  1. thank you for correcting me MGil Shae 250
  2. yuo dont need to use filtered water, just about all water in nz is clean enough to go straight in the aquarium, as long as it has been declorinated first, just add a quater of hot water to three quaters cold water in a bucket, it works for me and is usually about 22-24c when it hits my tank, yup do a 25% water change every week, you only really need to clean the gravel once a month, unless ou tank is over croweded! 3. would you be able to posta pic of it? Cheers Shae
  4. sounds like everything is going good, glad to hear! keep us posted Cheers Shae
  5. welcome to the site Dont hesistate to asks questions, here there is no such thing as a silly one! think of us as a second family as for the neons with discus, you'll find if your buying smaller dicus they will be fine at first, but discus grow, and will eat the neons! i have a friend who has neon tetras in his tank, with discus, they get bigger than normal neons, and you shouldn't have a problem. discus are not the easiest fish to keep, and if your a "newbie" it would be an expensive lesson to learn if it didnt go so well! Cheers Shae
  6. Platy do not need to be kept in schools!!! welcome to the hobby, suggestions for fish? i am a bit biasd i personally would suggest some sort of livebearer, cheap, hardy, easy to keep and breed! very good community fish! but i must agree with Steve (ballisitc) you should make sure your tank is set at the right temp, that you filter is running right, that you have dechlorinated the water, adn have added some healthy bacteria, of which can be bought, Stress zyme etc! will get your tank cycling and runnning in no time! Cheers Shae
  7. what do you mean by pure?
  8. the garage is huge!! it will be very hard to heat it! and expensive seing as its not insulated or anything! any toher ideas, i have seen these heat pad things that sit under tanks? would this bre affective? Cheers Shae

  14. thats not one of my males steve! its not evena male, i would almost say thats one of my marigold platy! cuz that what mine look like! if my dad finds the charger for his digital camera i will take a pic of my babies and show you! Cheers Shae
  15. one tank isnt going to do the job!, i suggest atleast three, one for the females to become inseminated, which is where the adults go, this is o'caorse after you have a secure strain, one for maturing the fry to adults, and the other for breeding specifics, such as a good looking father breeding to a stong bodies good colour sister, to see if you get a better colour in the female or a stonger body in the male etc etcl, i use atleast 2 foots so as not to stunt the growth of my guppys if you need anymore help, i suggest you post it in the livbearering forum Cheers Shae
  16. the females are looking good steve, i hope you didnt mix my strain with the ones in that othere tank that look half wild and alot smaller than mine? cause you'll end up losing the size and colour of my strain in with the othere guppys you have obtained! the females still have not got full colour in there tail which is interesting? i would say rather than haveing sword genes as peter said they have not queit produced the full colour in there tails, as my fry do the same and then get the full coloured tail! i am wondering where you have the firetails? which are the males of my strain?? Cheers Shae
  17. plz entlighten me on this? although it is not a room it is my garage, I intend on having about 20 tanks out there and for guppys and killies, but heating will be very expensive, i have already noticed that the electrity bill has gone up over an extar $80 with the 7 tank i have, so i am assuming 20 will be much more expensive, i have seen heating pads on the underside of tanks though?? Cheers Shae
