  1. exciting i was actually looking into this type of build - not 20k litres though because the heating bill for that is HUGE! and maintenance. many overseas use under tile heating, but from what i gather, especially wtih a huge tank like that, make sure the room is insulated. Also, maybe incorporate a simple solar heating method with black hoses, you can get this unit for swimming pools. Heating wtih underfloor heating may be difficult, it will require many KW to heat it. A friend of mine is a heating/cooling engineer and she said for that volume, good idea to go Gas/water heat exchanger. very efficient and cheap to run - if you have gas in your house already, thats even easier! FIltration would be easy, you can build in a sump on sides as you said as for glass in front, if you use glass, it has to be exceptionally thick, that CAN distory color and image and a green haze but it doesnt scratch, acrylic in the other hand, i have heard panaques and plecos scratching acrylic - but lighter and better visibility. To be honest, for that type of set up, i would post on MFK because overseas, that type of set up is actually extremely common while in NZ its not and our experiences here is not as much. as for stocking, come on! you hvae to have monsters in there!! :bounce: a huge tank like that, yo have to have the pacu, aros, giant gourami and anything else that gets huge lol my next build is a 4000 litre aro comm, not enough large fish in nz to have a truly monster tank IMO! david and i have this discussion frequently lol
  2. i soak it in a bucket outside, if in the sun, the heat should help draw it out. but i soak untill i find the water doesnt get as dark anymore! some wood tannins are fine but if your wood is an oily resin type wood, you are best to soak it for a while untill the water doesnt smell like wood anymore i found, that i soak it untill it sinks, then i bake it in the sun, and re soak it, that does the trick. i find manuka the best, sinks fast, and becomes 'tank ready' very rapidly
  3. I dont see a problem with this as many feed their clown loaches veges anyhow, but just wondering, any issues feeding clown loaches novo pleco tabs - not as a staple i have just ordered 3kgs of novo pleco tabs to ensure my plecos get the most suited food and i dont believe this will be an issue with the clown loaches but feedback would be great!
  4. love it! look how much food is in its belly:D
  5. I would buy one or two of the weberi, but i am not a breeder. if someone wants a breeding colony i would suggest they go for it. othrewise, i would want it for my pleco comm tank:D if you sell separately, i may be persuaded to IMPULSE buy better do it soon, as i can feel more impulse buys on the way and can only do so many :slfg:
  6. cool. that cool etc etc, so just look for those TRUS work endings? lol
  7. in the lfs saw some king tigers, patter seemed like they wre 'stressed' you know how some fish change patters. if i put the king tigers in a black dark substrate, woudl their patter be more defined? or is it some have good patterns, some are not as nice? or is it pretty similar i mean, all zebra plecos patters are pretty much the same. cactus, salfin etc
  8. it would be awesome to get one that big! hilarious!
  9. this one for me http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?q=adonis+pleco&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1366&bih=599&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnsfd&tbnid=buu3fcoxkm-AyM:&imgrefurl=http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D5%26t%3D29984&docid=op8WCWMRhtVQUM&imgurl=http://cab65.unblog.fr/files/2009/01/adonis6000gr1.jpg&w=627&h=418&ei=zcxGT6u5DcmriAf5s-2VDg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=243&sig=111242009554193102343&page=1&tbnh=123&tbnw=210&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0&tx=132&ty=77

If the flow is fine, i would leave it. if ther eis no rock stuck or anything, then the impeller will in time give in, it wont explode and ruin everything, it will just start to slow. impeller are about $100 dololars each, but lasts a long time, the only time i replaced was when i dropped, now when i clean the impeller, ONLY ON GRASS lol so if it drops, no problems! good ol' natural cushion. wheni clean the canister, i get a high pressure hose and shoot directly into the tube that points up, this flushes bits out. i dont ever really take apart the pump unit.
  15. how babout your royals? trout pellets?
  16. Algae wafers also have fish meal in it too though... im sure as a general wafer its fine right?
  17. Yeah, im actually switching my plecos to a sinking wafer (vege content) and algae wafer diet. CLown loaches all benefit from it algae wafer is prescribed for all plecos. THe meat eaters get their share of meat but also fibre. my last royal too had that problem, staple of sinking cichlid gold, but switching to algae wafers will do the trick i believe. i am turning ALL my bottom feeders to algae wafers and that alone. Very occasional meat pellets. that should solve the issue. king tigers are carinivores - should benefit from algae wafers too. royals and panaques should do well on algae wafers too.... cactus certainly aint complaining lol loves it! i gather, algae wafers are designed for plecos and panaques.... has very high vegetable protein and fibre. no more 'mass massivore' clown loach frenzy unfortunatley:D
  18. cactus is the biggest of the lot, prob 25 cms, quite big, and its an absolute pig! the other plecs will chew and scrap wafers, this guy just breaks them up and swallows chunks! most active is the snowball and blue phantom, then sunshine, then cactus. but they are all active, hoping royal will join the party soon... maybe i should buy myselr a dull eye too:D add to the festivities lol davids just got one, he is gonna grow it out untill he cant stand the immense amount of sawdust, then ill get to buy it off him:D eventually i want all the species in my monster comm tank. still wanting a magnum scarlet king tiger medusa starlight BN 2 green phantoms 1 to 2 more blue phantoms and what ever else comes in thats a good size my eventual tank, i want it to be so extremely busy at the bottom when its feeding time, and so many plecs sucking on wafers :dunno: obsessed what can i say -
  19. dont really mind what type it is, just like them:D but of course, i am one that wants to collect different types, collecting the 'whole set' so to speak i have this immense temptation to get another cactus lol but trying hard to stop myself!
  20. it will mean you have a very constant water temp! go ahead
