  1. I noticed some odd behaviour going on in the Fronny tank early this evening.. I have 3 reasonable sized clowns in there and two in particular decided to tell the third one to sod off... which is highly unusual due to the fact they are always side by side in their little group. Sadly I missed out on taping most of the behaviour on the digital camera, but I caught the tail end of it... It wouldn't be classed as usual or normal behaviour in our tank anyway... Especially with the third party told to rack off  Anyway here it is.
  2. Awwwwww heck, sorry to hear the news Loopy.. keep us posted, I hope there is more light at the end of the tunnel than what you think on first glance..

    Juwel Heaters

Have heard that Juwel heaters are ok, yet haven't tried them myself. We steer clear of Jebo and Masterpet.... bleh :-? Jagar we use of which are excellent and Aqua One even tho not your most expensive, yet not a cheapy... are excellent too, we use alot of Aqua One heaters in our fish shed and Jagar in our display tanks inside. The Aqua One heaters now come with a 3 year warranty, they used to only come with a 6 month warranty. This year it changed to 3 year.
  4. Depends at what level Ira... C1 injuries are often fatal. I know of injuries where the spinal cord has been crushed or severed and at C1 level often the victims end up dead. Severing the head right off is alot different to a neck or back injury anyway...
  5. Yeap.... They silly enough or more so greedy enough to do it
  6. I would have thought that severing the spinal column would have meant instantaneous death... :-?
  7. There is one other species that would give him a run for his money, that being Astronotus ocellatus... they are silly enough to cram whatever size morsel in and force it down.. never mind the fact they may have indigestion later..
  8. All done fattycatty  getting carried away with the submit button aye  Forums seem to be running slow at the moment, pages taking ages to load....
  9. Very nice fish firenzenz.. 8) Ryan - In regards to both the Jacob variants you have... simple. variant 1 and variant 2 a good label for each   What I can't understand is people naming their species of peacock a certain variant when they never arrived as the named variant to start with. Peacocks would be one of the hardest african to identify via photo and what it can look like in the flesh can make it look so different in a picture huh. I know you yourself don't agree with people naming their peacocks certain variants if they haven't come in as exactly that.. me just being cheeky with the suggestion of V1 and V2.. hehehe
  10.    And yeah it was great catching up Brad, Frenchy suggested we make it over your way for a LFS tour, Frenchy said he would even dust off his tour suit aye Frenchy...

    gold rams

I always leave the light on if I have a pair of cichlids guarding their spawn with other fish in the tank... once lights go out, fish slow down, and then the nocturnal scoffers come out

    gold rams

Heya mitzy It could have been either one, one or both of the parents or the kuhlis... Did you keep the light on the tank at all times or turn it off at night?
  13. Thanks for sharing that Brad 8) Its good to have feedback from someone who has actually experienced it, with keeping large fish here its definately the way I would go about things if I had to put one down, so after reading that, it sits a bit better with me using that method. I have a huge old plec who is showing signs of going down hill, may have to use the clove method on him in the near future.
  14. Great pics AP, fish look great to... 8)

  16. Tank looks awesome, well done 8) Gotta love peacocks in a display
  17. So great to hear from you Frenchy , they have grown alot since babies... major hogs for food
  18. Thanks guys... Yeap Ryan there is, and actually she was a cull out that I threw in there for the frons to munch   Before I got rid of the DB harem I stripped a female and fed the babes out to the frons... all got eaten bar the one in pic of which has now grown up   Talk about survival of the fittest  And it had to female *cough cough*
  19. Thanks Tiden.... need as much luck as I can get.. they seem to have split personality disorder and are into volatile relationships... I am not sure they should be bringing fry into the world   Actually it's something I am going to look at doing soon. They just look so innocent and shy, but they are actually the devil reincarnate in fish form
  20. Heya Tiden Definately can tell with behaviour whos who in the zoo  Our alpha male is a crack up.... I guess you can never be 100%, however, after a while you get to really click on with behaviours in the tank... They are currently digging pits at the moment. Well the trets.... I have 3... I originally sold them... sold the 6... 2 got nailed with new owner (not surprising as they are dangerously aggressive) then situation changed with the owner and I got offered them back... so I got the 4 back (however one was obviously the next weakest link and was being given a bashing) so it didn't last... and well the 3 left are fine and dandy, pretty sure there is a male/female in there.. I have seen them together sussing out a cave... however, I will end up netting them and placing them in a very heavily rocked and caved seperate species tank. I reckon they would have to be one of the most aggressive tangys out! Enough to leave beads of sweat on your brow watching them with each other
  21. Another thing to watch for is rats tunneling their way in, I know of someone recently who lost a whole aviary full of beautiful british budgies to rats.... plucked them off overnight...
  22. Thanks guys... and don't worry Ant N, get as much as you can done now, they are a major distraction having them... just so beautiful... I have never once regretted ever getting fronnies, I love them to bits... and their personality is just great. And watching them grow from such tiny babies is so awesome.

    Small fish

Bumblebee gobies thrive alot better in brackish conditions... it is really sad to see so many kept in fresh water.
  25. I agree with evil, our discus tank was around 6.2ph and they had various tetras and tank mates that thrived in the tank... there is no set rule that any such peaceful community tank needs to have a PH of 7, it's definately not set in concrete. It all comes down to individual fish requirements. However a sudden PH change can shock a fish and cause death, some fish are more sensitive than others.
