  1. why kill Them?catch them and feed them out, people pay good money for a food supply like that?
  2. If they are up for sale to the general public or anyone who has the money then its not really the right thing to be doing.I would only pass babies of this size on to experienced people.
  3. more dependent on size but 2yrs seems about the minimum.I had an accidental mating with a good sized yearling. She has never growen much since and is still what you would call a "small"female.
  4. it is way too young and I said as much last week to someone on here that had bought two probably from the same batch as this one?Even the shop should be asked the question on this I think, without knowing anything else I would suggest a breeder with heaps of eggs hatching and trying to get rid of them ask quick as he/she can.Not a responsible act but one of greed I would say?
  5. geez ,Roski you are starting to sound like a vet student or something??
  6. from the limeworks just down the road.
  7. by country do you mean planet Gremlin?where did you come from?
  8. just scatter it about like confetti at a wedding?give it heaps as can get it for nothing, there are little lumps here and there they can find but mostly just falls down among the grass etc.I leave big piles here and there, usually do it a couple of times a year.

    Fish dying

    that was 30,000 litres?
  10. was that the one from pet mania?a little boxie?
  11. they are not designed to eat alot of the things you mention as a staple but only for an ocassional treat.Abit like offering a kid lollies ,and sweet stuff, after a while they won`t eat what they should. In the natural state they browse tender new growth of various green plants, they also have peaks of intense intake of this type of stuff to coincide with the seasons,ie,spring growth, flushes of growth after rain etc.I would ease up on the vitamin supplements as such and give quality vegetable matter in the form of puha, dandelion ,chicory etc.The idea being that the greenstuff should contain enough vitamins. The kidneys of these creatures are their weak point and any dietry excesses will show up here. What the mainly need is calcium, calcium and more calcium. The plants that grow in their natural range are growing in huge deposits of limestone from a prehisotric sea that has dried up,the name escapes me at the moment?no limestone deposits ..no tortoises!anyway all these plants are as a result high in calcium, they also eat calcium in its raw form from bits of broken limestone rock. You can supplement this by giving them incinerated bones which are really soft and crumbly and they go for them,i also topdress the yard with alot of limesand or crushed lime to imitate this.
  12. sorry reptimax,I thought you said females?I have 4 females wanting a male.
  13. do you hang around long grass and loiter under street lights at night?
  14. I have 4 out there somewhere, would do you a swap for a breeding age male?
  15. don`t know what this season`s price is yet? but saw them in the birdbarn recently for $400 each.I used to sell them for double that only 2yrs ago. There are alot that have been bred that are now breeding themselves so its the old supply and demand thing?its still alot of hard work to hatch and raise quality babies that means ones that are healthy, eating everything and still have all their appendages they came with(tails, toes, claws etc)other breeders will be more up with the play than me?
  16. go easy with the waxworms, they will get blocked up real quick. Also the mealworms at this age are suspect? The best thing to get is newly hatched locusts but better if you are setup for this yourself.Get a big net and run through long grass etc and you can catch alot of small gnats and fly type stuff, alot of small prey items are better than one or two big things if you get what I mean.I would refrain from handling them as well, they are pretty fragile at that age.I would never sell them to anyone so young personally.
  17. have you had these before and know what they need to eat at that size?if you haven`t and don`t have access to heaps of live food of the right size,I don`t like these lizards chances of living long?
  18. too many questions, too much lack of typing skills(mine)check back through the old postings and you should find the same questions.
  19. bit early yet I would say?head down to the local swamp, you might see the odd frog?what about banks penninsular?there are some cool geckos from that area, but just look don`t touch!wait till it gets a bit warmer.
  20. alan, would suggest you try getting another icecream container with a lid and cut 4 round holes to fit those see through cheap plastic throw away cups. You get more control over the batchs of eggs and they don`t dry out as quick as the bigger container. You can take them out as often as you like.I used to do them each time they layed at first .was a mission to keep track of them all but man i got some numbers up fast. Now I just do it weekly using a shallow box with 6 cups.
  21. no,but you have the fishroom that was built to solve the toadstool problem?
  22. reminds me of a fishkeeper friend of mine. You all know the story, starts with one tank then the guppy has babies ,another species another tank, etc etc.the spare room has 99% humidity....he gets the hard word from his mrs to build a fishroom and get all those tanks out of the house when she finds toadstool like fungi growing out of the carpet??
  23. I have kept fish and been a landlord,I would never rent a house to a fishkeeper?and as for your one or two drops of water on the carpet???yeah right!
  24. had frogs at many times during my life at all stages of growth from taddies upwards and can say I have never ever seen them shed their skin as spoon says?anyone else have anything to offer on this?
  25. they have a limited lifespan for putting out sufficient UV even though they still go and look no different to your vision.I have about 6 old ones if anyone wants them?
