    Hercules on TM?

i guess it was not as big as they thought and looking at the pic if the body was 35cm the tail was certainly not 20cm so not a record breaker. still a very large goldfish.
  3. pretty much what plantman just said with the lighting but u shouldn't need co2 to grow those stem plants although it would make a huge difference. most cases of melting plants are caused by lack of or over supply of nutrients so in ur case i would say lack of. i think the main problem here is lighting and since its a pretty high tank i personally don't think T8 penetrates deep enough. i have a 3 foot, the water deep from surface to subtract is around 40cm, at the start i had heaps of problems with this tank as i couldn't seem to find the right light unit for it and didn't want to go MH because of the cost and i already have another tank running MH, i ended up with T5s, although not the cheapest it was the cheapest that works. does the tank have an algae problem?
  4. would need a bit more info, things like how many litre tank, height of the tank, light, water conditions..... most common cause are excess nitrate, Unclean water, improper nutrients, insufficient light or new subtract with out fertilizer. u said its mainly the stem plants, how are u planting them? when planting stem's cut just below a joint at the height u want then discard the lower half with the existing roots.

    Hercules on TM?

thats a pity, not at all surprised though.
  6. i personally found PL tubes to be a bit useless for plants. i sold both my PL units in less than 6 months. bought the exact unit of the same seller. even though they're two tubes in the unit they produce as much light as single T8, they would be good if u can find a unit that takes 4 tubes. also the starter unit are on the side rather than the top means there is about a 10cm gap either side before the tubes start which leaves the sides of the tanks poorly lit.
  7. for me it was around 6 weeks but then u have the process of 2 weeks of warming up and that's when u condition the female. after the conditioning they need a cold night then slowly warm back up in the morning, that's when they spawn.
  8. yep it can be done, the males are easy its the females u have to convince   its not hard, they need a period of cold temperature [winter] and then just condition and spawn them normally but indoor of cause cuz ur need to raise the temperature with a heater. i've done it once as a personal challenge but keep none of the fry due to obvious reasons. its not often done because of the space u would need and we have too many fry from one season to take care of as it is. most breeders separate their stock just to stop them from breeding once they have the spawns they wanted for the season.
  9. could it just be an over sized Adipose fin?
  10. the lung fish would be a bichir of some sort. these are very desirable and harder and harder to get so u'll get a good price for it. as for the pacu u would be having a hard time just given them away to a suitable home so selling them would be very very hard unless sold to a novice. u will just need to wait for the right buyer for an arowana, although their desirable not everyone has that sort of size tank to house them. good luck on finding them all a good home

    Hercules on TM?

most probably a koi or just an over exaduration of the size. would be fun trying to catch the beast
  14. if u touch it and its still there or falls off but still in solid form than yes, if it just goes slimy than no.
  15. heaters are not forever i am afraid so depends on how old it is maybe its time to get a new one.
  16. yeah i remember reading that as well but i am sure the percentage was higher.
  17. would have thought if ur goin to spend that sort of money u would take them all for breeding, pointless just having one david, they're albino with red eyes and it was wild caught where there was other bell frogs.
  18. yep thats where i found out how to do it, been doing it for years and all the frys seem happy enough
  19. vinegar and water. i find they hatch faster this way which is a bonus.
  20. its sick really, right next to dyeing.
  21. i decap my before hatching them just because its less messy with out all the shells floating around after hatching.
  22. has anyone seen anything like it? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=87530765
  23. yeah if u decapsulated the eggs ur self i can hatch them or feed them straight but i thought the ones for sale on TM couldn't be hatched, guess i am wrong
