  1. yeah like you see turtles climbing trees to get their apples, bannanas and then off with a spade to dig a few carrots?Nothing wrong with cat bicuits as part of a balanced diet, even a staple if you use a bit of commonsense as to feeding ammounts and times. There are probably just as many obese cats as turtles if they get stuck with some dimwit of an owner that chooses to stuff them with food at every oportunity?
  2. get with the program charlie, have you never heard of people that tell lies?
  3. the darn good reason would probably be the introduction of disaeses that were not here before. Not really relevant in this case as said animals had their approval (MAF)and had been here for 18 months or more and living from one end of the country to the other.
  4. you appear to have answered your own question? They will go into hibernation and do nothing but sleep, the lack of interest in food is natural and they will empty their stomachs and shut down into a suspended state, low heartbeat, respiration etc etc.do not muck around with them just provide the right conditions and let nature do the rest.
  5. that would be the pair that no one has ever seen???
  6. I think you may have said too much already?
  7. time for a tui,who else wants one?
  8. do they offer a money back gaurantee if your reps were to say...get confiscated and destroyed???
  9. I don`t really think its "kinda dumb" as someone put it.They are harder to keep alive and healthy than you or I might think,if every Tom ,dick and harry goes out and starts looking or them, let alone catching them???Habitat destruction, breeding population decimation etc etc. They are not endangered for nothing.Someone maybe lucky enough to breed some but I suspect alot more harm than good would happen.
  10. have seen those that do and those that don`t even down to in the wild.Went out with my brother in qsld and tried to catch some,he had to put his gogles on and dive down, look for a hairy algae covered rock that moved and he could just pick them off the bottom. They had a good inch thick layer of it and been a long time under the water?Have also seen alot here in captivity that never seem to feel the need to come out, they must how ever if they want to lay?
  11. two males with no females in sight that have growen up together may be ok.a male and female together is not the best either sometimes.Like david said???
  12. thanks perpin, sorry to be the one to tell you,but you have now qualified for a free internal search when you arrive!!!!
  13. no doubt you can do us a conversion?
  14. ok Perpin, now give us the final kick in the guts while we are down. What are the market rate prices for these beasties?
  15. yes H,doesn`t it make you feel like we live in an almost reptilian vacum?
  16. now you are just showing off!!! You are going to be dissapointed!!
  17. you are in for a big dissapointment in your reptile hobby when you get here I am sorry to tell you perpin. There will be some things in the native line that may interest you once you get the necessary permits etc but by and large we have sod all?
  18. i don`t know that there is any cost for the permit but I know they inspect your housing for the lizards be fpre you get the permit. We used to have outdoor enclosures but not sure what the doc standing on this wouls be,I think they prefer that you are a member of the herp soc but also not sure if this is a requirement?it is a good way to get to know others and in fact the only way you are meant to get your animals by swapping etc ,others will have the latest rules & regs.
  19. a friend of mine went to a tile shop and scored a whole lot of broken slate tiles for nothing a while back, could be worth a try?
  20. they still seem to know whats really happening with the seasons outside.could be wrong but have witnessed this with my young boxies kept inside for their first winter as well. The coming out of brumation period seems to be a direct trigger for mating acceptance and egg production whatever else happens.
  21. I have square wire mesh screens on the sides of the cages for them to climb up and rest on when they are basking/moulting.they just hang on small nails out from the wall so you can take them out if you want to have a roundup.
  22. if you put their front feet on one hand and lift gently by the base of the tail and look at their under belly from behind, you may see slight bumps in their belly like a bunch of grapes.I found that they laid alot earlier in the season than this but not sure about late laying?Varanophile would know more than most.
  23. I don`t know but heating is not a problem. What is the population of america?so many million people, who knows that answer?if 3% want a turtle its probably sod all??someone can no doubt enlighten us to the figures?
  24. the first time mine laid you could hardly tell at all.the main thing was it went off its food and was acting differently.I thought it was sick or something at the time.Put her outside for some sun and she started digging,23 eggs later she was skinny with sagging skin?I would not go squeezing and feeling, the eggs are quite soft and if you managed to break any peritonitis would be a rapid death?
