LOL Thanx guys I know im dealing with NZ Ulun I cant get rid of frenchy so Im used to it now That avatar was removed by Warren I assume though I like it that much I decided to keep it lol Might need again anyways lol Brad
  2. No worries Glad to be back Brad
  3. I wouldnt leave the fish in there as when your disturbing all the gravel your releasing anerobic bacteria and this can be very bad fgor fish Though it depends on the fish but I wouldnt do it Use a large syphon hose and syphon the water and gravel out together You should be able to get most of the gravel without all the water Then add your new thoroughly washed gravel and let it sit for alittle while b4 adding your fish back in Brad

    Im Back

Hey everyone Just wanted to announce im back from my enforced holiday Hope some of you guys missed me though im sure some didnt Brad
  5. Looks great You might have to watch the Sterbais with the Discus they dont enjoy the higher temps at all also with the fancy plecs alot of bad for plants some are good but watch out for the ones who require high oxygen content as they wont like a still planted tank either Or Airate alot and lose CO2 Brad
  6. Though the problem with measuring filtration like this All canister quote flow rates without media and head height Brad
  7. Though the problem with measuring filtration like this All canister quote flow rates without media and head height Brad
  8. Have a look at the anal fin Males with have a long straight fin there as well Females will not Alittle salt Caryl These guys cam handle full salt water so I would be running a fair bit in there to keep them happy as said happily eat their own fry Brad
  9. Maybe it was from the plants dying and affecting the water quality I only have sand at the bottom of my planted display tank Ferts are a must for a heavily planted tank though Brad
  10. I dont see how a healthy planted tank can cause your water problems? What sort of readings did you have? Brad
  11. Natural sunlight and old light tubes are both great for Algae I have found once a globe reaches about 10 to 12 months algae generally grows very well Brad
  12. Your talking about the impellor Should be easy enough to get from your LFS If this isnt spinning properly it will be noisy and have a very reduced flow sometimes zero The FX5 is a great filter though alittle big for your tank What are the dimensions? Brad
  13. It is a very good possibilty its from Nitrates Check your water and let me know what the readings are I have tanks where they get a weekly water change and they still show high Nitrates Nitrate build ups arent always from lack of water changes Brad
  14. Well Im glad to hear your a honest breeder who will do the right thing if something goes wrong There are plenty that dont If i had to buy something this month at 2 and then next month at 4 I would keep the same retail price and make more when buying from the breeder then the importer Nothing worse then seeing prices change everytime you go into the shop I try and organise it with my local breeders to keep a constant supply so I dont have to go from one source to another but sometimes this is always possible Buying in quantity sometimes will work when buying from an wholesaler but they generally expect the quantity in the first place Some things yes and some things no Though when a breeder somes in and for example BN He comes in wanting $3 for 3cm If I wanted to buy 50 I would say ill offer you $2 Some people say yes and some haggle abit till we reach a price we both agree on Other ways to get a better price is trade for a larger item Sometimes you want that filter or food My credit price is alot higher then my cash price I find the breeders who try and make money from breeding fish are the ones who dont stick around long when the breeders who are prepared to virtually make no money but dont pay any money for the fish are the ones who will stick around the longest Also from my last post if there are 5 breeders all selling the same size fish the shop will always pit them against each other to get the lower price Brad
  15. What if somethin happens to those original 30 fish and 10 die like that Would you just replace them for him or will he have to wear the cost of it Here in Aus he would more then likely get a full replacement for them straight away from a wholesaler Not saying you wouldnt but I know of a few local breeders that dont care I myself wont buy from a local breeder who is going around selling the same fish top others cheaper then he does to me If im going to buy larger quantities I expect a better price which means a higher mark up LFS arent exactly a high money maker but they dont expect to aleast make a wage Alot of the price wars are happening cos there are a few people breeding the same fish Why would they pay $3 to if there is another breeder willing to sell at $2 As said before you have the choice of selling them If you dont like the price simply dont sell them Justin is one persion who doesnt like to sell 1 or 2 here knowing I will buy everything from him in one go Yeah he makes less per fish but he doesnt have to worry Brad Its as easy as that I have plenty of customers coming in trying to sell fish to me and some of the prices they expect to get for their fish is amazing The problem with not dealing with a shop is the amount of fish you will have each time ready for sale
  16. I have also noticed fish doin this alot when the Nitrates are getting higher Also noticed that it settles down after a water change Test your water when you see them doing it and see if that shows up anything Brad
  17. Eheims are virtually always silent Also they use virtually no power Whats the prices you have seen for these guys? Brad
  18. From what I have seen and sold I would reccomended the Pro III But the 3e isnt to bad at all Either way your going to get a high quality filter Brad
  19. Good luck with them as said before thats very small to be breeding or even colouring up Hopefully you will get some fry out of them Fish still look alot bigger then that judging on the heater in the background I understand the fish is closer Brad
  20. They are definatly not 3-4cm 3-4 inches maybe lol Still good luck with them Brad

    Fish Lists

Well the only safe thing is buy all from 1 lot from one import The importers could possibly get the variant names though that does depend on where they buy from You could always get the shop to ask the importer when they order them Brad
  22. Freakyfish

    Fish Lists

The problem with those names is that they dont tell you what they are still There are quite a few different Jacobfreibergi, Baenschi and Stuartgranti Also Electric blues arent a Peacock You need to have a Location Variant to keep your lines pure Brad
  23. Wouldnt the water be slightly different in reference to exactly where you are I know that people here on the Gold Coast using the same water supply dont have the same readings everywhere I found depending on the age of the house and where they lived affetced some of these readings Brad

    t. duboisi

The only true way is to vent sex them This is very difficult to do on tropheus especially at that size Brad
  25. Hey guys This is a pic of the sumps I use and sell The water is still a touch high in this atm as you ideally dont want your bioballs under water Quite simply the water comes in the right hand side down through a piece of perspex thats drilled to evenly distrubute the water Through some Dacron and then sponge through Bioballs I have gravel on the bottom of the sump for 2 reasons one there is always a build up of dirt and stuff there which is virtually impossible to clean and it will act a a bacteria bed hopefully with Anerobic bacteria Then through the S bend filled with Matrix and Purigen Inot the main chamber which houses my heater and UV and then pumped back into the tank Nice and simple for freshwater you dont need to go over the top anbd use up more space like you need with Salt Brad
