  1. I agree, they look like normal neons to me
  2. Thought I would post these up, the girlfriend spent a heap of time yesterday playing aquascaping games in my 4x2x2 tank, and this was the result. Interesting thing with the tank is it sits out in the room, so you can see it from both sides, and from the end if you're looking from the kitchen, so the challenge was to make it look good from pretty much everywhere. I'm still working on cunning ways to make the hoses etc disappear more (they're pretty blatant at the moment which I don't like) but I think she did a fantastic job with the plants themselves and it'll look really good once some of them grow some more. The tank from the end (2x2) The tank from one side (4x2) The tank from the other side (4x2)

Yup, just test before the waterchange, not after

Ammonia should be 0, and a fully cycled tank will keep it there without much effort (I check my tanks every 3-4 months for a laugh and they're always 0) I would do a waterchange, perhaps 10%, don't disturb the gravel (take water from the top of the tank), purely to dilute the ammonia some more till the filter can catch up with the bioload.

No, the fish just get grumpy when they get big
  6. cool cheers edit: found a 20L tank on trademe, it's mine I'm taking it a small air-driven corner filter will be fine for this?
  7. bookshelf isn't that big    might get a couple of 20ishL tanks instead of one 50, that way I can seperate species and stuff - given I'm only dealing with small numbers would that work okay?
  8. Awesome.. yeah, it's purely for that use... so that will be goodness Just planning a small heater and corner sponge (or small internal) filter for it.
  9. Ah cool, I was wondering if it was a spare for something shall put it somewhere safe.
  10. So... given I have killie fry right now, what would be a good size tank to hurl them in? I'm thinking somewhere around 40-50L ?
  11. I have one of those rubber bungy things too... so I'm also interested to know what it's for

    Breeding Frenzy

Worst case email em to me Eon and I can sort it out for ya
  13. Yay.. my Notho Guentheri Gold are hatching
  14. I harvested mine about half an hour ago, the inverted coke bottle is definitely the good way to go I now have fry swimming around with nice fat red bellies
  15. I just hurled a heap in a bag making sure they were all nice and wet, sealed the bag with tape and hurled in a courier bag, apparently they arrived just fine the next day.
  16. I'm with Bill.. my new tanks take ~2-3 days to cycle
  17. I only use the stick on ones on my cichlid tank, they'll break anything else
  18. As I said, I was in a hurry after work and I have killie fry that I'm currently feeding with bbs that I'm hatching in a non-bottle way (read : utterly crap yields but enough to keep em alive). So I took a drive, and got a stand pre-made, I definitely would recommend DIY however Joys of working >40 hour weeks and looking after fish. Any hints on how to keep coke bottle warm without putting it in a tank?
  19. Yup, basically just a stand for a coke bottle upside down, and some air tubing
  20. heh, I just got home from Hollywood with a "hatching kit" which is basically an overpriced stand for a 1.5L coke bottle and some airhose. (however I needed something in a hurry, so was happy to pay) add water, salt, baking soda (I believe from another thread on here), air pump and keep it warm, and 24 hours later things should be all shrimpy
  21. My female's never looked like that, even when she is full of eggs
  22. I have a R2-150, petplanet can get em
  23. my planted tank hit 32 celcius with my mum/dad b/n in it just after setting it up. They didn't seem to mind too much, in fact two days later I had eggs lol
  24. Reporting back after a week as promised: well... I definitely have less snails in the tank, and I can't spot any clutches of snail eggs like I used to be able to. This is with 3x1" clown loaches and 2x1" skunk loaches So yes, I'm definitely happy, there are still a few snails around, but their numbers aren't increasing which is the main thing.
  25. Sweet, feeding on And for your time, here's a pic of the newly hatched bubba
