  1. AP is that your name? Darn I was near on making a trip to Palmy nearly every weekend to see my brothers... but at the moment we won't be going back there for a few weeks. If anyone is coming to Napier at all tho from that way and could get the fish to me, I can happily send to AP in Auckland?
  2.   Sorry but I think it is a hoot, I can imagine the embarassment too
  3. You have to have a permit to keep the skink, you obtain a permit... as far as I know it is easily done... Not sure how it would cope now being released.. ?
  4. With a heap of filtration and turning the stones over (gravel syphon) and cleaning the glass
  5. The eggs will be Blockheads or Convicts.. Did you see any particular species hanging around inside the cave... it will be either two 8) Hopefully you haven't disturbed anything, however, you possibly could have disrupted them.. fingers crossed for you You could always take the eggs and raise them yourself if you are worried Would also mean you won't lose them to hungry fish in the tank later on too 8)
  6. Keep this thread clean and nice or it will be locked

    Acrylic tanks

The ones that used to be made here out of acrylic were hugely expensive.... was much dearer than glass that is for sure. And for the huge money spent on one from this area, I would have been spewing it ending up with scratches

    Acrylic tanks

Hmm acrylic tank... seen a few... and boy do they scratch and mark up so easily..... knew someone who had to get the scratches buffered out... more than once.. and what a hassle. Very easily scratched, as The Conch says it's soft. Tank was fantastic tho, but the scratches stuck out big time.
  9. Well hope your week starts looking up for ya now Sending grow baby ram vibes your way Yes.. masterpet heaters!! Nasty is too nicer word
  10. I would have to agree SW, we have found Aqua One heaters excellent, we have Jagar, Aqua Ones and they are both excellent. Jebo hmmm :-? Sorry to hear you lost your male mitzy
  11. I wish we could make it, but hubby has to work on the weekend, if we had of known earlier, he could have possibly taken leave I hope you guys have heaps of fun and would love to catch up at maybe a next one?
  12. Quarantine is a good idea, I agree, I have found rather a few fish that have come in from importation needing a good dose of treatments, especially a fair few of the africans that have come in off and on... in recent times. And the Gold Saum that we recently got, boy did they need treatment
  13. Usually they will break away from it mitzy 8) At times I have got a fine pair of tweezers and very gently moved the old dead ones aside or out if possible... prior to the viables hatching... Our Oscars that just recently hatched moved away from the white fluff on their own as their were some that turned a bit funny prior to them breaking away, along with our Sajica also... just make sure it isn't caked too much.. Good luck And keep us posted With the water changes, I start doing them when they are free swimming and feeding.... not too bigger water changes tho, just small ones 8)
  14.  Wassssup homey P :-? :-? :-? Yeah ants hopefully will have photos on tonight Get hubby to do the lil' ol' transfer thing and I'm away laughing..
  15. I am currently talking to Mince online and after wiring the second he now has a new crimpy hair style, toasted eyebrows and leg hairs have spiral perm
  16. They are an outstanding fish and definately underated IMO... The reason I like the species I have for the set up is the fact that they grow to a nice size so Frons won't eat them .. Bonus one... and they are tolerant of hard water conditions 8) My species originate from New Guinea. Hmm there are so many species out there, the one you saw could be one of many, if you have a good search on net, you should find a website dedicated to Rainbowfish and they have so many different profiles There are also some nice species from Australia Ryan - Yeah neat little article and love the Calvus (I do believe I drooled over the picture ) You got a spare tissue? I just caught one of the Polystigs playing dead on top of the bit of slate in the tank... laying flat on side but way alert... they definately swim in a pack around the tank too 8)
  17. The reason why I asked is the fact that there were rather a few short fins being bred down this way is all.
  18. Hahahahaha Ryan, how did I know that was coming... I will try and get some shots tonight, they are darn buggers to try and get pics of in that tank, I end up getting just a speckled blur   Then I end up losing my rag with the camera
  19. Umm are you sure your female isn't a shortfin male? Just checking... 8)
  20. Oh ok  I have some old shots..... but not up to date ones, will get some tho and update in a day or two 8)
  21. Huh? Below is a good read 8) HTH http://www.theaquarians.net/ArticlesandWallpapers/dither_fish.htm Tropheus - I have been told they max out at around the 12 inch mark, however, they are very slow growing, my guy is around 8 inch I guess... love him to bits 8) He is a real fatty too, needs a corsette
  22. Thanks guys 8) Aquatopia - Yes they are in the one big 8ft tank, around 900 litres. 2 very large Aquis 2400 canisters under the tank. It is more or less the frontosas tank once they fully mature, they are just sharing with a few tank mates at the moment.. utilising space. Have in there: Frontosa 6 Leleupi in there. 1 spare J. marlieri male Some Rainbowfish as dithers. Bosemani, Red Incisus, Blue Rainbow. 6 Polystigma grow ons, coming out in about 2 months. 3 Neolamprologus tretocephalus Altolamprolgus compressicep 3 Clownies and Rusty Plec.
  23. Yeah as far as I know or have been told the bags are purposely toxic free solely for the whole idea of fish in the first place  It is amazing the amount of people do tho or have done.
