  1. At this time of year most plants died off even in an unheated glasshouse. Some came away again in the spring but I used to move most into the house under artificial light.
  2. If you only have submersed and rooted plants available you can grow them (and rotala) easily by laying them out on wet potting mix and covering them with a thin layer of wet potting mix or vermiculite. Keep them warm and wet in a glasshouse or similar and soon there will be sprouts everywhere. Cut when mature enough and root in a glass of water. If you have the varigated variety you should see signs of varigation in submersed or emersed growth (even if only a little).
  3. I used to grow it emersed in a glasshouse then take cuttings and soak the ends until rooted---plant in tank and all new growth was heavily varigated.
  4. Elodea canadensis (canadian water pest/oxygen weed)?
  5. Rosanervig is a registered name so can only be used by the registered owner. It may be that sunset is another name for the same plant. It is likely that your plants were grown emersed and the varigation is not nery obvious in emersed plants. In my experience they convert to submersed growth easily in good light and the colouration shows in the new growth.
  6. Welcome and I hope your bearded friend comes right
  7. I read somewhere that hi nitrate restricts the varigation but have not tested the theory.
  8. You may be making your own melafix
  9. Thinking of you and yours A. Good luck.
  10. Must confess I have just bought digital temperature controllers, ceramic lampholders and ceramic heat elements from Ebay at between one quarter and one half of the price here (and that is delivered to the door). From China, Hong kong and Great Britain.
  11. Just a guess from a distance. Can observe finrot---needs an antibiotic. Fungus is an oportunistic infection that will often follow finrot. The other "fungus" may be columnaris which needs to be hit hard and rapidly, hence my preference for furan. Other antibiotics are prescription only. Not compulsary but it is what I would use.
  12. Unfortunately it is the real world. Some shops down here sell on trademe as well and at a discount. I think the shops will need to get used to it to survive because it wont go away.
  13. People have been known to feed carrot to enhance the red colour in reptiles but too much is not a good thing. I have never kept bluies but I would not feed carrot to my reptiles. Plenty of better things out there.
  14. I would treat with furan2 as it will treat fungus, columnaris and finrot.
  15. Carrots are hi in A & E as I understand it and both are fat soluble so can cause poisoning if taken in excess. I know someone who was drinking heaps of carrot juice to get vitamin E (good for the liver) and got growled at by the doctor for drinking too much.
  16. There is finrot going on as well and that is bacterial---needs an antibiotic.
  17. When you look at how far down it was and therefore how much material has been moved for that to be seen at the surface it makes us pretty insignificant.
  18. How do they go with the high vitamin E levals in grated carrot?
  19. MPI might like to look at why these were released from quarantine by them and wether it might be better to employ someone who can identify fish rather than treat diseases in cows and horses. There are experts in identifying fish out there---perhaps if not sure they might like to ask them.
  20. There are lots of things going on in quakes. One thing that put the frighteners in to me was the picture in the paper of the road in the Greendale shake where the fault went accross the road and one part move 4.2 metres so that the white line was in line with the side of the road. I used to travel that road at least once a week.
  21. vege/fruit extract means what it says. It contains some amount of something extracted from vegetables and/or fruit. A totally useless statement which would indicate to me that the product is probably the same. If they were serious, they would state the amount and the product that has been extracted. I new of a juice extraction company that got sick of dumping the seeds and skins of the fruit they were extracting the juice from so they sold it to the local icecream factory who said things like "contains real raspberries", and it did ---sort of.People saw the seeds and thought it must be true.
  22. Is Seddon a suburb of Wellington? Wellies seem to have claimed it as their own
