  1. I just bought a small A. rigidifolius so will get a photo when it's bigger.
  2. I have willisii in there and did have cordata but lost it unfortunately. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on some more but would need quite a few plants I think.
  3. I don't know really, anything that will fill the gap around 10-20cm tall. Have you got something suitable?
  4. This model has just been replaced with the 2700; more turnover and better media I think. Organism has them for the same price that the 2400 was, so might pay to wait til your local gets them in.
  5. Damn, thats no good. Barclaya would fill the void nicely Did a rescape today and cleaned all the algae off the side and rear panels of glass. The tank looks much nicer now. I'm still forever in need of mid-ground plants though. They seem so hard to find.
  6. :-? I rearranged the tank about a month ago and since then nothing has really grown much apart from algae. The algae has gone now but the plants aren't growing as much as they were, if any (not even pearling anymore ). So there's clearly something wrong with the diffusion of the CO2 even though nothing's changed. So overall I'm pretty frustrated and hoping it will sort out soon. Maybe another rearrange over the long weekend...
  7. The units themselves get hot, but the rest of the room won't heat up comparable to a sauna. But if the room is small enough it will be a nice temp, but not hot. I have two 150W'ers over my 6 foot and it's just enough spread-wise. The light easily penetrates to the substrate at 2 feet tall (plus another ~40cm (distance from light to water's surface). One of the best things you get from MH lighting is the ripple-effect when the water moves on the surface, it's pretty cool to see. Regards to using CO2, it would be better if you did, but it can be done without it. I had a tank in high school that had a single MH over it, without any ferts and only DIY CO2 every now and then, and I had great growth.
  8. awesome fish, nice job!
  9. Take your pick starts 40 seconds in. I love that ending... or
  10. Yea, but trav advertised a filter on here a few weeks ago, which I said I'd buy. But he seems to have disappeared.
  11. Tried pm'ing DEE too but no reply either. Will try the email.
  12. used to be a shop in Greerton, Tauranga with that exact same name. Gone now though.
  13. Eventually, but by that time the moss should have a good hold on the wood. I still had cotton under the moss after a year of being in the aquarium.
  14. If anybody has the phone number (preferably home) for trav could they please pm it to me as I need to get in contact with him. Thanks
  15. yea, I keep mine at room temperature and they still 'work'.
  16. I got shown this link yesterday and I think it's pretty good. Maybe it could become a sticky? I don't know if you have to ask permission or anything from them though . http://www.jsctech.co.uk/theplantedtank/algae.htm
  17. I have a polystyrene box with potting mix and feed on luncheon. I keep them in the stand underneath my tank and I've got tonnes of them!
  18. Cicada's don't seem to be very good at winning. Wasp ate a pretty decent sized hole into it.
  19. Can't say I do sorry. I think Air Liquide in Christchurch sells them, but not sure. You will probably have to do some ringing around.
  20. I got the bottle (5kg) off Kiwiplymouth on this forum, he got it from one of his mates. The regulator/solenoid is off ebay. Airline tubing from Bunnings and made the reactor.
  21. I wouldn't do it, soon you'll be the one trying to sell them
  22. I agree with Suphew, with a tank that deep you should be looking into metal halide lights. I have 2 150W ones over a 180cm tank so 3 should get a good spread over yours. If you can find shop fitting's and rig them up to a hood/above the tank somehow yourself it will be a lot cheaper than the proper aquarium ones (although they do look nicer). If you are wanting it to be heavily planted pressurised CO2 will be the way to go. A full setup will cost at least $300, then the amount of ferts you will be dropping into that tank it is best to make your own rather than buying branded stuff. But we can get to that later on down the track when it's set up. As Suphew says, if you are wanting a nice, heavily planted tank you can't go nuts on one thing ie lighting and skimp on the rest. It will be quite a handful and time-consuming until it's set up and running well.
  23. I don't think we do, I've never seen them before.
