  1. well I was in the NZKA for what I thought was a year from payment to find out it was less than 6 months. So I guess I will have to buy one as I am no longer with the NZKA
  2. All good with me. Just wondering who gets the year books or are they to be purchased and if so how much? Cheers. Would be nice to have something with my name in it for a change haha PeneJane (my name and nick) Cheers :bounce:
  3. I did the egg yolk for my first lot. As long as you keep a very close eye on the water and fry you should be ok. Once they are about a week or so older you could try microworms. I gave mine microworms from the word go and they seem to be doing just fine and this is my 3rd spawning Congratulation and good luck. :bounce:
  4. Depends on the meds. I know that malachite green should never be used in a tank that houses catfish as it will kill them. Even at half dose as I found out the hard way and lost 8 baby bns ( they weren't quite babies as they were 3+cms) but it killed them. Don't know about the white spot treatment as I have never used it and never read the bottle. Hope it comes right.
  5. I have found for a general rule of thumb compatibility guide line I use this site http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibil ... Search.asp You just enter the fish (if they have it on the list) and it will bring up a list of fish that they are able to be housed with. Hope this helps Cheers :bounce:
  6. I would love to have some cons to breed myself but they are not available down here. I think its a good starter fish for thoes who want to learn about breeding and caring for fry. I would gladly take them off people who didn't want them or wanted tank space back and I am fully prepared to take the risk and pay for shipping. Cheers
  7. it could be Thread Algae: Greene algae Problem: Long thing green threads hanging on leaves and decorations Possible cause: Insufficient nutrient competition by aquatic plants Immediate measure: In early stages, Platies and Black Mollies will eat them. Paraguay Darter Tetras (apareiodon affinis) eat many kinds of algae (don't know if these fish are available in NZ) Remove algae threads with a net or roll them up with a round brush. (old tooth brush will do). Preventive and long-term measures: Enhance plant growth In case of high pH and KH values use peat in the filter circuit. I hope that this helps. Its the only thing that I can think of that would look "cobweb" like. Cheers :bounce:
  8. Well with my experiences of dropsy (a big thing in half black guppies) I have found that there isn't any cure and just a lot of wasted money. Basicly it is like a cancer. The disease is not spreadable unless the fish dies in the tank and the others eat off it. You have no idea if the fish has it untill it develops (just like cancer). Yes I know that cancer is treatable (most cases) but I am using this as an example. Knocking the fish off is the best option at any signs of dropsy as its also a very painful disease for the fish. Sorry to hear that you have to deal with such a horrid disease.
  9. Whats wrong with Sony? We were looking into the Sony H2 but now the H5 is out. Our other choice was the Olympus SP500-UZ. Only real differences are that the olympus doesn't have image stabalizing which can be corrected by using a tripod and the sony has more internal memory. Best advise would be to look at all your options and stick to a price range and read plenty of reviews. :bounce:
  10. All good Jacko just though I would offer my service. I know that big tanks can cost a lot of money and that there are a lot of choices in brands and designs available. I am sure in the end you will find something just right for you and the fish you choose to keep in it. Good luck :bounce:
  11. I can get you the Rio 400 Aquarium in black or beech Dimentions are: 151cm x 51cm x 62cm I am unsure as to how many ltrs that would hold but there are plenty of sites about that will tell you if you enter these dimentions. Tank only I can do it for $1,800 + p&p Stand included for $2,350 + p&p I know its a lot of money but these are good tanks. I have yet to get the completed catalogues for them but I hope to recieve them soon. Then I can offer you more information about it. PM me if interested. I have many other tank sizes available also but that seems to be the biggest that I can tell so far. Cheers :bounce:
  12. sorry to burst ya bubble but I have heaps of these. They are just a normal guppy. Nothing flash if thats what you were expecting. Orange is a very dominant colour which is why I removed it from my breeding tank. That colour variant is probably one of the easiest to get with out going through the hassles of a complete breeding setup just to achive one colour strain. :bounce:
  13. I get the Budget brand energy saver (14w and 18w) from Pack N Save for about $5.45 each. I have had one on my 22 ltr tank for the past year and its the one that grows plants the best. I know I should of replaced it by now but its only really there to light the tank. All I can say is give it a go. Its not much money lost if it doesn't work as you said they are soo much cheaper. Plus with any plants. Any light will do and just suppliment feed with fertalisers. :bounce:
  14. I was wondering what is the best way to sex young bettas. So far pretty much all of mine look as if they are females  I have them seperated in 500ml containers so they can still see each other (well their neighbours anyway) and none of them are growing large tails or anal fins. Some of them are still small but the 3 large ones are all females. The way I have found this out is that I remove the container and hold it in the tank with my breeding female and with in a couple of mins the younge one darkens up and shows vertical stripes like any normal breeding female would. Is this the best way or am I better off holding the container in with the male instead of female? Would all young ones regardless of sex show the vertical stripes or only females? These ones hatched late march so in the next month I am hoping to have some ready for sale but would like to be able to sex them first. Cheers PeneJane
  15. Look at the picture closely people The fish may have two heads but only one body which suggest that it will only have one lot of sexual organs so it will be either M or F not both. Sorry to burst anyones bubbles lol :bounce:
  16. any chance that the blue rams spawned? their bubbas are supposed to be pretty small and they normaly spawn down on the gravel to. Just a suggestion though. Hope you find out what it is soon. :bounce:
  17. Awesome link there! I have saved it to favs hehe I am now going to look at getting me a bottle of bleach and giving this process a go Will let you know once I get the eggs
  18. I have thought about it and wouldn't mind giving them a try but I just don't have the $$$ to buy them right now lol All my spare cash is going into my new tanks I to would be interested to find out what other people think of them. Cheers
  19. I have a sunken ship that has two pieces of wood on it for the sails. I noticed when this was added to the tank that in about a months time there was this white stuff on it. Once I got a BN I noticed it all disapeared and hasn't come back. :bounce:
  20. I would love to of given it a go and even started to design my own flyers for it but reason for why I didn't go a head with it is because I have a young family which does take up most of my time in the evenings and wouldn't allow for me to take on the role of organiser and what not. But I am seriously interested if one was to be started. I need an excuse to get out of the house hehehe
  21. lol Yes shane it was a very long time ago. I say a good 6-7 yrs ago. Can't wait till we are up in hamilton in Feb/March next year. I am hoping to catch up and see your tanks. Hope to see the rest of the pics soon Caryl. Maybe one of these years I might be able to make it up to one Looks like everyone had a lot of fun.
  22. MY GOODNESS SHANE!!! You have changed since I last saw you and the good old RC Car days. As everyone else says. Nice to put faces to names. Hope everyone had a good time.
  23. awesome. Thanks very much everyone for the wonderful information. LOL Going to be needing to MAJOR rearranging of some tanks and go and pick up the other 3 that I got someone holding for me. Cheers again :bounce:
  24. so if I was to get the biggest ones in the tank possible then my chances of spawning them sooner would be better? Can anyone give me any size indication as to spawning stage? Like body size? Like would 5-7cms from nose to tail base be of good size? Cheers
  25. ok but what size do the angels need to be for me to breed from them? Just so when I get my angels I can work out how long its going to be before I can expect to see any eggs. Cheers
