  1. its one thing for a guppy to die, its another to lose bigger personatly fish, can get more attached, especially if you've had one of them for 14 years. Shae 250
  2. ! seem to remmember a trickle filter on your fry tank? I would deffinatly put a sponge filter of some sought in the tank. Personaly i run those small $20 pump drivin sponge filters, and have them on a low setting, works well. Agreed that old water from previous tanks would be much better. Shae 250
  3. i have tonnes of spare time on my hands know, with exams etc over, feel free to give me a bell. Shae 250
  4. what do you mean "when is a good time to transfer them into a baby tank"? when there born maybe..... Shae 250
  5. firslty where would you get the idea that she was gonna have albinos? and secondly the gravid spot can look redish if in direct light! otherwise you she might have internal bleeding? i dunno how red is it? Shae 250
  6. i have also had a batch of platy and guppy today, not so much that exiting for me anymore though. looking forward to my killies. Shae 250
  7. i have those snails and there a bloddy nusance! i get as many as i can and crush them in the tank, then my fish eat them but they still come back in full force! Shae 250
  8. Why? is the tank over stocked? or do you have a disease running through it? cuz otherwise there is no reason to be doing it! if the water is too clean its not healthy! and this might be the reason for the stress. Shae 250
  9. premature release of fry, suggests the two problems above. Shae 250
  10. guppys are pregnant continuously, as long as there is a male in the tank, but straight after a birth the females gravid spot should have almost completly disappeared, and they should seem exausted. Shae 250
  11. ground up flake food works great. personaly i would go for the micro daphnia, they'll grow twice as fast, BBS is a waste of time, and harder to grow and feed, not to mention expensive for what they are. Shae 250
  12. i go with tried and true and for me thats melafix, so that will be my recommendation. Shae 250
  13. Welcome to the site Shae 250
  14. i disagree, the only reason for a female guppy not to release all her fry every 4 weeks, is either the water conditions are to bad, or stress! therefore the females you have that are dropping a few first week and then dropping the rest after 2 weeks must have one of the above? Shae 250
  15. i agree with wok in regards to the heating!
  16. a very easy sypdom to catch Phillz! Shae 250
  17. sry i tell a lie, have just checked it does 680lph Shae 250
  18. ira, my Fluval 204 external canister filter does a 200l tank! at 1000l an hour! Shae 250
  19. My first suggestion is to get a net breeder for the interum, until you get the new setup running, this way you can not only make sure you dont lose you r fry, but you can maximise the amount of food they get and minimise the amount of effort to get it too them and for them to get it! in my opinion flake food is the way to go!has never let me down! i start all my livebearer fry off with this, until they are big enough to move on to micro daphnia, which is usually just a day or so! a net breeder is $7.95 from you LFS so wont blow the budget! Shae 250
  20. would be appreciated phillz, we need to get more traffic running through the livebearer forum, so it is a good ay to start, while you at it if you already havnt why dont you join the livbearer club? http://poecilia.net.nz/ Shae 250
  21. a Fluval 404 external canister filter will dop the trick! 2-3 id over kill! a fluval 404 will do up to a 1000l tank! and then just put Ug filters Right round Shae 250
