    Hi Everyone

If you had a zebra plec... you would know by now (because half the FNZAS would be hassling you lol) nahh.. zebras look like this and are rather (read stupidly!) expensive Very very cool though Anyways, welcome
  3. Put the water source above the tank
  4. pffft *splutter* *cough* there was a royal pleco at hollywoods albany the other weekend for about $100 I think.. that was pretty cool. otherwise possibly find yourself a Whiptail catfish? (If you don't think they are ugly lol)
  5. well I would have hoped so cool looking fish thou
  6. Doesn't mean it's good advice Maxy: dead fish would almost def be the cause of the spike, poss do a 10% water only change, just to dilute the ammonia some if the fish look uncomfortable, otherwise just keep a close eye on the readings and be ready to waterchange more often if needed as things balance back out again.
  7. Actually she has an alien growing inside her yeah.. that or fry
  8. I found that a 20L bucket, and crazy metal wok-scoop from the asian supermarket did it damm well
  9. If there's ammonia present in the tank they'll be short of oxygen
  10. So, whilst I was at work today... a certain naughty pair of b/n decided to have some fun it seems... So.. question, only other fish in this tank are two tetras, and an angel who's body size is about 7cm diameter.. should I be rehousing the angel somewhere (i.e. will he go after the baby b/n?) also.. if these things hatch, what do I feed em?
  11. play more barry white, and light some candles

    B/N get stuck?

Happy they were both out and playing in the new tank this evening, even with the lights on
  13. I have no proof, but I'll agree on anecdotal evidence... my first tank took nearly 2 months to properly cycle... I was well new to things and kept adding such things to try and control ammonia, when really slowing down and doing more regular water changes to control it would have been better (in hindsight )
  14. Do you have another tank in the house that's cycled? If so, steal some media out of the filter (if it's external, or able to be done), stick it in a stocking and pop it in the 2ft tank (even better in it's filter), nothing like kickstarting the bacteria colony with real live bacteria. If you have a nitrite test kit test the water - are you getting high levels of nitrites as well? Also, I would be doing the water changes every 2 days or so, possibly more than 25%, but not disturbing the gravel when doing them, important thing right now is to get the ammonia level down or the fish will keep dying whilst you wait for the bacteria levels to grow and deal with it naturally. So long as you don't disturb the gravel/decorations you shouldn't effect the bacteria colonies in the tank, but you can dilute the ammonia content a heap and make the fish more comfortable.

*sigh*... they are sent to test me The tail you can see in the bottom of the log is the male, he's been there for ages.. however it seems the female has taken a liking to the top!

    B/N get stuck?

Hrm.. well he's still in there, has been over a week now, and he just got to ride in his driftwood from the old tank to the new 430L tank... when I picked up the driftwood carefully before moving it he was nearly half out of the hole (I could see his widest part easily) and he didn't seem stuck, in fact he was still moving, so carefully moved the driftwood to the new tank. Hopefully one of these days he'll sort himself out hehe
  17. I agree with snowman on the heater size thing. I bought a 300W heater in the weekend, was $2 more than a 200W.... easy choice really
  18. I paid $160 for mine, 10m glass from greg (same size)
  19. I find that the $3 bottles of water ager work just fine to remove chlorine from Auckland water - last for ages too. I used to use more expensive "brand name" stuff but found the cheap stuff doesn't seem to kill the fish That's the one thing I add in terms of that, once a tank is cycled
  20. Hmm.. it should just fit snugly on top I guess, maybe with a recessed bit that sits inside the walls of the tank or something?
  21. Can you take a pic of it?
  22. Have a look at Hollywoods Mt Roskill, they have a few (I remember seeing an albino, and others, can't remember the names though)
