  1. maybe a red spotted pleco, when i had one it used to be black with white spots when it was sleeping then when it was feeding it would be pale with black splotches , pretty cool, otherwise it is prob a bristlenose but the dont have spots. the redspot's have a couple of bristles on their nose i think.... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  2. thanx for the sympathy, the ammonia is fine because i bought that when i bought the decor and the colour of the test is yellow which means 0 ammonia, it was the decor but i have a feeling that whatever was on the decor is now in my filter sponge cause that reaks of the smell too, i may have to replace that, boil the stones, but i have soaked the decor (which i bought from the LFS). can i you plz give me some feedback on what sort of medicine would be good for this type of bacteria? thanx again
  3. hey guys i was just wondering, this maybe a stupid question, but what if you brought 2 male fighters from birth, would they get along right through till they reach the adult period? thanx for feed back
  4. being honest i am absolutely destroyed and feel completely miserable, i have a very good feeling its the decor because the smell coming off it stinks and is the same smell my fish brought into another tank after i caonverted them when about 10 of my neons died overnight!! and i changed them to another tank then another 4 neons, 1 molly, my lovely fighter (favourite fish) and 1 platy died...i feel like an idiot for letting this happen but i couldnt do anything else, i only have 5 out of the 20 something fish i had left and even then they may still be infected, i am going to try and get some melifix but the store wasnt open sunday or today for long weekend. i am not shore what i should do with my filter if thats still got the parasite in it morgie .....
  5. its a guy, also there seems to be heaps of small snails about the tank lately, i am going to treat it but would that be the problem?, the tank is 2' x 1' x 1.5' measurements in ft... i have been putting in some ph up because the water is looking slightly acidic morgan
  6. hi guys first off i have had 1 pleco, 1 molly, 1 corydora!!, and 1 platy die in a week or so, i dont know whats going on, the ph is good and same with the ammonia. they are getting the right amount of food as far as i know but that maybe the problem. my platy looked sick when i got it, the molly i had for 5 days then its stomach caved in and looked starved, dunno what happened with my corydora but ive had him for almost a year and he was pretty hardy, my plecostomus got what looked like a bulgie stomach, maybe swim bladder or something. My fighter looks like its on its way out and it is really frustrating!! can any body help please? advice is greatly appreciated, morgie
  7. the neighbours pond has been recently cleaned and the fish have taken well to the water, we had our tap water tested a while ago and the guy said it was almost as pure as rain water, which is what they live in, you are right they do have cooler temps but are in the neighbours pond and act exactly the same... they slowly got used to the flakes (over a day  ) and are eating them now but i have blood worms which should be appropriate, ill put a pic on later but will have to catch them first. :bounce: :bounce: cheers for the head start
  8. well try to get a photo tommorrow but i definately know they are not nasties cause they were getting on awesome with the gold fish... the creek is part of our land and neighbours but i dont know how they got there, exactly like a brown trout but have faded lines instead of spots, hope this helps :bounce: :bounce:
  9. ok, i have just caught some really cool wild fish from a little creek not far from my home, cause we live on a hill, the water is quite cold but they got used to the neighbours pond quite quick and made friends with the gold fish  i guy is selling me a 3ftr for $50 with undergravel filter and air pump!! :bounce: :bounce: i was wondering how i would set it up for native fish?? is it ok?? thanx,
  10. thanx, yeah i do have plastic plants and maybe thats why my fighter kept on chasing down my biggest mollie all the fekn (father Ted quote) time. oh well got him in his own tank now and he is loving it his fins are growing back and he swims in and out of his little ornament... best liking it in his own company, which is wierd cause you always think they will get lonely but not this one.. he loves it cheers, thanx for the help :bounce: :bounce:
  11. sorry, no , its a red spotted pleco, i have a feeling it was the stress of all the fish coming in at once, invading his "territory", but thats just my opinion, other suggestions would be appreciated too and about the melafix thanx thanx for the reply penejane
  12. sorry meant the growing rate of the fighters tail not the fighter
  13. hey, just a question , does melafix increase the growing back rate of the fighter aswell as treating deseases? cause ive got a fighter too and he keeps getting finrot cause i change tanks but when i changed him a week ago to my tank with a recently bought Eheim 2210 his tail started growing back. Then i bought bout 17 fish (3 mollies, 1 pleco, 5 glow lights, 5 neons and 3 black tetras). the fighters fins went split and i know it wasnt the neons cause they split not just rot. hes in a tank on his own now to see if his fins will grow back to the original size. so can anybody help?
  14. wow!! well im keeping the 3 ive got cause i want the experience of bringing them up and thanx for the info :bounce: :bounce:
  15. thanks aqua that was good advice but when u said a few every week did u mean that or is it more like heaps and heaps cheers
