  1. Yeap it appears as though he moved a few in the night...just three or four though : /

    New Oscar

I traded my other cichlids (4 convicts, 4 jewels) for this big guy on Sunday. I've named him Agamemnon, he's about 25cm long. He's in a 4 foot tank with two plecos and another tiny oscar that I bought for him (as a companion, not as dinner hopefully) whom I've named Menelaus.
  3. I agree with Luke, I always vacuum when I do water changes. As for frequency, every two weeks should be alright but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do it every week if you have the time spare.
  4. Hahah well I actually am from Canada originally. Sarnia, Ontario - I moved here when I was 5 though so it's probably a diferent Eric
  5. I've kept goldfish at tropical temperatures before, they do fine. 72 degrees is at the lower end of the tropical spectrum too so Sam should be perfectly happy
  6. Yeap I saw your other post Caper. Be sure to post some pics of your tank sometime
  7. Yeap you're doing it right. Feel free to ask away.
  8. The same things you feed most fish: flake food, blood worms, mosquito larvae, ox heart, etc
  9. I was eating when I opened this thread, lol. No idea what the mites are though.
  10. The phos-zorb bags are too small to fit in my filter (Eheim 2213 I believe), there're gaps at the side
  11. It depends on how flashy your guppies are. I had a beautiful male guppy with a huge tail that one of my males ripped to shreds (just the tail, not the whole guppy) but he generally leaves everyone else alone (there are plenty of other male guppies in the same tank that are fine).
  12. I know, I read the post. IMO the Angels would be fine, they get along fine with all the fish in my tank and they don't scare any away or anything.
  13. You could try a sponge filter or just a small hang on filter. Males don't generally need to be kept alone (I keep mine with females) but you should give the females some hiding places in case he isn't feeling sociable.
  14. I have almost the exact same fish in one of my tanks, I don't have a problem with the Angels at all.
  15. Looks like a Golden Zebra to me.
  16. Most cardinals are wild caught, yeah. Go to goldfish pagoda, they're $6 each. You can get 10 for $60 then I've got 15 in my tank currently, working on getting more (next pay day, lol)
  17. Any extra guppy fry I have go to my cichlids. My angels seem to relish them - a taste they picked up from their previous owner no doubt.
  18. If you do water changes twice every day, as you say, she should be fine. If you wanted to make less effort you could put her jar underneath the output of the filter (provided it isn't too strong) and have it going in her jar and then overflowing into the tank, so she effectively shares the same water as the rest of the tank. Let us know how it goes! My males are totally slack with building bubble nests, even though they have one or more females with them. Maybe it's because they're both in community tank type setups and not 'private' ones.
  19. I've always found regular guppies to be very hardy with temperature changes, plus they make great live food for my cichlids.
  20. Could have just damaged it on something or it could have been bitten. What's it kept with? I had mine with Axolotls and they started getting a lot of red marks like that. Then I realised the Axolotls were trying to eat them.
  21. The only other product I treat my water with is Aqua plus.
  22. I believe the correct term is 'chest burster'
