  1. they also have a BIG tendancy to spit when I bred mine they wouldn't hold for more than 3 days so I stripped the eggs and raised every single one!
  2. I was under the opinion that they couldn't breed until they are 10cm because that's when they become fertile I think. I have 2 pairs and one of the pairs was "breeding" this morning but she layed no eggs and didn't even have her egg layer out  Good luck with them I had 60 of them at 4cm at one stange, I should have kept alot more of them. They are kool fish
  3. Also, how many watts per litre is best? Do the pink "plant tubes" do anything special?
  4. I will hopefully be upgrading the tank to a 4 foot 200 litre tank and if/when i do that i will put in the "aquatic mix" The reason I was thinking about a moonlight thing is because it's in my bedroom and then I can watch them as I go to sleep My CO2 should be ok because it's only a DIY mix in a fizzy bottle with the Nurafin diffuser. When are you gonna give me some of that plant fert then Luke??
  5. Hello Everyone, I've just decided to make a 'planted' tank and i have a few questions so any help would be much appreciated. 1. What plant ferts do you use if any? 2. How would a moonlight system with LEDs effect the plants? 3. Is it possible to drown fish with too much CO2? Some pictures of other people's tank would also be much appreciated. thanks in advance
  6. why not come down to matamata and get it from Daltons

  8. glad i though of it!
  9. now that's a better opinion 8) I agree HFF the mouthbrooders are so kool to watch and their breeding colours are awesome.
  10. what about fry? how long will they be ok for?
  11. well i have a 2100x600x600 about 800 litres and a 1350x791x710 that is 750 litres. Of course both of them have malawi cichlids in them I might get some pictures up later.
  12. those ones sound like they will be a good mix, what other types of haps were you thinking of?
  13. Thanks heap Caryl, I got mine today. There's a real good article on malawians in there, where did you get it from
  14. I can't make it, I don't really want a big day out before an exam. Have fun!
  15. Calcite gravel is white. I keep my electric blue ahli (Scaenochromis ahli) in with electric yellows and other malawis and I have had no problems although in some peoples' opinions they may not be classified as a peacock.
  16. i've seen tropical fish arrive at shops in cardboard boxes - lined with polystyrene, maybe this is what you've heard about?
  17. in my humble opinion, i think all mbuna are worth $5-6 at that size, $12 is too much.
  18. The pictures look exactly the same to me, does the aquis have UV?
  19. AWESOME! Do you have your meetings at the National Aquarium?
