    Showoff

    shot cuz keep it up
  2. lol thanks guys I wanted to blow it up and see what it looked like there's probably only 20 fry tops but I'm stoked they have finally been successful finding the parents. Looks more like a guppy fry than a discus at that age huh? *Runs off to start some brine shrimp*
  3. Yeah we didn't actually produce a programme. But a few people did ask so maybe the next club could consider this for the next one
  4. Hehe yeah indeed. Thanks for the comments guys. I used a few tricks this time that worked to get them to find the parents. Happy to share if anyone is interested. Yeah Red Melon and Pigeon I think. Here's the last shot from day 4: (spot the lone fry just above his eye)
  5. These look great! Well done Ronnie keep it up. Champion discus breeder and bettas now too!!
  6. This pair have laid many times but never got the wrigglers to successfully find the parents when the time was right....until now Day1 (first day free swimming): Day 4:

I heard the tank crash thing is false.
  8. Read this article yesterday.....it's awesome! hopefully my clowns do this one day. Got about 14 and 3 are getting really big
  9. UV steriliser is good it means you won't have whitespot (UV kills this parasite). Flukes you cannot see with the naked eye, need a microscope. Prazi won't hurt the plants or the biofilter. It's also a wormer which is nice. You'd have to get some from a vet if anywhere. You should also be able to get stronger formalin from the vet (40% as opposed to 5% from LFS). PP is easier to get, most pharmacies will have it.
  10. hehe great pic Billaney Glad everyone seems to have had a good time. It was a fun weekend! I think that's a good idea Dancer17, could get some healthy competition started between clubs too. Then again could make it harder when trying to group fish for judging
  11. lol I've just started doing that tonight. Using a 6500k metal hallide bulb (400w). It's more the wattage than the lighting temperature (kelvin) that is important. 6500k gives a nice daylight look to everything. The lower numbers sound interesting too so might have to try those some day. Riccia needs a lot of light if it's on the bottom as it actually a floating plant.
  12. Yes there was, heaps of great killies even some there from the great Alan himself! It was a very successful and fun event. A lot of the pack down is done already. Thanks to everyone who came along and supported us

They kept 10 of that kind of fish all in one tank?!?!!!!
  14. Yup all set and ready to go! I look forward to meeting heaps of various club members and everyone else. It's going to be a fun show
  15. Cool range of fish ljtan55. I've seen young discus do this before and the conclusion I came to was that it's flukes, sorta makes sense, like it's irritating the fish so they try to swim away from it and freak out. Try some PP or praziquantel if you can get some see what happens.
  16. Probably a severe fluke infection. Flukes will be killed by the drontal as that has praziquantel in it (a great fluke killer), but like Sharn was getting at it has other undesirables so can make them sick from that too. I use dissolved potassium permanganate
  17. Home straight to the fish show now guys hope you're all getting excited!!! :bounce:
  18. A tough cookie that always gave a lot and had a real passion for fishkeeping. I remember him telling me that he was fascinated by killifish for decades and I'm sure he still is What a shock. He gave a great presentation on killies to our club just last year (I think). RIP Alan and thanks.
  19. I think you meant as a cichlid... Breeding keeps me going.......the idea of BIG schools of tetras...rummies, cardinals, neons, glowlights.......yup!
  20. Afraid not. Discus are happiest in groups of five or more and either by themselves or with other slow moving fish, e.g cardinal tetras.
  21. When they said cross between a glowlight and a danio did they mean glowlight tetra? lol ...right. Yes I have a couple of these fish, they are very active and I find people see them and comment on them even though there's only 2 in a 300L tank.
