  4. Hi guys, welcome to the site, hope you enjoy, learn and participate. Pity you didn't join up a fortnight ago and you'd have been able to go to the Waikato BBQ. Never mind. There's a good club over there, find ROB and ask him about it. Nothing like having live backup Alan 104
  5. Only one thing you have to watch Maf don't like you getting whitebait out of season So make sure if you are, you can ID them and DON'T call them whitebait. Kids love this sort of thing I've been out with school classes doing this It opens up a whole new world to them All those different things they can find Then they do the research to find out what they actually are kewl, go for it. Been out electric-stun fishing too. Legally. alan 104
  6. Why don't you do the family thing, grab a net, plastic bags, buckets and away you go. Catch ya own, it doesn't cost ya anything and ya have fun doing it. Tank bracing

D3, bracing are the bits of glass glued to the top edges, either inside the tank or on the top of the edges. It is used to stop the flexing of the glass when the aquarium is filled with water, and comes in handy to support the lid of the tank. In your situation, I'd use a piece each end 150mm wide. Alan 104

    white tail

I do not know what your problem is BK But I am glad to see that you have a bare bottom tank But, IMHO, you have it for the wrong reason. You should not be using it just as a growing on tank. But for a quarantine tank Then if anything goes wrong, you can do you medication in the bare tank before adding the fish to your main tank that hasexpensive fish in it. The Quarantine Tank should have the same water parameters as the main tank too. Alan 104 Hope I didn't offend you BK, I was just trying to be humourous with the way I wrote my first reply. I have now done an edit on it, so that it reads PC Al
  13. T & V, it will be 12 days before your babies are free swimming. About half of that is in the incubating egg. Do NOT attempt to feed them till they are FREE swimming, not the little jumps that they do. Mum and Dad are okay with their babies, and defend really staunchly. Alan 104
  14. Can you put a pic of them up Billaney?? Alan 104

  16. If the body shape chages from the line from the gills to the anal fin to a blunt right angle, then you are in business, well, they are. Check the fish nearest the cam in the OK...you're all gonna get sick of my pictures LOL....See the change of that line? Now compare it with the coloured platy in the bottom third pic in that sequence Got it? Hope you've plenty of nappies. Well okay, top cover then or java moss Alan 104

    air pumps

You would both only need the one pump. These are real air movers. I run all of my outside tanks, 4 rooms, with one. Cost? start saving, they aren't cheap. You can get them from your LFS. Get a price and let me know, I may be able to wangle something for either or both of you. I bought mine second hand, and can't remember what I paid, sorry. Alan 104
  22. What do you call babies?? If they can't fit in the gunthers mouth yep. They would have to be up in size a bit. But we as killi-keepers prefer to keep our fish in species tanks. From my experiance, I can not say from what I have personally done for this reason. But I think they would be okers Where did you score the N. guntheri from? Are they the "gold" version? Or a are they the normals, natural colored ones? Alan 104
  23. Those Vieja Synspilum will grow pretty big. Some shops call them strawberry heads. Now you can see the benifit of using their "proper name" We can easy suss it out then. By the way, it's, A - L - A - N Alan 104
