along with Alan's comment, everything in the tank should be cycled, my suggestion, Take water, filter and heater from a pre-cycled tank. Did any of the fry have pointed tails before they died? or were swimming funny? for example, seemed to be working perticularly hard to keep in one place or swim? It is not over feeding, i feed my fry huge amounts of food, wether they be livebearers or killies, however i suggest livefoods only, such as microworms and BBS, causes less problems with water quality as they are livefoods and your fish will love you the more for it. it might have been an amonia spike however i doubt that aswell, if there was little waste on the bottom of the tank and the water was as clear as it shoudl be then you can be pritty sure. Do put a snail or two in the bottom, not only will they put the waste into tidy little packages but the snail extetment help produce small organisms called infusoria that the fry will eat. Shae

Im useing high density foam, aqua Gib (the waterproof stuff) and then some sought of water proof paint. Question: how would i go about drilling holes in glass lids, the size of air tubing? 6mm glass. Shae

You could be looking at dropsy, do the scales appear to be poiting outwards slightly? Shae

Maybe its just cause i keep all my fish well fed. I feed my fish Livefoods not frozen, Live bloodworms, mossy, daphny, white worms, brineshrimp, microworms etc i dont like to feed my fish flake or frozen foods. Shae

I had one really pussy angel thats why they were ok together. gouramis are fine, they dont tedn to take any notice od each other, id say tetras and the likes would go ok aswell, especially in a heavily planted tank, you can get away with more. Shae

Hey Eric, i just read your email, apologies i have been really busy with NCEA. ok, well firstly i would say no to the Sharks, the Owner musnt have a clue cause convicts can move bloody fast if they want to, you will most likley find dead sharks down the track. Yes they love planted tanks, i have mine in heavily planted tanks and i think that is the main reason for the success with breeding them. Although they do breed like rabbits mine were laying eggs every 6-7 days, and with plants it makes them feel more secure and happy, i spose, as with most fish. I had my Convicts in a 160l tank with heaps of guppys and platys, gouramis, a single angel, a couple of lineatus, two pictus, 4 corys and a few bristlenose and never had a problem. Shae

You should now try and feed either Microworm milk or BBS, I dont particularly like feeding crushed flake, however its better than no food. BBS are better because they swim and the fish will take more interest in them, not only the babies but the parents aswell, and once they get a tast for the BBS they will gorge themselves on it, therfore, more food, more growth. However some ppl would object to useing live food for Convicts. I think all fish should be treated the same way, i feed all my fish live food , and im also a bit biased cause i love convicts. It depends, how mature are the angels? angels can be aggresive and guntheri can too. I wouldnt mix the species. Shae

Well it means to kill or remove but NTL, You dont grow guppys just to cull them, do you mean to start doing selective breeding and wot not? Shae

You want them to grow fast so you can cull them? well there now about 23mm long and colours are really strong now, i can already differentiate females however this could change as they grow. Shae

If the story is true then your most likely looking at Gambusia and i would go do exactly what Alan has suggested. Shae

Hey Chris long time no see! the coldwater marine is easy im just about to go and get some stuff from the beach to do one myself, only problem is keeping it cool. A couple of powerheads to give water flow, a small amount of light, i suggest moon tube they look cool, put some rock and sand and bit of marine plant, a few shrimp and your off, depending on size id do a weekly water change of freshwater and a fortnightly change of salt water. Im no expert on saltwater so if ive got it wrong feel free to correct me. Cant really help with the freshwater native, but when i was down at the river yesterday i saw heaps of fish. Shae

see if you can fit all you gear for your carry on into your normal luggage and then just put all the fish in your carry on. Shae

They are egg scatterers and dont tend to pair up, They give no care to the eggs or young, so i think you might just have a few agressive neons however i have never seen that sought of behaviour in them. Shae
