  1. I get 432 Litres - (60cmx60cmx120cm assuming 10mm glass) but I could be wrong
  2. no no - keep the landscaping advice coming I'm always prepared to try new things, so ideas are always good!
  3. Okay.. I finally got around to taking a semi-decent pic of the 5' cichlid tank. it'll be here as soon as someone nice approves it (naked fish aren't porn are they? ) I'd love comments.. and ideas on how to make it better Current Inhabitants: Red Tiger Oscar (bitey) Redhead Cichlid Network Sydontis Catfish (general sherman) Golden Chinese Algae Eater (lazy ) Two Striped Convicts Four Jewels (tks Graeme!) I'm not planning to add any other fish to this tank.. it's possibly a little overstocked, but all the fish get on quite well, and the slight crowding (it's 5', so there's plenty of room really) seems to keep things more peaceful than when I had less in there. Obviously with oscar and redhead growth at some point I'll have to do something, but we'll deal with that when the time comes.
  4. I get it in the cichlid tank a little bit, however I find with more regular water changes it doesn't build up so often.. My golden Algae eaters get it these days and keep the suction cups all clean and shiny
  5. ammonia test the water... sometime about yesterday.. or take some to the fish store and have em test it before adding more fish. Sorry to hear about your b/n.. losing fish is always crap
  6. Do you share your sources?
  7. It's harder work setting up the new tank because you couldn't wait and so got a new tank for the other fish you want grrr @ MTS I say
  8. Not my auction.. but topical I guess http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-indus ... 457638.htm
  9. 5 ft high!!!! does that include the stand?
  10. One of my golden chinese algae eaters has some damage to his dorsal fin.. it's been red for the last day or so, and today I've noticed some of the fin itself is missing Hopefully the image is clear enough to see. Any thoughts etc would be much appreciated..
  11. Wok.. the pond will probably end up with ice on it
  12. I have a network syno in my Cichlid tank.. he does just fine.. just make sure there are catfish-sized caves around the place.

The million dollar question I've searched the net, and there are various theories, but no-one seems to be able to agree on how to do it
  14. Hey.. welcome Gobble them up fish are fun.. it's just all about finding balance.. I liken it to the bronx
  15. Just out of interest.. how do you keep a quarantine/hospital tank cycled? Given that 90% of the time there are no fish in there... the bacteria would die off no?
  16. Cheers Alan... yes, everything will be cut dead straight and level and yes.. the beer will be saved till it's all up and we've had at least 8 burly guys jumping on it as a test
  17. Okay.. so I have this 4x2x2ft tank arriving next week.. so this weekend is the time where friends get together, purchase some additional powertools for the collection, and generally build stuff (there will probably be some grunting and beer drinking as well ) using a link I found on another post in this forum I came up with this as a design.. just thought I would run it past the locals here to make sure it seems all right etc. It'll be skinned with plywood (thanks Ira ), and i'll have cupboards etc in the front. EDIT: okay, the slide and frypan aren't real
  18. If I was going to put discus in this tank (just an idea at the mo).. are there other fish I can put in with them?
  19. heh.. the girlfriend keeps seeing puffers at the LFS and begging me to get one
  20. I must be crazy.. I placed an order for a 4x2x2ft tank last night, which I'll be getting just after the weekend. Now I'm blaming MysticVampire for making me do this, just because it's the thing to do  Thoughts at this stage are to have it planted, with suitable non-plant-munching fish to go with it - bit of a change from the 5ft tank full of insane cichlids So. suggestions would be most welcome - help me fill my tank with fishies
  21. just out of interest. what's the price on a 6.5kg bottle/filling etc?
  22. There's video footage on the net of Pirahnas taking on a rat.. that will put you off your dinner in a hurry... you have been warned... don't watch this if nature(sic) makes you squeamish http://madsteez.nzdance.net/vids/rat.wmv
  23. I found my convict pair calmed down pretty much as soon as I removed the fry from the tank.. depends on the size of the tank I guess as to whether other fish can feel secure cruising without being abused
  24. Jewels seem to survive just fine with my convicts... oscars certainly aren't troubled by them - although if the oscars are medium sized they may get annoyed at the harrassment the breeding con's dish out and decide to retaliate (been there, done that )
