  1. I love flowerhorns, and they are the biggest mutts of all. At least red dev/midas resemble close to the actual species lol FH are completely a different species now.... got nothing against hybrids - red tail cat and tiger shovernose hybrid... Awesome. Freshwater ray hybrids... Awesome the problem in nz is that when we get a nmew type of fish - breedable fish. Everyone rushes to breed them, putting lfs out of commission due to cheap trademe prices. thats what is harmful for the hobby. cos then, there is not much incentive in bringing in fish from overseas that isnt here already.
  2. yeah, funny cos out of batches of koi - they sell 'rejects' as feeders and nice ones as expensive over priced pest fish lol they look very nice though. the colours are spectacular! SPECTACULAR!
  3. because it is a selectively bred gold. you can cross a gold female twih the red male. then cross the most red female back to the male. then so on and so on, see what you can come up with. need tank numbers though. the more tanks you got, the faster the project can progress.
  4. cactus do well with meaty foods or high protein pellets. mine is almost full grown in just 2 years
  5. nice oscar. i really want an oscar that is predominantly white with very little red. dont know where to get them!
  6. david beat me to it get 100 to 200 micron. i tried 50 it was crazy easily blocked:D good clarity though lol you can reuse them for ages. awesome stuff. make sure you let particle solutionz know that its for aquariums so they give you the FOOD SAFE socks! whhopppp!!!
  7. haha i have seen worse with mosnter fish in asia!
  8. awesome tanks! you got a lot of feeder fish... just kidding! :slfg: :digH: nice tank:D
  9. thanks david for seconding my excitement :slfg: i would breed it with a gold just because you might as well.
  10. shame, this red fraser has is SPECTACULAR i mean, it is extremely red, borderline not even spots but almost solid lines that its so red. shame - if there was a fem there somewhere, breeding them in high scale would be awesome.... i would love 1 or 2!
  11. its a lucky dip, some of them turned out nicely, i got a few a fea years back. some of them turned out to look very much like rotkeils, but some didnt.
  12. nice hybrids. i am looking at making a as pure as possible thai silk... due to my tank limitations i think this is easiest fo rme. but would love a festae FH or a parrot fh cross.
  13. where were you gonna buy it from? website?
  14. thast too fine. i have used this before, i use it right now, dvid has too... i think the guy was just saying that its not the intended use. i remember i washed with boiling water. this is the same stuff they have had in the past that i have used...
  15. fx5 only has polishing pads... too fine. they are just polyester wool but to round shapes, i need the very coarse foam
  16. http://www.dunlopfoam.co.nz/Foam/Foam-Products/QuickDryFoam/ confused. i remember i bought these awhile ago, but i dont exactly remember if it was this. but para rubber only stocks these coarse foam.... they dont get any other type of foam. according to the guy, the factory told him not to use this form. I do not know why... but i want coarse foam for my fx5... any idea what foam or where i can get coarse foam? Think the type of foam around the fx5 on the outer rim of the baskets.... that type but i want sheets of it to cut in circles.... now im getting paranoid, why the guy advised me not to use this foam....
  17. haha yeah sure when i my friend comes back with his camera but been holding out on it to show more dramatic changes in colour. otherwise its hard to gauge colour development. maybe in another month or so:D
  18. nitrifying bacteria (consuming amonia and nitrite) is same in both slt or fresh water or even soil in farm lands. there is also a bacteria that consumts NITRATE but that is a more anaerobic form of bacteria and needs special cultivation in the aquarium. These are found in coral live rock i believe in salt water set ups (some set ups) in the less oxygen rich areas. in terms of blackwater, low ph inhibit bacterial growth. watch out, there is a fine balance
  19. You may get lucky and ge tan FH that has suitable genes perhaps fro what i gather, FH are a realy slurry of genes from different fish. some so far apart that they cannot breed as pure specimens, but in fh form, they can... dont know if this is true!!! Fh seems to be surrounded by mystery
  20. how about if you cross it with a flower horn? FH are very robust
  21. no, its not that its 'broke' i am increasing mechanical capacity i am moving bio media to the sump which can probably process sewage. then ill add a mech before wool. so wool doesnt clog as fast and in total the filter can contain more mech debris. noodles were designed to not only be bio but also to be mech, but wondering ow effective vs foam.
  22. you shouldnt hvae to fully clean your tank like that. maybe get a small bristlenose to clean the wood. gravel vac instead.
  23. how do i put in a divider, i assume cut glass same width of the inside of the tank.... maybe just a couple mm shorter and then just slide it in and put suction cups to hold it in? any feedback?
