  1. Ok they never had the brand that was mentioned earlier but I went for the one that had no cloride (sp) in it. I will type up what is on the bottles of water that I got. Its the Signature Range Spring Water. MG/Litre Magnesium 1.42 Calcium 2.31 Potassium 3.9 Sodium 8.9 I went for the bottle that had the less amount of anything. I got 2 4ltr bottles. I soo hope that this water will be fine. Looks like I am losing about 500mls of water every 3 days.
  2. If I could would it be wise to set up a drum somewhere about the place to collect rain water? Or is this way not worth it? I also take it that way would mean that the water is stagnent and won't be any good after a day or so?
  3. Awesome. We only have countdown down here so I will check there tomorrow
  4. ok I have noticed that the water level is getting a little low now I know that you can't add more salt water and supposed to use fresh water but I don't have a RO unit and was wondering if there is any brand of bottled water that I could get from the supermarket to use for topping up? I don't think that East Rd sells RO water by the ltr so was wondering what other options I have. Cheers :bounce:
  5. Well as you know (from recent thread) I just started my first tropical marine 7g nano so that pic is going to be pretty empty. Also is a FTS of my cold water marine which I want to get some hermit crabs and more anemones. Enjoy :bounce:

    New Salties

Well I can say that I am new but I don't have a reef as such (not the size you guys own anyway) but I am very pleased with my 7g nano and can't wait to get some other things in there. :bounce:
  7. good luck evil bud and hope all goes well for you. Its amazing. I can't keep my nose off the glass hehe. Keep checking to see if anything else has poped up out of the rocks. I will see if I can get my friends camera and take some macros of this little critter so it can get ID'd and sorted for friend or foe. Looking forward to pics of yours evil when it gets started.
  8. LOL skippy the nano is way big enough for now (*note the "for now" part*) as we are in the process of buying our first home. I still have another 2 tanks sitting empty and once we are moved in and settled I want to get my big 6ft planted freshwater display sorted. Looking forward to it big time. Had another look earlier and the dust has settled down heaps and is looking good and clear. Noticed some wee tenticle things sticking out of a piece of rock so I am going to have to wait and see what that is lol
  9. Thanks to the wonderful help of njd I now have myself a 7 gallon nano tank. Running a Aqua One 300ltr/hr HOB filter and a Jebo clip on 13w PC fluro which will be updated to two 18w energy saver bulbs. Nothing flash as of yet. Looking at painting the back black at some stage but for now I will go with black paper (not in pic yet). Going to see how it goes. Cheers
  10. lol well you gotta start somewhere
  11. Would they go in a nano? hehe as I am in the process of getting my 7g setup shortly. Cheers

    wow

Can plecos (sailfin is what I have) go with normal bristlenoses and corys? Sorry dont' mean to hijack. Awesome tank and WOW I think I might have to save the picture and zoom in for a better count hehehe. There are heaps in there :bounce:
  13. Cheers. Got a reply from Rcon but need to hold off a bit for them to grow to a safe size for shipping this far. Mitch if you are still interested let me know and we can go half in shipping cost. Cheers
  14. I am also after some that is if they are the GBA's. Since we are both in invercargill maybe we could go halves in shipping and get some down? Anyone keen to ship us some? Cheers
  15. LOL fair enough. Its a HOB filter. Aquaclear brand and 50 for the size and stuff I think. Here is a link to them all http://www.elmersaquarium.com/h112aquaclears.htm The aquaclear 50 -- Full Flow Control: 66 U.S. Gal. (250 l) per hour Would that be to much for the 27ltrs? or would I be better with the Aquaclear 20? -- Full Flow Control: 33 U.S. Gal. (124 l) per hour Cheers. Hope that helps to clear things up Wasp :bounce:
  16. Awesome. Thanks for that Wasp Was talking to a friend and watching another website and for most of the 5.5-6gallon nanos they use the Aquaclear 50. Would that be ok for the 7gallon? Cheers.
  17. Ok I am looking for HOB filters and was kinda lost. I know that you need more water turned over per hour compared to freshwater so was wondering for 27 ltrs what size filter would I be looking at? How much water do I need to turn per hr? I know that with any filter you remove the media but some have said to add coral rubble in to a HOB filter to help. Is this suitable for 27ltrs? Cheers
  18. Awesome so its settled. I can use that light on the 7g tank and don't have to worry about the false wall. Would it be wise to put a protector over the heater? I don't want to rely on rock to hide everything and I will opt for a HOB filter as I don't want to drill the tank. Hoping to get this started over the next few months Cheers
  19. Would these also be ok in low light. Everything that I have found about them say that they are fine for low light and a range of current. Star Polyps Green Star Polyps Daisy Polyps So I could have mushrooms and some of these polyps then? Cheers :bounce:
  20. because I thought that would create dead spots. Expecially around the heater. Ok for 7gallons of water how much light do I need? Some are saying the Jebo 13w light will be fine for the low light corals. Others are saying I need more. I am not looking at going full hog like you guys do. I just want something that will work fine in what I have available. I have been told that some mushrooms and a couple of others will be fine under this low light. Cheers.
  21. oh :-? I was told in the other thread that that would be fine for the 7gallon setup. I was only looking at easy care things that can handle the low light. What about two of them? That would make it 26watts for 7 gallons. Also note (don't know if it makes any difference or not) but there will be a false wall put in which will reduce the depth by about 3 inches or so to hide the powerheads behind as well as the heater. So that is going from 24.5cms deep to 17cms deep. The height is only 28cms and with a 3cm drop from the top and about the same in sand it will then only become 22cms in height available.
  22. I was wondering if its possible to ship corals? Reason I ask is that the salt tank at the only pet store down here has mainly fake coral and the stuff that is alive doesn't live for long so its a lost cause buying from there. The tank is 7gallon tank with a 13watt Jebo clip on light. So I am interested in things that would work well under this light setup. Also what price range would I be looking at for the coral itself and shipping. Cheers. *please note* this should probably be in the trade and exchange section but the main question is can they be shipped.
  23. Well as mentioned before this tank is 27ltrs. Its got curved corners on the front glass. I was thinking of putting in a piece of thick black plastic (normal glass thickness) with some slots taken out of it at one end to hide the heater and HOB filter intake (if possible) from main view of the tank. Would this be ok? Or am I better to just leave it as open as possible? For a living things I was thinking of just a shrimp and maybe one small goby if they are available down here. But if I can't get one then I will jsut stick to a small shrimp. Another question...... If I was to go down at low tide after a hot day when the rock pools are pretty warm and get an anemone or two would it survive? I thought if I was to get it when the water is close to the same temp as the tank then it wouldnt' be so much of a shock for it. Just an idea hehe. Cheers.
  24. ok the tank is 40cm long x 24.5cm deep x 28cm high. By the time I have about 1 inch of sand that will be 2.5cms off the height and not everyone fulls the tank right to the rim so it will be another 1-1.5inch from the top also. If I can get away with just the one then bonus With using a HOB filter what filtration would be best? Like how many times do I need to turn the volume of the water over per hour. When the time is suitable would I be able to have any shrimps in there and maybe 1 fish? How much rock would I be looking at? Cheers
  25. Ok old thread I know but still comming back to the thought of starting my own salt tank. In regards to a pico tank what size (gallon wise) would be suitable for 13 watts (unfortunatly still only 6400K) of light. I have one of thoes Jebo clip on lights but it only has the daylight bulb. I was thinking of putting this on to my 27ltr (7.2gal) tank and turning that into a salt tank with a HOB filter big enough to provide suitable filtration/water movement as well as house some extra coral rock and a heater. Or would this size require two lights of this wattage? Cheers
