  5. Ok in regards to this clamped fin subject. I have lost many hundreds of young guppy to this in my early stages of breeding. I do not belive it is treatable, I have tryed everything under the sun, however i find some batches just die becuase of it, and in others only a few die. I believe i no the answer, ever since my problem with that started as i said i had tryed many things, know i no longer have any problems and becuase i do one simple thing! everyhting for the maturing tank is takin from another healthy running tank, eg gravel, plants and water. I also have the heater and filter in the other tank for a few days before they go into the maturation tank, ever since i have done this i have never had a problem. Shae 250

  7. They are better photos than i have ever been able to take of fry. Try danio fry now theres a challenge! Shae 250
  8. The smart thing to do would be to put in substrate from already running tanks. that way it is already full of bacteria and should be fine for the fry to go straight back into. Shae 250
  9. or be smart and plan ahead before you buy the fish! Its not fare on the fish you buy or the fish your already own. Dont buy if your not sure, and never trust the advice of your LFS staff, remmeber they are there to sell you the product!! Shae 250

  14. Alright this is my "delima"......... I have got mainly big tanks and have decided to down size but in mass, my intentions are to have many, many small tanks....... The reason for this is for my killies, i want to get more species and intend on breeding them, but my current setups are too few and too big........... It has not been hard to heat these tanks, but the electicity bill has increaed hugely. i am worried with more smaller tanks if i have to have little indiviual heaters in each tank that the electricty bill will increase, and the cost would be harrendase for the heaters alone........... I have thought about alternative means of heating all these small tanks, so far i have figured out that heating the garage with lights or gas heater etc would not work, becuase it is not insulated and heat quickly disapates. and as said before individual heater for each tank is not the street i wont to take....... so i have come to the conclusion that heating pads would do the trick, i have seen many setups in the wellington region with these, and they seem to be rather effective. however in my search for them i have been terrabley unsuccesful.......... I was wondering if anyone new a means of either purchaseing them or making them? I have read an article on how to DIY one but seemed extremly complicated......... Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers Shae 250

  18. I think its time for the birds and the bees talk Shae 250
  19. As i have said before, i do not think it is such a good mix, especially in that little tank of yours. Shae 250
  20. I would NOT recommend useing jiucy fuit chewing gum! do you know what sort of effect it could have on your fish? how long do you expect it to last? You should head Bills Advice and get some silicon. either that or decomision the tank. Its not that expensive. And Tim you should not be encouraging him to do something like that! Shae 250
  21. aight well i have a 50l perspex container for the sump. at the mo i just have daphnia in it, but am moving those into a large tank down the side of the house. will i have to have wholes in the actual reef tank itself? the 60l i mean? Cheers Shae 250
  22. Thats not true, i have a tank that has the light on for about 15 hours a day and I had a huge problem with brown alagae, it wasnt a new setup either. Shae 250
  23. hmmm........i was under the impression that plants breath Co2? if so then you would need a certain amount oif water movement to alow the water to oxygenate or consume Co2 and then relise oxygen into the water?? please correct me if i am wrong but i find that in my big tank the more water movement the faster they grow?? also i think thats why you put a Co2 thingy into ur tank becuase there isnt enough Co2 goign into the tank for the plants?? Shae 250
