Hi Guys, Thanks for the info, I have placed her in a breeding trap so that she can be on her own for awhile, and to give abit of a rest from the males that seem to be harrassing her, as I don't have another tank to put her into.I have also fed her some peas, which she seemed to eat quite happily. Everytime I go over to have a look at her, she gets up from lying on the bottom of the breeding tank and she swims over to see me, like there is nothing wrong with her. Really strange behaviour. Just hope she survives. Once again thanks for all the help. Lynda

HI Guys, I have a Platy that seems to be unwell, she seems to be in a state of exhaustion, she keeps on swimming head up tail down, and she is trying to swim but seems to be getting nowhere, any help would be great. Could this be from the males breeding with her that has lead to her exhaustion? Lynda

Hi Mitch, From what I have read, Goldfish a terribly messy, and I think you need more space for Goldfish than you do for Tropical Fish, I maybe wrong there, so wait and see what other people have to say. I have Tropicals and the selection is sooo much bigger than with Goldfish. I used to have Goldfish, but found they needed to be cleaned out more often then my Tropicals, which became abit of a nusiance. Good Luck with your decision. Lynda

I thought you are meant to feed fishies peas if they are Constipated, maybe give it a go. Lynda

Had a look at this Website, when I was Hactching BBS for my Angel Bubbies, excellent info, very helpful. Lynda

Hi Mitch, Welcome to FNZAS, you have come to the right palce to have all of your Fishy questions answered. Great to have you here. The symptoms that you are discribing are sounding very much llike dropsy, there is no known cure for dropsy, you would be better off putting your little fishy out of it's misery. If you think your fishy is constipated try feeding it/them shelled peas, i just poor boiling water over the peas and leave them for a few minutes then pop them out of there shells, then feed to the fishies. Sorry to hear that you have lost some little fishies. Did you cycle this tank before adding fish to it, this is a most important step in keeping fish. Good Luck Lynda

Sorry, to hear bout your little fishy, but as far as I know there's no known cure for Dropsy. I would remove it from your tank so it doesn't affect any of the other fishy you may have. Probably best to kill it and put it out of it's misery. Lynda

Sounds like it is maybe a Gourami, it's the only fishies I know of with antenna like things that you are talking about, hmmm not sure tho, maybe someone will post a pic for you to compare it with, or even better you could post a pic. Lynda

Hi Chakuna, Welcome to the FNZAS Forum, hope you have lot of fun here, and learn lots of things about fishies. Who knows you may be the youngest in the Forum. Nice chatting to you in the Chatroom this afternoon. Happy Fishing :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Lynda

Well I never knew you, great advice guys. I haven't used it for years, maybe for the better, I used to use it and just forget about it, hmmm, obviously not such a good thing to do. Hoping your fishies will be OK. Lynda

I use CO2 in my 4ft Comm Tank, The system I use is completely different to what everyone else seems to use, I use the SERA CO2 System, it is sooo easy to use, when you buy the setup pack this includes a diffuser made of special plastic which the CO2 slowly dissapates thru, all you have to do is add 1 tablet every 2 days for around a 200 ltr tank, I have a 330 ltr so I add a tablet just about everyday, the special diffuser has a stopper in the top of it which you take out to make sure all of the air is out of the diffuser, then you add a tablet, this tablet then fizzes up like a berroca tablet, as it fizzes the gas then pushes the water out of the diffuser and fills this space with CO2 gas, this gas is then slowly dispersed into the tank over the next 6-8 hrs, I have had great success with this system using it in conjuction with Seachem Flourish. May seem like a dumb question, but I'm wondering if this system would be as harsh on the enviroment as the CO2 systems that use the big gas bottles? Lynda

I think it just looses it's effectiveness, don't think it really has any detrimental effect on the fish, I could be wrong tho, so maybe wait and see what other threads are posted. Good Luck Lynda

Hmmm, reddish eggs, not sure if they are Angel Eggs, mine have always been sort of clear, any eggs that are white mean the they are infertile, just keep an eye on these as they sometimes turn fungussed, mum and dad will usually take care of them, by removing them but see how they go, the eggs will hatch in about 3 days this means that they are then at the wriggler stage, at about 5 days they will become free swimming, this is when they are swimming around the tank own their own. If they are in a Comm tank it is best to remove them as they will not survive if left in the Comm Tank. Whiteworms and BBS are what you feed fry on for a wee while untill they are big enough to start eating flake food, Whiteworms are cultured and BBS are from Brine Shrimp Eggs that you hatch by adding to water and waiting round 24-36 hrs for them to hatch, these are then fed to your fry. Good Luck with your spawn. Keep us posted Lynda

Think they get their Angel shape at around 1 month old, I looked back at a post that had some pics and worked out from the date of the pics about a month and you should be able to see the Angel shape appearing. Great pics Lisa Lynda

When is it safe for my baby platy to go into the tank?
LYNDYLOO replied to Kookie's topic in General Breeding
Hi Kookie, I too would say it's a little early to be putting him in the tank yet, don't want ya other fishies to be making a meal out of him, maybe look at your biggest fishies mouth, when you think your platy will be tooo big to fit in his mouth, then it's probably safe to put him in the same tank as ya other fishies. Good Luck Lynda -
Hi Lisa, Congrats Lisa Well Done :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: My Angels bubba's are doing fine, started off with probably a couple of hundred, down now to about 20-30 left. but apparently losses are normal, I too am feeding Microworms and BBS which the bubba's just love. I have spent a few days in hospital, had to go for an OP, so I did expect some losses while not able too be here to care for them properly. The Mum and Dad of the first lot of bubba's have spawned again, and they are free swimming as of today, they M&D and Bubba's are in my 4ft Comm Tank, so thinking maybe I should move second lot of bubba's in with the first lot of bubba's, not sure if this is a good idea or not, but I do know the bubba's wont have any chance of survival if I leave them where they are, M&D are frantically collecting up their babies as they swim around, and placing them back where they think they need too be. They are being wonderful parents again as they were with their first spawn. I have posted some pics if you would like to have a look Lisa, you may have to go back a few posts tho. Exciting stuff a? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Lynda

Looks like a Dalmation Molly to me. Lynda

Hi morgie, I'm sure I read a post somewhere that if they are bought up from bubbas in the same tank it should be fine, but maybe wait for some other posts to see what other fish people advise. Happy Fishing Lynda

Hi Headhunter, Really sorry to hear about your axolotl , really sad when we lose something that we care for so much. Do hope you will be ok. Lynda

What about Riccia or Duckweed, I think it's called, TradeMe usually has a good selection of plants for sale at goood prices. Good Luck Lynda

Casey are you from Levin or Palmerston? Think you mentioned before that you have bought fishies from Levin Petworld, Go and see Grant, he will sort you out something but as Alan says only use this at 1/2 the dosage for Loaches as they are very sensitive to meds. Good Luck Lynda

Oh Matt, thats terrible, but must admit I have had this happen before, gone to feed my fishies and found one all dried up in the floor. So you have Angel bubbas to then, I also have some at the moment, mine are about 1 1/2 weeks old, things are going really well with them at the moment, must have round a couple of hundred, so hoping to get a few out of this lot. Good Luck with your fry. Sorry for your loss. Lynda
