  8. apologise to alan! for the post that was previously here!
  9. originally had them givin to me and then cutlured them! culturing daphnia is easy once you've got some just put them in a container or small tank and feed them every now and them with a peice of lettuce and theyll breed like wild fire, then all you do is get ur net and scoop it through the container and feed it to ur fish! the ones thatr left will keep repleneshing the population! Cheers Shae
  10. nah just make like a metal mesh net that is big enough for fry but small enough so that the adults dont get through! put some males and females in a tank , watch them lay eggs then take them out put them in another tank and raise the fry in the other tank! thats put way to simply but its the just Cheers Shae
  11. very!! i happen to have some!! Cheers Shae
  12. i grew them like that and have had no probs!!
  13. its pritty simple jst time consuming! there egg scaterers! and yes you can make lots of money LB
  14. limestone is a no! on my part it isnt jst for cichlids its for all my tanks!
  15. they are good for platy but a pain, and i waist of time! if i were you i would use either microworms to start wiith or commercially ground up flake food or like i say micro daphnia! they r very easy to culture! the kapi-man club meets at 20 mexted tce in linden at 8pm on the last wed of every month and were always looking for new ppl to join! i think its about $20 plus bring a dollar or two for some cake and coffee etc Cheers Shae
  16. i doubt it it will compact and cuz problems i think?
  17. firslty what size is the breeding tank? secondly you shouldnt be doing water changes so often its not healthy! only do it every three- four days with fry, thirdly i dont understand why you are feeding platy fry bbs?? its to much of a pain in the but! it would be much easier to feed them commercialy crushed flakke food or micro daphnia! fourth four times a day is not overfeeding as long as they can eat ehat ur feeding them! cuz otherwise your gonna make the water yuck! i doubt that it was the bbs that cuaed the death, i think it was probably the water changes!! becuz it cuzed undo stress and a few other things i cant think of right now?? Cheers Shae
  18. yup i have lots of adults but i keep the ones i want and sell the rest! Cheers Shae
  19. i am having a very hard time finding the type i want, and am wondering if any1 could help? i would like a very very fine gravel, preferably sandy colour or a light colour! i went down to the river earlier this week and collected some river sand, but it was not very good in a tank! it compacted together and im not sure wether this is good or not, i am presuming not! i would even settle for a dark gravel as long as it is very fine! i have seen some ppls cichlid setups online and they look really nice with a very fine sandy looking gravel! i wonder what this is? any help would be appreciated! Cheers Shae
  20. i only no of two places that breeds them and the only reason is that they mass produce! but if your going to do it on a small scale its to much of a hassle to bother with!
  21. most fry should be ready for microworms! what sort of fry do you have?
  22. doubtful the goldfish will have most likley eaten anything edable including daphnia
  23. agreed with bill! it doubt it would have been the salt water mixture that would have killed the baby platy, as they prefer saltyish water or brackish water, an as long as you didnt put most of the salt solution into the tank then it shouldnt have done any harm! i have lost many baby platy in my time breeding them, they are one of the worst livebearers to breed as if there stressed etc they will give you a bad brood, water conditions could have played a part in killing your babies though! what sort of tanks etc do you mature them in?
  24. lol!!! breeding pair!!! they are also known as a the million fish because they breed like nothing on earth! with guppies i never use a pair nor do i need two specific ones that seem to like each other becuase the males are horny little buggers!! you get them in a trio atleast otherwise the male will haslte the females to death, i keep my ratio to 4 females to a male! from my knowlege althougth i could be wrong steve (ballistic) and i do not have adults they are pre-teen sort of age at the momment! if you dont mind waiting im sure steve or i would be happy to sell you a trio!! Cheers Shae
