  1. The only thing I know about Neon tetras is that Cardinal tetras are better than them. They're bigger and more colourful, mine even look purple sometimes in the right light/angle. Just a personal preference though
  2. Fighters do love heat and both he and the neons should be fine at that temp. Name wise I've got no idea, I always just wait till a name comes to me when I'm naming my fish.
  3. I had a similar problem with my second hand Eheim Professional II 2328, the intake tubing had tons of black algae (I think) that was making the tube a lot thinner than it was. I had a problem priming it before that but when I cleaned out the tube using a pipe cleaner it primed no problem.
  4. Just reading a book on fishes (by Alexrod), listen to this: "It has been observed through experimentation that in clariids and anabantids, even in well aerated water, the gills may not provide enough oxygen to satisfy the requirements of the system, and death may ensue a short a time as half an hour if the fishes are prevented from going to the surface to take gulps of fresh air and expel vivated air" Interesting, eh?
  5. Nice pics AJ. Someone's just going to have to set up two tanks with parts of the same coral in it, dose one regularly and only dose the other once. See what happens in a few months, that'd really proove it.

  7. If you get some I recommend using Copper Sulfate to take care of the White Spot, it works quickly and it's a lot less stressful on the animals.
  8. He is a labyrinth fish though and you can't really judge much by their breathing.
  9. Try filling up the filter with water manually first. I did this with both of my external Eheims and haven't had any problems starting them before.
  10. Hah! So I was right. At least it's possible I was. Saved again by the possibile existence of slow-metabolismed bacterium.

    Jewel Fry

I have a spare filter that would be suited to a tank of that size (Aquaclear 500, has substrate(rocky stuff) and sponge but no carbon (that'd cost less than $10 I'd say though) and I might have a heater that would suit as well (I'll have to check the wattage on my spares), I'll give you both for $50. I've seen the filter for sale for over $100 in places.
  12. I'd personally recommend a drill. Heheh just kidding. Seriously though, Chimera just finished drilling some holes in his tank I believe: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewto ... &start=330
  13. Point taken - Twas just a theory I had.
  14. I know nothing about Marine tanks or any of this stuff but as AJL says, what if the bacteria added immediately eats all of the stuff that it eats effectively starving itself? Sort of like Ebola (except that's a virus) It's food would then build up again and then you'd add some more bacteria and it would it the food and then starve again. Perhaps it's just too effective at removing whatever it removes. I could be totally wrong here, just an idea I got.
  15. Welcome to the site! If you post some pictures of your unknown bottom dwellers I'm sure someone here will know what they are.

    MEDICATION

It really depends on the illness. I've found Copper Sulfate in conjunction with salt to be quite effective in eliminating white spot.
  17. Or a good case of it, Jude Welcome to the forums though Snowman.
  18. My god, that's one huge tank.
  19. I have two 15000k's and one 10000k and for a while I had a problem with green hair algae too. Once I started using Flourish Excel it all just died off - really great stuff.
  20. Does anyone know if the South Auckland Fish Club is still going? I've tried emailing the address on the fnzas site but it doesn't work.
  21. I had the exact same thing happen to me as well
  22. If you saw native fish for sale they would probably just be removed from nature anyways though.
  23. Welcome to the site! No doubt it will be very helpful to you in all your fishy ventures.
  24. So that's what the 'Eheim vaseline' that came with my filters is for I never knew.
  25. I've never used any other type of canister filter but my two Eheims that I have are great, never had any problems with them.
