Well done Ulun Its about time mate lol Brad
  3. I myself believe its remains in the tank always and takes something to get into plague proportions I have had a tank where I didnt add anything but water for months and then had it break out AsFrenchy has said id say it attacks the fish in parts where it can be seen easily and only a couple of the parasites keep going through its life cycle and the fish is strong enough to get through it by itself Then something happens and the fish loses alittle of its immune system and bang the parasite can take hold and mulitply very quickly causes it into plague proportions Brad
  4. Yeah a 34 mm hole uses 25mm plumbing Thats the only one I can remember But if you measure the hole b4 you go and tell them theywill know which parts to use Brad
  5. I have had the fish try and suck fry through some breeder nets I found the easiest way around that was a piece of slate or plastic on the bottom of the breeder net as this is where the majority of small fry stay on the bottom Brad
  6. Yeah but the tanks have been cycled and they are kept at a feeding level to keep the filters going to a determined amount they have just started from scratch and dump the crays in I had an ear out listening and asked about his practise to get told he knows what he is doin and then went on about the temp I wanted to know about the cycling process yet he couldnt tell me Brad
  7. Either way If he was correect in saying it was cycled (producing Nitrate) then he would have no problems at all answering the questions at the start As soon as someone starts to pick out parts of peoples posts and ignore the simple questions it starts to worry me Its a tactic lots of people have used in the past when they dont know what to say I have used these products and all I have found is they help start the colony though they dont just appear and work They have to have a food source to produce Nitrate You need the fish there to keep your cycle going Its quite simple if he cant handle someone asking questions about his fishkeeping then he shouldnt talk about it Brad
  8. By all means this is a subject where people boycott shops that continue to sell these fish Its something that should have been outlawed years ago Brad
  9. Absolutly disgusting IMO Very Cruel to do any animal http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ Brad
  10. Your right about Lava Chips I just wrote the wrong thing done These rocks still harbour bacteria You didnt go wrong by answering questions Thats what forums are for When I have asked how you have done it all i got was what you used That doesnt answer any questions Brad
  11. Can you tell me where someone posted about goldfish living in filth I noticed a comment from Ira but all that says is he liekes your tank though he doesnt like goldfish I have heard of a few quick cycle remedies but I havent found one that works for me Not saying yours doesnt work I havent tried it You say in an earlier post about not throwing old media into a new tank you consider this bad though you add Lava chips from an established tank? Just cos your fish arent showing ammonia burns inside a week doesnt mean there isnt ammonia there Its not that I refuse to believe you cycling that quick Its that I just dont From what I learnt from Very Experienced and well known fish keepers is that the bacteria needed to cycle your tank can only multiply so quickly Thats the process that you cant make go any faster All you can do is start with a larger amount of bacteria which is the reasoning behind adding a mature filter Brad
  12. Dont worry I can appreciate the fish are cared for properly without being shoved into a small bowl Im keen to find out how your cycling your tank that quick though Brad
  13. Well I fail to see how the tank was fully cycled in 4 hours How did you determine it was fully cycled? Also IME goldfish have done better in a colder enviroment then a warm tank Maybe your 2 goldies are happy in the warmer tank but as a whole goldfish will do better in cold water Brad
  14. Did you just set this tank up or is it just a swap straight over from your friends house?? Im alittle curious how you fully cycled it in 4 hours Brad
  15. Its scientific name is Synodontis nigriventris http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=334 very nice cattie Brad
  16. yeah exactly Only ever put it for as much water you have changed If this is the first time treat the whole tank I woulnt go as strong as Tble per 20 I generally use this amount for africans I would go for 1 tblespoon for 40 litres atm and when he is better go to Tblespoon per 60 litres Brad
  17. That wound should be able to heal up Just keep Salt in the water and Melafix and regular water changes and hopefully it will be ok Clove oil is the most Humane way to euthanise a fish I used to think Freezing them was but have found out the water in thebllod stream starts to freeze first b4 the fish loses conciousness Doesnt sound like a realygood way to die Also big hit on the head also works Brad
  18. I wouldnt leave cucumber or any Veges in there to long As Long as they are eating it quickly you should be fine Vegs will still go off underwater and quicker then usualy due to the warmer temp. Brad
  19. Another thing is make sure you dont spray anything near the airpump as this will blow the Toxins through the water Brad
  20. Sumps are alot better forfiltration simply cos of the extra media you can I use them on my shop tanks and display tanks The way I would run the media would be using Filter wool or Dacron first You want this to catch all the particles in the water so your Biological Filtration doesnt get dirty I then run a large sponge approx 50mm think to also stop particles getting through Then I run Ceramic noodles or Bioballs Ialso have a s bend in the bottom of the sump b4 it reaches the pump which I fill with Seachem Matrix If you dont have the S bend simply use some Matrix or mix it with the Bioballs IMO the Matrix has a larger surface area and a better surface for bacteria to grow on then Bioballs Brad
  21. Welcome to the forum hope you have heaps of fun here Lots of great people here what are your interests in fish? Brad
  22. Yeah they are different fish All the labiatum i have seen usually have big lips Though in Aus I have noticed we mainly have a cross between these 2 Most likely the same in NZ Was because they were originally imported as Red Devils and noone really take much notice to see they are different My big male at the shops looks like a Citrinellum but tends to throw some labiatum babies generally only a very small number Brad
  23. Yeah I love these guys as well They are extremly slow growers taking along time to reach much size They will be fine a 3ft for awhile so no worries there Brad
