it best to focus on the basics and amazing things just happen i find the red head interesting
  15. wouldnt see these in the wild here would we? if not, any ideas on what would look similar?
  16. true that. i suppose the turn around time has something to do with it aswel. any thoughts on the red patch that some seem to have on top of their head? third ear, just colour or third eye (false eye) even?.
  17. you would hope so. theyre a new product though, ill have to do some tests for quality
  18. true i wondered about that. still, a good little project none the less. i can supply some white and or black ears, twink and vivid not included though
  19. i suppose its the old...good things take time still would of thought there would be some around by now.
  20. the res are under rated. just think of taking one on as similar to that of a dog. its a serious commitment that can live for a long time these turtles are looking pretty cool  why have a never seen a yellow ear on trademe?
  21. Sun on cover all day. Only put that on a few months back and I think it will let some uv through, but maybe not. I lift up the side just about every day as it gets way to hot, so they get direct sunlight then. Prior to that had bird netting, pretty sure that lets through plenty of light. the red ears in separate pond but same area/cover are happy as.
  22. Good to know they can recover to a reasonable extent. I just find it weird that two of mine (smaller one (first pics) ive had for over five years, the other about 2) shed each year and always look in good nick. The rest shed but never look as smooth, maybe they just need more tlc.. Most ive had for four years or more, but all were atleast 3/4 when i got them. the difference must come down to the first few years of care. No doubt I could do more aswel though
  23. Looking great, the green pine is loving it
