Sandra may have some at the Living Waters. Don't know if they have moved yet. Have they?? Alan 104
  3. Hi GH, I have read where a very fine syringe is used carefully behind a scale and drawing off excess liquid. Haven't tried it myself, but just letting you know what ideas there are around. Alan 104 EDIT PS: at anyrate, the fish should be isolated from other tank mates, as if it dies, or explodes, it then can pass it on apparently to the other inhabitants. Al
  4. I would say it is a water problem if you haven't set it up carefully. Good luck with them tho. Alan 104

DB, any chance of posting a pic of the hoplos on here?? Just show their bellies if you do. They are simple to sex. Alan 104
  6. Thunder, hope you weren't asking me!! I have only just figured out how to turn my puta on, having a bit of trouble turning it off, but guess with practise I'll hopefully get it. Alan 104
  7. SilverBlade86, read all the posts below that pic and you'll see that she, , Keri Anne misnamed it. The one in the centre is an indian fern. The java fern is front left by the look of it. Alan 104
  8. Tsamina I think the list I put up was everything you need for the job. It's just asembling them in the correct order. Alan 104
  9. That's ok here Luke. New for old. But don't know if the fish would be covered tho. Alan 104
  10. Yipee, someone does read what I post. Just wondered. Sorry about that, the 16 is correct, the 64 is also correct, just that there is 4 rows of tanks. The heater pads are DIY ones using softboard, electical wire,(I use salvaged electric blanket wire), thermostat, some jointers, or if you know a sparkie that can weld the wires and shrinkwrap it, vinyl for covering the lot, a staplegun with stapes, and there you have it. As this is dealing with 240 volts, it is imperative that you know what you are doing on the electrical side, or have a friend that does. Caryl I think, has an article on these boards, as Grant has made them. Alan 104
  11. Undertank heating is ideal for this type of setup. It is used on the NZKA show stand, heating three rows of 16 tanks. Total, 64 tanks. Alan 104
  12. Welcome kaz101, I use to like the seahorses too, but got mine from the wild. Lot cheaper. Mine did produce ponies, but as they circulated past Dad, he was recycling them. Saved me the problem of finding the necessaries for them. SHM is very clued up on the subject and I think you may have missed her last line in her reply. To do this, go to your profile and fill in your location, I see you are dealing At J's in Mt Eden, so I take it that you are an Auk, but just put your area in Auk so as anyone that wants to help can then form an informed decision depending on where you are. Thanks Alan 104
  13. B&K, thought for a while there you meant a turkey baster. MMMMM, Alan 104
  14. Get in touch with ROB from Waikato Aquarium Society. He will give you a fair indication of the Baensch Aquarium Atlas Dr. Axelrod's Atlas has lotsa photos but little information. Alan 104

  19. You got it Kerri Anne Alan 104
  20. Yes, definately breed them. They now change from what Kyle reports to Aquarium strain. They are still A. bitaeniatum I did not know who the supplier to Matt was, and when asked, I had not had a reply from him when I read that it was, according to Matt, what appeared to be another strain of A. bitaeneatum. Good luck with any that you may get LL from up north too. By the way, these too are still only Aquarium Strain and used to be called A. bivattatum. But in NZ at the moment though, there is a line of A. bitaeneatum Lagos Alan 104
  21. That was an excellent result Sha. Good to see you guys are sussing out the Breeding Award so well, especially with having two co-ordinators, one in each catchment area, kewl. By the way, tell your fish to hold of having babies, as you have to be a member of an affiliated club before they will qualify. Those of you that belong to a club, eg, NZKA, already qualify for breeding award benefits. Alan 104

    Hi From Tauranga!

Good to see another Bay of Plenty fishy aboard. Did you get to the meeting today organised for the locals?? Alan 104
  23. Welcome aboard to the Forum. Glad the meeting went well. How about giving us a run down on what happened?? Alan 104
  24. According to the seller he said they were They look like Ijebu Ode I haven't seen them before in NZ. I'm glad the fish were withheld, due to the point I have already stated, they now don't have to go through the trauma of traveling and water changing and risking death unnecessarily. So goodluck to the seller and goodluck for the breeding of them. Alan 104
  25. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/breedi ... 11323.html Most of what you want is in here Alan. Mine start earning their keep about an inch (25mm) long Depends on what set up you use Alan. If you are using a mop setup then they are together all the time as intermittant spawning goes all the time. The way kyle does it is on a weekly basis. maybe has them together for a week two weeks hols then back again But the peat system can produce really lots tho. Good luck Alan 104
