  1. But then there's always the matter of Tannins.
  2. ah right, you could try using a plastic lining inside a drawer or a hole in the back yard lol
  3. The tank does, yes, and they're in the tank right now. They were in ice cream containers before though, as I said.
  4. You could use your inside bath, just take out the wood when you want to use it (That's what I did )
  5. Yes Melafix doesn't kill Ich, I've got some white spot cure but I'm hesitant to give it to them because I read that they were allergic to it. I've got them in floating breeding traps now because one more decided to jump out as well (still alive though) :-?
  6. I just found one of them on the floor in front of the dehumidafier, I've put it back in the water and it's swimming around, my god I'm really surprised it's alive because it wasn't slippery at all when I picked it up.
  7. On my tank the spray bar was already above the waterline so noone heard it and caught on good to hear I'm not the only one who's made this mistake though.
  8. As if nothing more could go wrong this week, my four clown loaches have developed white spot. I've seperated them into different black ice cream containers and I've added a small amount of melafix to these. They're being fed a small amount of bloodworms every half an hour, is there anything more I can do? -Hoping there is, Eric
  9. It's a Nutrafin co2 thing, but it still uses yeast and whatnot.
  10. Yeah they were up, but I changed the images to a different host (they were loading slow) so it has to wait to be approved again : /
  11. I removed my co2 canister this morning because it wasn't producing anything anymore, but I didn't have time to fill it up so I left for work. I just called home to check how the fish were doing and when my mom went to check she found that the water had worked itself up through the tubing and leaked about 1/3 of the tank out onto the floor (I'm just thankful that it's small tubing). Hopefully the desk won't disintegrate too (it's just particleboard). I'm anticipating going home and having my head immediately chopped off

Don't use spraypaint to paint the polystyrene though, it will melt :-?
  13. I've got the exact same filter Robin, so if you've got any more questions just let me know
  14. see http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewto ... 5787#55787 and http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewto ... 5797#55797 Comments here 8)
  15. Hey Emma welcome to the forum, I hope you'll find it really useful, I have. I've got five white Axolotls, what colours are yours? Have you been to the caudata.org forums?
  16. You can buy oxygen tabs from pet stores for like $4, you can cut those up and make them last a while.
  17. I personally prefer live plants. They look better (unless you get really expensive fake ones), they also put oxygen into the water and assist with filtration.
  18. I've only heard of one guy who bred Arowanas, and it took him 15 years. I've seen one Arowana in an NZ petshop, Jansens in botany, it was $3000 I think.
  19. Put it in a chilly bin (or just using the bucket would work too, I've done it both ways), shove a hose in the gravel and turn it on. Move the hose around to stir things up. Once the container fills up, tip the water out (and not the gravel). Repeat until the water doesn't get cloudy when you fill it up anymore. This worked for me anyways
  20. A lot of bacteria live on the gravel so yes, it would affect them. You can buy a product called 'Cycle' that contains high concentrations of good bacteria with which you can 'seed' your new gravel.
  21. That sucks what sort of loach was it?
  22. I'd say it was probably the one on Botany road, based on the fact that he's in Howick.
  23. I was looking at some of Takashi Amano's tank with this stuff in it, it looks really good, I've decided to get some.
  24. Well Plantman obviously does (that's his auction). I thought it looked pretty neat too, but I thought $20 was a little much : /
