  1. www.parallelimported.co.nz would be a place to start. No chance on a DSLR, however you can get some reasonable point/shoot cameras at the $500 mark. www.dpreview.com is the place to find out what's out there, and how good/bad it is
  2. Countdown/Foodtown sell stuff called "Pure Dew" from memory (if it's on the shelves  ) which used to work well for me for topup.
  3. Don't put the copper coins in your tank, k?
  4. My vote is for the second one
  5. You two should become politicians, or lawyers, or something. This is just silly
  6. or dip the flake in a bowl of water, then tip the lot into the tank
  7. Clowns do that.. .they tend to host in anything - powerheads, skimmer intakes, xenia, leathers, etc...
  8. What does sand do? Looks nice Do you need it? Probably not Do you want it? Up to you or.. you can go and read about DSB's, and make your choice about them as well. If it's just a thin layer on the bottom however, it won't act as one anyway.
  9. This thread is going places  My deltec was noisy, however the silencing bits that i got sent for it sorted that pretty much. I haven't tried a red sea, so can't speak for it however.
  10. Good point, I stand corrected
  11. Yeah, popping is bad Getting them off isn't too hard however
  12. 11 hours, 11am-10pm (I like seeing my fish at night )

  14. I'm stunned this has made it to page 8 without anyone throwing their toys too far  It's been a great read too

    new tank

I have the 150 version, it's a nice tank. For marine however I ditched the filter and lighthood - so it's not the greatest value. (I used it for freshwater first)
  16. Spoken like a true plumbing fan I run a 400L tank with no sump, I think wasp runs a similar size.. we both run a Deltec MCE600 hang on back skimmer with good results. Anything much smaller tank-size-wise however I would go with the sump recommendation.
  17. Just out of interest, I have been experimenting with Pure Dew on my tank for topoff as opposed to tap water. - I worked out given I'm thinking of going overseas next year that it was cheaper to buy water than a RODI unit Anyway... It tests zero for phosphates (salifert) and I've noticed a huge decrease in diatom algae and other things since using it - have used it for about 1.5 months now and intend to continue.
  18. I finally re-found mine (they blew off a rock too), hiding under a rock archway! Have re-attached them to a rock, and they've opened again, so hopefully they do okay.
  19. You're close... They're actually both mechanical and biological filters Mechanical = takes visible stuff out of water Biological = "cycles" ammonia out of water, turning it into nitrite/nitrate. The corner filters filled with filter wool still work as a biological filter. And yes, you can put noodles in it if you wish, it just won't be a very good mechanical filter then (which may not be an issue given your goal).
  20. I have a Sony F828 as well... I like it however I'm leaning more towards a SLR due to the fact that manual focus on a LCD is not exactly 100%. That's a very small moan however for most people
  21. Interesting... I have had to unplug/replug my streams after the last two power outages, or they just restart running on min - the controller gets all confused about things.
  22. Was only 3 hours at home (CBD), fish etc were fine according to the girl.
