  4. Nice photos I have some in my display tank I have those gold heads plus some gold heads with a chocolate body I have owned a few Gold Comps Black Calvus White Calvus Mbita Pearl So slow growing What fry food are you feeding them when you get them hatched? Brad
  5. Just to let you all know Im already booked in to meet him Hopefully I will get some time to talk to him and try and learn something Shouldnt be to hard lol I dont think he is going to NZ yet Maybe next time Brad
  6. I dont think we are confused I dont believe BLOODWORMS are a good for fish A leading vet here in Australia did a study on the effects of fish being feed Bloodworms He found although the meaty substance of the worm was being digested the exoskelton was wasnt This ended up causing blockages to smaller fish and fish with smaller intestines As a whole its not a nutritious diet for any fish Why risk feeding it in large amounts when they are numerous higher quality foods avail.? Brad
  7. Freakyfish

    ID please!

looks like a Salvini to me http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=26 obviously a better picture yours but still thats what it looks like to me Brad
  8. Bloodworms are not a good food for any fish yes they condition a fish up but are they really doing the fish's overall health any good Ive severely allergic to them to the point where I cant even touch the packet http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/food-for-africans-vp226112.html#226112 Brad
  9. Wow what brand is that I sell em here cheap but im alittle to far to come and get em Brad
  10. My condolences to a great man I had the pleasure of meeting Alan and Rose when they visited Australia and I had a great time Justin showed him around LFS of Gold Coast and Brisbane The hobby has lost a great person today His passion for fish was amazing Its just so hard to imagine he has gone Brad
  11. LOL well dome Seachem's Matrix is a media made from pumice stone Awesome stuff for holding bacteria as it has a very large Surface area Brad
  12. I dont feed exclusively but pretty close All the Africans in the shop get mainly NLS with Brine and Mysis shrimp occasionally I heard that I was allowed to send NLS into NZ but I never tried to I know people here in tried to buy some from the states and it was held up at customs Brad
  13. I use and sell heaps of NLS Its a really good food with great results in the fish Brad
  14. Definalty the more media the better but there are better things top use instead of BioBalls Bioballs are more efficent when used out of water not submerged Your better using Noodles for the cheaper option and then Matrix as the dearer option Brad
  15. Here is a pic of my Pair Sadly I dont have them anymore Brad
  16. They definalty slow down abit with media Most likely actual water turnover of about 1400-1500 lph Easily big enough for your tank unless your heavily over stocked Make sure its clean inside as they slow down alot when dirty Brad
  17. OK I have a few for ya Im pretty sure the tropheus Moorii double star (new) are Bulu Pt Ps. Demansoni thats the Latin name Well put Psuedotropheus in front same Brad
  18. I think it would depend on what ya after there David I know when im buying fish I dont want to buy the bigger ones all the time Plus if it is a true dwarf species I think it would have it owns name Plus I doubt it would show up in NZ first either Brad
  19. Did you start the syphon b4 turning it on Id say it just doesnt have enough water in it to work properly Brad
  20. I havent heard about them b4 either Sounds very dodgy especially if he cant or wont give a scientific name Brad
  21. Mitch I will make it easy for you They are a Zeb/Kenyi cross Thats exactly what you can call them nothing else Scientific names are for true species The male looks fine to me but the females do not Though if they all came from tank and same parents at the start then I wouldnt call the male true either Your best bet is to keep them and dont sell them If you want to bred Kenyi then get some stock that look true Brad
  22. I think it would depend on the actual filter but my guesses are around 1 - 2 hours for canisters so I would guess not much longer for hang ons Brad
  23. As I said above I doubt they have bred with the Yellows Its your females that look different as well If ll your Lombardoi looked true and u got dodgy fry then I might entertain the idea but seeing the females look dodgy and have the same problems as your fry then I will say your adults are crossed As Lomardoi and Zebs are fairly agrressive I wouldnt imagine a yellow getting involved especially when they are other females around Plus the fry are showing Zeb characteristics even more heading towards a zeb cross Brad
  24. I doubt its from crossbreeding with the Yellows are the females dont look right to me Id bet on they were crosses when you bought them and hence they were called Blue zebs not Lombardoi Brad
  25. The fry are not Lombardoi The Male does look fairlyu ok to me and probably a true Lombardoi but I dont think the females are I would guess one or both of the females are a Zeb/Lomb mix and hence the fry arent showing true Lombardoi features Pseudotropheus lombardoi and Metriaclima Lombardoi are the same fish just a new name Im 100% they are not true Lombardoi Brad
