  1. Theres no set growth rate, feed them lots of healthy foods, they grow farely quickly, feed them once a day on flake, they take long. colour depends on age and groeth aswell. I grew guppys from fry in 2 weeks they were coloured up and about 2cm in the body. i feed thema constant supply of newly hatch BBS. Shae
  2. I would suggest, either Microworms or BBS both a good source of livefood for young fish. Shae
  3. I know some people reccomend the Net breeders, but i dont, this is why: The framing on the inside can crush the fry, when they hide under or beside them. breeder boxes do not have this, and you can clearly see the fry by looking into the tank, rather than having to look in the top. The net keeps all crap and un eated food inside it. where as with the breeder boxes they have small slots in the bottom, which you can just lift slightly out of the water and put back in for a water change and clean! The nets can only be placed were there metal clips alow, and to a certain water level, breeder boxes float, can be moved to any position in the tank, and sits on any water level. Fry can be picked of through net breeders by bigger fish such as angels, but they cannot be caught through the breeder boxes. I know some say that they can be picked of through the slots in the bottom, and that is true with the big breeder boxes, but if you get the guppy breeder boxes, (i will find exact brand soon) the slots are too small for this, and i have watched my angels many times try get at fry and never had success. These breeder boxes are smaller, and are a little bit more expensive ($10) but i think the above warrents enough reason for purchaseing one or two. I am always useing mine, to grow up very small fry and other things. If it were me i would never purchase another net breeder. however some people sware by them, in the end it is up to the aqauriest, and ill leave it at that. Shae
  4. I have never heard of this happening? Very interesting to read though, Females are usually quite content with being by themselves, put her back in the nursery, and chuck in heaps of live foods, hopefully her back will straighten back up. I have lost many females after giving birth, it sounds as if your female is very stressed. Dont worry if the female has a bit of a psycho in the nursery to start with, she will settlle down and start chomping on the livefoods eventually. Shae
  5. I had a little 8w flourescet on mine, and the anenomes were fine, i think tim has a 15w moon tube?? correct me if im wrong tim. Shae
  6. Stu and i had fish in bags for what 6-8 hours?, from whakatane to napier, were we stopped to chat to ppl for a hour or two, then to wellington including stops. I was more thinking a 3 day thing, were we go all over the north island lol Shae
  7. What type of camera do you have reef? those are awsome pics, crystal clear. Shae
  8. Shocking pictures, but gives you an idea of colour. just took these Shae
  9. well we have a plan then!! Shae
  10. we "fink" alike then, Jody, what we should do is get som1 with a van, get 7 ppl, divide the cost of petrol between us and do a trip round the lfs, with a temporary setup in the boot, i have a battery powered pump, to run a filter, and air con can keep the temp at about 20-22c, so thats sweet, and i can bring along a whole tone of livefood to pack the tank with, and a spare bucket of water, for a water change and ill bring my camera, and document us, all slowly pulling up to a LFS, every1 jumping out quickly, runnning into the store yeling and screaming, raiding it of its fish, then jumpin in the car again and sooming off. lol Shae Thinking out loud.
  11. setup a temporary tank while ur up there, so you can collect fish and then bring them back with you. Shae

    Hi

Welcome to the site mate. Some of us are in the chatroom everynight after 8:30-9:00 Come in "the waters fine" as some ppl like to say. Shae
  14. Well if you lived here i would buy some off you. If you intend on selling them then put a post up in the PTAE or on trademe, pet stores only take maturish fish. Shae
  15. Well done Caryl, cant wait to get my hands on some Shae
  16. Hey Penejane, I am presuming these fish are straight from the shop. If so it means that unless they have bought Line bred guppys (very much doubt it as they are so expensive), then you could buy 2 Blue male deltas and have them breed with 4 colourless females, and get Red delta fry. It all depends on the fishes gentic history. And this is were you get into the complicated stuff with guppys. However maybe it is not YET for you. But for future knowlege just incase your interested. Ive found this site most useful, and should explain things to you very well. http://guppyplace.tripod.com/Breeding.html
  17. Welcome to the site. Female guppys are always pregnant if there are males in the tank. Dont worry to hard about the little guys there very hardy fish, and it always seems to me when i worry about a fish it ends up dieing in some way. Shae
  18. Id like to emphasis the word "idea" Shae
  19. If there are questions then ask them in the appropriate forums, there is no limit to posts per day, and ppl on this site are more than happy to help, thats what this site is about. Feel free to do so. Shae
  20. It sounds like you've done everything right. I generally cycle a new tank if i dont have pre existing ones to borrow water etc from for about 7 days. Sometimes you cannot do anything for fish, you might find this male is an acception to the others you bought. Shae
  21. Generally i sign of stress. Bad water perameters are usually the cultprit if its a new tank. How long did you cycle it for? Shae
  22. Tuxedo platy Theres no way to tell how far along they are, the Gravid spot can be of any size. If there fed right and conditions are good you'll get fry every 4-6 weeks But they will mosly get eatin. Heavily plant your tank, gives the fry a better chance of survival. You have a good M to F ratio. Shae
