  1. Did they offer to post the pump parts in a plain brown wrapper?
  2. Have a look at the plantgeek site. It says they are best in a paludarium, which is a polite way of saying they are best emersed in a moist atmoshere. There are a number of anubias sp. and many of them are quite large. I know a person who grows quite a few of the rarer ones and they are all emersed. The rootstock should not be buried and they are generally slow growers so are subject to problems with algae. Having said that I must admit I don't grow them. I tried growing nana emersed but it croaked in my set up ---to dry.
  3. The little stems with the wee round blob on the end are the flowers which would open if out of the water. Leave the plantlets until a little bigger (like twice as big) then bend them gently back towards the mother plant, and if ready they will come away as seperate plants. If you don't cut the runner off you may give some of the smaller (not as advanced) plants a chance to mature as well. You need to cut off about 1/3 of the roots and plant them out. Most sword plants when transplanted regrow the roots and the old ones die off.
  4. Pictures of emersed leaf growth would also help people identify plants that have been commercially grown emersed.
  5. Don't forget to post some so they can be put up on the plant guide section.
  6. This is a large plant (650mm high) which remains submersed and has no desire to become an emersed tank buster which leaves you looking at stalks only. Very difficult to propagate both submersed or emersed, but easy to grow.
  7. It is likely that it has been grown emersed anyway.
  8. My understanding is that they are not easy to grow, particularly submersed.
  9. Goldfish produce a lot of waste and therefore can change the chemistry of the water quickly. Lots of water changes.
  10. did you mean finances or fiances?
  11. If you put tortoises it will find tortoise?
  12. I think most people are concerned for Maf's ongoing psychological state so figure that what they don't know they don't have to worry about.
  13. Pots are good for discus but angels like to spawn near the surface. I used a 100 x 100mm square of slate with stainless steel hooks hanging at the surface and hatched the eggs in a 150 x 150mm tank with an airstone. If you feed them well and take the eggs out they will spawn every couple of weeks.
  14. If you do a google search for Echinodorus parviflorus tropica and look at the tropica site you will see the plant I mean. They are in NZ and I have one but would be keen on some more if that is what you have. I suspect they also are not easy to propagate.
  15. This is quite a small plant. Do you have a pic of yours?
  16. Very slowly. I am hoping to eventually grow some emersed and get some seeds.
  17. I remember having them at school but that was a hell of a long time ago. They would all be ladies dresses by now.
  18. Have done the bare tank and cardboard container thing. Waiting on next batch of locusts to give it another go. Got my first offspring into winged adults yesterday but numbers are very few so have to get something going quite a bit better. Will keep you posted. I need to get them going to get a better diet for my frogs.
  19. Echinodorus horizontalis plant grown submersed. This is a very rare plant because it is not normally commnercially grown as it is so slow to propagate. Echinodorus leopard is a hybrid of this plant and that is why it has a low form and is also hard to propagate. The leaves grow horizontally hence the name.
  20. Sorry I didn't make it, will try to get to the next one Alan
