  1. Hey VCH, Welcome to the Federation Jump into the chatroom about 7pm your time everynight and have a chat, glad to see some of our national neighbours on the forum. what part of victoria are you from? I lived in Elthem, Mont merency, melbourne about 3 years back, loved it for the most part. although at the time was more into my reptiles and birds, frogs, blue tongues, crimson rosellas, rainbow lorekeats (sp), you guys have some stunning birds. Shae
  2. Thanks guys, to be honest eric, im going to need all the plant i can get once the fishroom is up, so i want the tank to over grow. Shae
  3. Why? Its easy to get amonia levels ina tank if you have been overfeeding, overstocking and undermaintaning. Shae
  4. Heres a pic of about half the Black widoe Fry, most are on the left hand corner beside the Filter. The flaming snail eggs make the tank less than desirable. Shae
  5. Thought rather than just starting up another topic i would just go on from this one. Plants are coming along nicley now, have just redon the DIY CO2, you can see my diffuser in the left side. Shae
  6. Might be an Idea. Less poluting that microworms, and can swim. Shae
  7. The palmqvisti have come along way from this To this Update on my favourite killie My Red Korthausea- flora gets some free publicity My young Yellow Korthausea, comin along nicley Thanks to David and Stu Shae
  8. You should do a gravel clean, that im asumming is were the amonia will be coming from, fish poo biuld up = amonia spikes, water changes can help, you dont want any amonia in your tanks. What size tank and what population of fish/size/type? if your tnak is over stocked then that could be one of the probs aswell. Shae
  9. Please explain better, i dont quiet understand? First of all DO NOT treat them with any medicine! this i have found is normal behavour in males, not nessecarily females, without evedince of sickness, such as physical appearance or swimming difficultys, you shoudl not treat with any kind of medication, Find out the problem then treat the fish. Personaly i dont know how somone can diagnose an illness as ich, when it has been described as a behavioural feature not one of sickness, sugestion at most if really worried, do a water change and add a bit of tonic salt. as always with livebearers, if they contract ich then you should treat with salt not other medications, salt is more natural and they live in a highish silinity quite nicley. All my livebearer tanks are "salted" so to speak. Shae
  10. as long as there was a few bubble not heaps then you are fine. Dont worry about slits in the container. You might have found it was a bad hatch, it happens. As said dont worry about it, get focused on the next spawn Shae
  11. larger tetras shoudl be fine, such as glowlights, black widows, bleeding hearts etc. If what you call panchax have strippes then your right, otherwise if the male is just gold, then it is an Aplocheilus Lineatus or Golden wonder killie, not a panchax. Shae
  12. it looks like a skin irritation, not sure thougg, whats the scilinity (sp) in the tank? What other fish are in there? how long has the tank been running? what were you feeding? water perameters? Shae
  13. you want to wait till the egg sacks have disappeared, because they will feed on that, and will start swimming properly when finished, thats when you shoudl feed, removing fry from another tank isnt smart, tends to cause damage or stress on the small fish, some ppl have success with it some ppl dont, if your angels are spawining all the time i wouldnt worry about it. make sure if you are removing them thye go into clean aged/cycled water, if i were you i would remove them into a floater in one of my tanks, that way you can monitor them easily, and when the time comes fill there bellys with little energy expense on the fishes part. Shae
  14. Dont feed the fry till they are free swimming. Shae
  15. Im surprised you still have neons. Shae
  16. animalz (wellington) animates (wellington) animates (melling) animal corner (porirua) hutt pet (lower hutt) any pet store sells it. PM me and i will send you the exact address, also welcome to wellington, if ya ever need anything im quiet happy to try an help. Shae
  17. I think preferabley you want a clay or peat layer, then a finer subsrate over top. Shae
  18. Haha, looks like winstons fish are really prolific, mine are doing the same thing everyday, however they are in a heavily populated tank, theres no way there eggs will survive or any fry(good!). Congrates MA Shae
  19. Its a deffect, i have had this in one of my platy aswell, i am not sure of the name but some1 will be able tot tell you. Shae
  20. It means there fins are clamped, which suggests either poor water qaulity or more likely stress. Are you sure it is fin rot and not fin nippers? what other fish are in with them? becuase nipped fins can deteriorate and eventuate into fin rot. Post some pictures that would be helpful in determining the problem. Shae
  21. Cheers Caryl, what i have is Hygrophila difformis, thanks to caryl i found out. Shae
