  1. Welcome aboard DKC. Does your hardscape consist of a shanty ghost town and stirrups? The wild west is cool. I want a cowboy hat where should I get one from?
  2. Wow looking great mate :bounce:
  3. Probably be sweet to breed them genetics wise unless you mean the orangey-brown one is a pigeon blood?
  4. Well done Nicolette. I agree with Afrikan. Congrats. It's fun breeding glowlights :bounce:

  6. Hi Andrew congrats. What kind of discus are they? The other fish will eat the fry if not the eggs.

    The Gold Nugget

Update: he's getting quite big now
  11. Hmm that's pretty weird. The only thing I can think of is that when they have a big batch of babies they should dedicate themselves to that bunch. E.g my alphamale pair (avatar) recently had about 30 fry eating off their sides but they decided it wasn't enough, ate them, then laid again. Are yours feeding off the sides of the parents? A 29gal breeding tank where they have no distrations is the best. The best idea is to cover the sides with white paper e.g computer paper. This helps the wrigglers find the parents easier when they go free-swimming.
  12. Cardinals, Glowlight tetras, Black neons...they're all good and can tolerate the higher temps like discus. Cardinals are usually the best due to their striking colours and they move slowly like discus and eat food in the mid-region of the tank. I've got a golden nugget in with my show discus tank and he looks amazing against the discus colours. As I turn around I see him out now hehe. Include some driftwood if you can. This is more common in their natural habitat, they like to hang out in the roots of fallen trees. There is the odd plant. The water is a cross between blackwater and clearwater. The key is to keep the water conditions steady. Hope this helps
  13. The male jumped ship cuz he thought the female wasn't protective enough of their fry... haha jokes Mmmm now MTS really kicks in. I've got 11 tanks operating in my room, 5 are dedicated to discus, 2 are breeding pair tanks... Goodluck. You really do need a seperate tank to breed them in
  14. Sounds great jolliolli, any pics of your discus?

    Discus size

I saw some in Auckland a long time ago for $25 ea at that size. They looked all from the same spawn so looked good. Get them to feed them if you can and see how they act. That gives you a good indicator of their health. If they're smaller hopefully they haven't had a chance to get stunted yet either so that can be a good thing
  16. I've found them to be fin nippy and get annoying. They are one of the aggressive tetras. That's just my experience, I think others have found them okay.

    Discus size

Well there's every chance but just not as much of a chance than if you bought them bigger. If you get them that small it's best to get a bunch from a breeder then you know if they've treated them for flukes and things like that. What sort of price did they want?
  18. Beautiful vibrant colours Candy I like your tank too it looks nice Welcome to the good side

    Stupid power cut

I'd say we had about 20 000 calls into our contact centre today, we were forecast to receive 5000 but by 9:45am we were only 9 calls away from that! Must say most people have been great to deal and with and very understanding given the conditions. I did hear of someone else who had fish without power. Sorry to hear you lost that fish ilah that sucks man.
  20. Yeah nitrate (the end result of the nitrogen cycle) is believed to be growth inhibiting and the best way to get rid of it is via water changes. Most fish like some fresh air just like us but us discus nuts just seem to give them a bit more attention
  21. Hey Matt.....you could use the smaller tank but it is on the small side at 22.5 gallons. A good recommended breeding pair tank is 29 gallons. Your bigger tank is 69 gallons which may be a bit too big. Great as a grow out but only if you can change enough water as evil said.
  22. I've got about 10 empty bottles of the stuff in my draw from when it took me ages to get rid of it in my 300L tank. Turning up the temp does help. They could make their product stronger.
  23. Beautiful Chin... love your spotted discus! What the strains called?
