  1. planted cichlid tank :-? what type of cichlids are u wanting to keep? its not an very successful combination due to their behavior and ph of the water but doesn't mean its not achievable.
  2. that's a lucky brake blue, glad u found one.
  3. sorry to hear that shadowfax
  4. thats great news Billaney, so ur raising them in the same tank as the parents? thats interesting
  5. i use the same bulbs for my 3' and 2' double fittings but have one 'Natural Sunlight' and the other "Warm White". their nice long lasting bulbs and seem to do well in planted tanks. i buy my in box of 20 [wholesale] so its a lot cheaper but $18 a tube IMO seems very reasonable.
  6. shadowfax from the pic it looks like a very healthy and strong fish which makes a huge difference. i've seen fish recover from much worse cuts. why not keep an eye on it, keep the water clean and add melafix. if u can put it in a hospital tank.

they're panaque so they don't even do that  [don't really clean algae] this sure is a funny hobby
  10. yeah i was surprised to see the eggs been so individual in that first pic, if that makes any sense. so both ur ansistrus spawns have been in bamboo?
  11. ouh no way nice one blue i love these little guys. more pics please
  12. nice pics there blue, how many did u end up saving?
  13. fluke is a type of worm/parasite
  14. ouh yeah i've keep goldfish with them too. i feed them quit a bit of goldfish [from culling cuz i breed them] and one day they just left one of them alone. the one they left alone soon grow too big for the tank and that was about 6 odd years ago and i still have him in my pond ever since then i've keep fish with my turtles is a great way to keep the water clean as they're messy eaters.
  15. i've keep guppies, WCMM, small jags and cons. anything u put will be eaten its just matter of time. if u keep the turtles while feed it should be fine.
  16. thats a good one, funny yet true
  17. lighting its not a big prob if its indoor. when fish gets lazy or weak they like to either float or rest at the bottom and when they float they can burn themselfs under strong light. if he was still eating and getting thin with rapid respiration i would think the same as Caryl and most properly fluke. keep an eye on the rest of ur fish and see if there is any symptoms of the fish getting pale, fins drooping, heavy and rapid breathing, rubbing itself against decor or subtract or getting abnormally thin. if they show an combination of the above then they mite have it too so u may need to treat ur tank but treating for fluke is a messy job that discolor the water. [potassium permanganate 2 mg per liter is what i use]
  18. its a very small comet for an 10 year old, what are u feeding them? black mark on goldfish is usually caused when a wound is healing [like a scab] or burn from water conditions been too acidic, high nitrate, ammonia or lighting. either way its caused after the fish has been hurt or weakened so its not the cause of its death but the result of something else. u said it was very thin was that because he stopped feeding or it was thin even when it was eating? any white patches? split or ragged fins? sorry for ur lost
  19. yep, that goes for all fish really. it makes me angry when ppl ask what sort of condition should i be keeping my fish at, u think they would find out how to care for them first before buying a living animal. i dont think its really up to us but more for the ppl that are buying and selling these fish. not at all, in fact i would be against them. its one thing to have them as ornamental its another if they breed. not really, they're a lot more unethical things to worry about then GE fish. if their not infertile i would suggest not to have them for sale permanently.
  20. i am unaware of any other fish besides the TK-1 aka glofish. i personally dont see a problem with them as they're infertile [i highlighted as a few ppl still talking about these breeding] so purely ornamental fish. as long as ppl understand what their buying, why not? they're not new and has yet to cause any problem, my only concern would be if it gets out in to our water ways and consumed by other fish it may cause side effects :-?
  21. still no joy. so u have a fresh bunch of eggs right now? let us know how it goes
  22. that looks great Sharkey, is that an original idea or u've seen it done somewhere? i really like it as i always ask to see the filtering system anyway. sometimes i enjoy watching the their skimmers as much as looking at their actual tank
  23. yeah thats what i mean. she also has albino's for sale.
