  1. i am confused, what is the substrate that u've created?
  2. no there is no Asian arro breeders out side of Asia. not sure about importing companies but Jansen's has a few reds about 3 years back so why not talk to them
  3. there is always a chance so never hurt to try. easiest way is epson salt around half a tea spoon per 50litres. u can get it from ur chemist.
  4. it could be, i know thats what happening to one of my at the moment but i caught it early so helpfully it will recover.
  5. yeah i looked in to that couple of years ago but the head size is just too far off and i couldn't source any adaptors to make it work, i didn't know about those regs they sell on toolsonline then so they might work. have some CO2 equipment spare if ur keen, give me a PM.
  6. a few disease that cause the fish to bloat and scales to stick out are all called dropsy. with out doing an autopsy on the wee fella it would be hard to know. most common form of dropsy on goldfish is liver failure which proper orandas seem to get easily due to their deformed body shape and organ. mostly caused by extreme temperature change. another form is parasite which can be cured with peas and epsom salt but i doubt thats what it is by the sound of ur good up keeping, i've ever had it once in my early stage of fish keeping and the fish got sick again with the same thing and died a month after it was put back in the pond.
  7. i had a school of silver tips which i loved and they breed easily so the school just keep growing. what about poor man's neon [WCMM] i find they're one of the best schooling fish in terms of schooling even in small numbers in a small tank and they breed easily too.
  8. spots where the water doesn't circulate. put some carbon in ur filter and ur be set.
  9. i dont know what exactly he's got but it may cause him to have dropsy. there is no cure for this and its very unlikely its goin to make it sorry.
  10. yeah i do remember "yellow ancistrus" on the list, thought they were just GBAz.
  11. yeah like wok said, either way its harmless. but just so u know bloodworm is larva of midge [mosquito like insect] so they would have just spawned in ur tank if that's what u got. not sure about tubifex worms.
  12. very interesting rcon, never seen the ones with out the whites before.
  13. probably just bloodworms. from over feeding or not cleaning the filter enough. no real threat and the fish eats them
  14. is that catfish not just a brown bullhead? :-? careful with those things they have sharp toxic spine on their dorsal fins.
  15. is ur 200L a high tank? i find T8 tubes dont penetrate very well anything deeper than around 40cm.
  16. looks like u need more lights which there is not really a cheaper way to go about it unless u can wire ur own. wouldn't bother with much else like fertilizer.....etc as with out a good light source ur just going to get algae problems with those. some basics to help ur amazons are remove all damaged leaves [yellow or torn with brown patches] as amazon sword are incapable of repairing themselves. Snip off any non-white roots and snip the tips off any healthy roots. all these will help encourage new growth and avoid the "dieing off" process which is the plants own way of saving it self. when the swords get too damaged it triggers itself to die off and start over.
  17. guess they'll fall in the same category as the WCMM where they'll always be plenty around from breeders but next to none in the wild.
  18. sounds pretty good penguinleo, what is the lighting and what size tank? any direct sun light?
  19. u'll only be able to fit one plant in there so i say go for a lily. i have several half wine barrels and one of them has a lily and its warm enough so the lily doesn't die off over winter.
  20. so simple, now why haven't i thought of that  thanks alan
  21. i personally dont like the yellow clay color look so i mix it with Daltons propagating sand.
  22. couple of my tanks have a thick layer of peat but its for plecos so i wanted the really soft tanned water. it really doesn't get much cheaper than Daltons Aquatic mix [$10 for a 15 litres?] whats the tank size u want to cover?
  23. MiNcIE, u can help by making them exercise. one very simple thing i do is just put a whole carrot in the tank and they'll have a hard time trying to eat it as it rolls everywhere as they bit it.
  24. rcon, is that last one the new pitbulls?
