  1. Yeah maybe then he is around 12 cm with a better look last night The guppies are big females probably 5 6 cm Though that photo does make them appear bigger Brad
  2. Yeah thats my fish He was completely normal coloured when I brought him home around 2 years and about 12 months starting to lose the black pigment Probably around 15cms I have been thinking of trying to get them breeding but will wait probably another couple of years before giving it a serious attempt Brad

    Metro & Prazi

Your Vet has no idea Metro is safe Flagyll is what its called when going to the dentist Or if you have gut problems the doc can prescribe it too Also it dissapates out of the water within 12-24 hours Plus its removed quicker if the tank is lit So Dark tanks treat to work better Brad
  4. Do yourself a favour and get rid of the bioballs they are not suited to a canister filter but they all supply the cos they are cheap Bioballs have small dead spots which creates areas for dead bacteria They are perfect to use in a wet dry area Replace with Matrix or something similiar Charcoal is great too as it removes alot from the water Though this removes good and bad but keeping getting it replaced often Id say the tank is never going through a cycle as your doing so many water changes Purigen is also something id reccomend instead of Charcoal for a long term use Its amazing for getting tanks crystal clean Brad
  5. Im not sure exactly what ur thinking but Salt isnt going to help with Nitrite Salt wont affect the Nitrite at all Its still going to kill your fish Brad
  6. I wouldnt feed blood worms to any African at all I wouldnt use Tubifex worms either but thats alittle different Keep up with decent foods and supliment with Brine and Mysis shrimp Brad
  7. U wont keep BGK and cherry shrimp together for long I breed heaps of cherry shrimp here but would have no chance with any BGK or any fish that like to eat other fish Brad
  8. It will defrost so quickly it wouldnt matter I put 6ltr of ice into my feeder shrimp tanks when I get them and they defrost in around 15 mins And thats salt water thats frozen
  9. I'll go for a type of peacock, or maybe a type of Copidachromis. Once my tank settles down I will take pics of my display. Not as nice as the some of the net. The one with the val is my fav.
  10. This product is amazing for Nitrate removal Ive use it on large display tanks that are stocked with fish over 2ft and I can keep the Nitrates to a manageable level But the water Clarity is where this product shows how good it really is Brad
  11. Water will drop in PH naturally in your fish tank Plus the bio load will help the process to happen quicker If your doing regular water changes then your Ph shouldnt drop unless your trying to PH isnt as important for some species though and a quick drop is alot worse then a slow drop Keeping some africans with a PH of 7 isnt such a good thing Most will survive but will do alot better when kept at a level closer to their natural habitat Brad
  12. They will take you forever and a day to get them upto size This will help keep your prices up too Good luck with breeding them though as they are such a kewl little fish Brad
  13. I reckon its so bad I would never own one nor will I sell one Its a fish that is going to have alot of problems and hardly ever look like that Id rather get myself a very nice normal Oscar and have it look amazing and happy without having to drag that tail through the tank Brad
  14. Definalty cichlid forum The members are from all over the world and the knowledge you get from these guys will astound you Especially if you have a fish that your not sure of Post it up there and you will find your answer Brad
  15. It will depend on the quality too on which one I would remove When the A fish is removed the B will become the A straight away Brad
  16. Purigen is without a doubt the best thing you could spend your money on with regards to your tanks It will make your tanks absolute crystal clear plus will keep your Nitrates at a level which is barely testable Plus its has a long life span I have been using it for over 5 years and havent looked back Some of the older stuff I am still using though I need to use more bleach then the recommended amount I use mine in either the sealed bag or in a Fluidised bed Filter on my 1800 litre tanks Make sure U use straight bleach and not one with a scent Brad
  17. White spot medication also help the fish push off the parasite and create more mucus coating This will help bring up your ammonia levels Plus the fact the bacteria is being killed off by the medication as well As your doing a few water changes I wouldnt be to worried and the PH being lower then neutral is helping with the toxicity Brad
  18. Doesnt matter where the fish are bought from If this seller is mislabeling fish then people everywhere need to know This seller has history on this forum for exactly the same thing plus this being a fish forum to talk about fish things means this is exactly where it should be posted Brad
  19. One thing we all have to remember Ryan is that noone is going to be right all the time I havent really come across many big breeders who knowingly breed hybrids But this one guy stands out to me cos he is the expert and wont take any advice from anyone Oh well hopefully some of the people will come across your posts here and realise what they have got isnt pure But then you have to convince why they are bad and to stop breeding them which in turn loses their money from the fish I long ago stopped worrying about the people talking behind my back I know there have been and more then likely still some around in this forum that dont like my straight up approach and probably wish I didnt post lol All you have to remember is your efforts this wek have improved the quality of cichlids in NZ and its great they are going to a safe home with Living Art They probably turn out nice and will look good in the display tank without the possibility of reaching the public Brad
  20. Ryan U have done exactly the right thing. You questioned the fish and sought out expert advice on the topic and had your fears proven true As well all know this is not the first time this breeder has come into some discussion regarding hybrid fish and the last time it didnt turn out well Noone want to hear the fish they have been caring for and breeding is a Hybrid Most of the time they have spent alot of money getting the new species and alot of hard work raising up the fry to get some of their money back According to this breeder the "experts" on cichlidforum dont know what they are talking about and his knowledge is greater then theirs The one main problem is going to be stopping this guy selling these fish under the wrong name. Does he still have any of the Kadango's with the Utaka spots? Well done Ryan and your effort in getting the right answers Brad
  21. OK then The water on the outside of the bag is so unlikely to cause you any further problems then the fish coming out of the water in the bag Your right with regards to the water in the bag I wouldnt put it in any of my tanks but I understand there is a small risk when placing the fish in as some water comes with the fish anyways The main thing now is quarantine and then it doesnt matter what you do as you can make sure everything is going well b4 adding it to your main tank. Brad
  22. Suphew I agree with you Though the topic was the about the water on the outside of the bag If your concerned about that water you shouldnt add the fish Anything in the water is on and in the fish Dont put the whole bag into your tank is a great idea and something everyone should try and do Plus how often do you get home and outside of the bag is still wet from the shop? Brad
  23. I agree with the statement vote with your wallet Alot of staff also get alot of customers in everyday that try and tell them everything thats wrong 90% the customer is wrong with their statement but not always In this case with the goldfish I can totally agree with the customer and the fish shouldnt have been sold Caper Are U serious? The few drops of water on the outside of the bag? That will be dry by the time U get it home. Do you get the fish out of the bag and pat it dry and make sure there isnt a single drop of water on that fish. What your asking is utter nonsense and makes no difference at the end of the day If by chance that few drops of water contained a disease or parasite its on that fish as well I agree do not place the water from INSIDE the bag into your tank I dont do it here when taking fish from home to the shop or vice versa Brad
  24. Was this the first time they had bred/ Alot of Oscars tend to pair up with 2 females so hopefully next time you will find out if the eggs last long enough Ive seen quite a few real pairs that still eat the eggs and some that are great parents Good luck Brad
  25. Umm Id say alot And its a problem I run into a few times a week when customers have not taken advice By all means give someone advice about it being no worries Are you going to replace the fish after they get eaten or just oops my bad Danios will be great as generally really good if you keep a nice size school Though not really big enough to be classed as a feature fish Brad
