yeah sorry for that i confused justin with that one as well What i meant was that i raised the outlet pipe the canister itself didnt move the inlet pipe stayed in the same spot in the tank yeah shops / sales rep need repeat business to survive long term Brad
-
a good rep will tell you if he doesnt know well they do here I have a few reps who if i want to know the truth ill ask I also have a few where i know their answer is trying to sell me more of their products Quite simply if i think a rep is full of it i will simply stop listening to them and that makes it harder for that rep to sell me their goods cos their information is untrustworthy I work on the principle of trust once youve acted like you know when you dont the trust is gone Brad

Just one problem here is that a canister filter is filled media which acts like a baffle So if you would like to fill that hose with a sponge or filter media then try and blow through it you will notice it is harder also misnoma sorry i didnt read your post properly and yeah i see now you stated it correctly to fill the hose with water Also i ran another test here where i had a brand new canister filter which i set up to go straight up around 2.5 mtr now on the box it says the maximum height is 1.5 mtr This is a CF500 aqua one canister using 10.5 watts Now when it is running at about 1 mtr it morks fine when raised to 2.5 mtrs this canister completely stops as in no flow at all now this is 2.5 mtr from the canister and only about 1 mtr above the tank also another reply from Eheim states that the maximum height is measured from the impellor of the canister Brad

The water will not go up a hose to start the siphoning hence a canister will not fill it self up as you know it is looped over the tank edge I agree that once siphoning starts the canister will fill up but i disagree that a canister will pump 10 storeys up as claimed earlier I still stand by the comment that the maximum height is measured from the top of the canister to the top of the tank The pressure of the column above the pump will reduce the flow as the filter media will have enough friction to negate the the water pressure coming down the outlet This is as easy experiment grab any pump and a long hose and see how high it will still pump Brad
-
Ira if a canister is different from a sump pump then how does your diagrams show anything at all All your diagrams are not for a canister filters Although there arent exactly a sump either they are not a sealed unit and they are not a canister Also you make a valid point about Eheim but i dont think a major company would just let the base staff answer questions in writing as the chance of them being wrong would be to risky wouldnt that be like agreeing with a moderator of a forum just because he is Every single Rep for every single company i have talked to about canister filters has said the exact same thing yet you disagree with the actual manufacturers you would like to think the people who invented and made their money from them would know what they are talking about Brad
-
I thought I would go & ask eheim(the best reputation for making canister filters) I sent them an email asking that I have my canister filter on the floor directly under the tank, would I get an increased flow rate if I lifted the filter up, so to close the gap between canister filter & tank. To quote Frenchy, who am I to argue with them? Brad
-
If the canister only had to push the water back up to the tank then a large canister would run out of water Being a sealed unit it will suck the water down fast enough to keep up with the amount being pumped back in There fore the pump is sucking the water down not using gravity

Yeah Caper maybe alittle to far to travel to work everyday lol Justin your just lucky you dont work for me anymore lol Nah it is always a good idea to pick different peoples brains about fish cos everyones opinion is different and different things work for different people Just watch was Justin says he likes to think he is always right

Very important with Justins mix is NOT to use anymore then 10ml Spirulina Powder as it can cause some black spots to appear on the fish which generally go away when you stop feeding the spirulina powder Besides this it is a good cheap food Also make sure there are no lumps left in the gelatin Brad

Yeah these guys can be very aggresive Ive seen them latch onto the sides or larger fish and chew a hole into the side It seems once they have the taste for the mucus of the fish they tend to attack it alot more Brad
-
Hey guys ive found the more the merrier with the electris yellows A regular of mine has a colony of around 45 to 50 keeps him busy he also prefers to strip the females as this does help keep them in great condition Ive heard before that some people think that stripping them does affect the youngs ability to hold the eggs when they mature but as far as i know no studies have been done Try and keep a good ratio of males to females as the male will harass the holding girls and this can stress her out and force her to eat the eggs A water cycle should help them breed as i notice my colony are alot more active straight after water changes though im the same as Justin never heard of dropping water levels but if it works lol keep it going Brad
-
Yeah generally Nitrates arent that deadly for fish till they reach higher then what your seeing if you keep up with regular water changes you shouldnt really have to worry bout nitrates As justin said concentrate more on ammonia and nitrite as these 2 can kill your fish very very quickly when something goes wrong Here i use a product from Seachem called Purigen Just helps keep nitrates down and really polishes the water Brad
-
ohh yeah forgot my Fav fish I have a pair of red devils The male loves a good pat but not always has been known to make my hand bleed when he gets a good bite lol Yeah no worries Carol that would be good to meet you and anyone else whoever travels over here also saying hello to everyone and yes justin you have more pics of my fish then i do lol though i will try and get some good ones of my fronnies for everyone Brad
-
yeah i spose so lol i can understand that see sometimes we pay ridiculous prices compared to other countries Brad
-
Yeah no worries ill try and get some pics up soon Ummm never actually tried to freight fish overseas before so not really up to date with what im allowed to send over there I was looking at the price of zebra plecs over there god i wish i was there lol there are still over the 1000 here if you can find them starting an aquarium shop was alot harder then expected its one of those shops where you cant just get up and leave for a few days have to be there to check on everything but the up side is the variety of fish that are freely available to you and discounted prices lol Brad
-
Gee i wish i could sell Orandas in New Zealand Its always amazing to see the different prices for fish in different countries I know you guys have some of the fish i would love alot cheaper then i can arrange here in Australia Just a comparison on my latest price list Orange Orande at 15cm cost me $23 But i agree they are a beautiful fish Brad

Actually alan you did say it was fat free in this post If it had been posted saying that you could use Beef heart that was trimmed of fat then this would have been correct From owning aquarium shops i do notice that some people will take things literally so therefore it is quite possible that people will look for "fat free" beef heart when it doesnt exist Brad
-
Bk sorry i never said that what you do with your fish is wrong and i never said my views were the correct one and the only one All i pointed out what that you said about opinions and facts was incorrect You cant look at a beef heart that was trimmed of fat and say its fat free There will always be different opinions with fish as this will never change hence the fact people get different results on their fish Brad
-
Hey guys just a few things while i have been reading this post from alan I dont think i have ever seen fat free beefheart nor do i think i will from justin Here he makes a valid point which is supported my a few diff cichlid keepers who are very renowned for their views on cichlid keeping when justin quoted authors about his views on these foods he was showing you where he got his facts from if you want to dispute these guys findings i wish you luck Obviously bk you only read what you want you want to see Either way some people will alwasy have different results on different foods, I myself used to use bloodworms as a main part of my fishes diet but after reading alot of information decided to drop it down to only an occasional meal. I still get good growth rates and awesome colours from just varying the diet. Justin has a great deal of information regarding cichlids and i know of a few people that will take his word and love his help to anyone who wants to listen Brad
