  1. it must be a female jacobfreibergi, borleyi dont have stripes. I assume it was the electric yellow that held the eggs?
  2. well i find when putting in whole peas the fish actually shell them, chew them up and spit out the shell but very quickly all the sheels build up and it makes the tank look bad
  3. How much will flow through a 22mm overflow pipe? I have a hole drilled at each end of my tank both are 22mm one for inlet and one for the outlet for the sump. I am planning on having a via-aqua 2600lph pump (at 0 head) pump, will this be too much flow going into the tank? will it be able to all get out the 22mm outlet?
  4. I use nz couriers and only had the odd fish die. The people at the post office say they aren't meant to take them but they send them for me anyway. I sent some guppies to queenstown left here at 5:00pm and arrive the next day at 7:00am
  5. ok, i am going to go for macrocarpa like you did peanuts. I am making it 200mm high and it will be in two sections, one at the front and one at the back. the front one will have a big hinge-top on it and the back one will hold the lights. now just need to build it
  6. yea i was leaning towards something like yours, if mdf is painted it will be ok wont it?
  7. the stand is just a steel one painted black, i aren't going to put wood on it, i am thinking about making a mdf lighthood painted black so that i matches the stand. However i could make one with a natural finish but not sure how it would look with the black stand.
  8. african cichlids of course, hoping for about 10 adult yellows, trio of blue peacocks, 1m 3f blue moorii a few synodontis and anything else i decide to put in there I have 10 baby melanochromis cyberhabdos that i will put in there when they have grown. Dan
  9. that stand looks awesome, what joints are they on the corners of the light hood? How are the rocks kept in place?? if they aren't glued i wouldn't sleep very well I am eagerly anticipating the completion of my new tank, should be about 740litres with the sump. It's 1350x790x710 :bounce: Anyone know how to make holes in limestone? Would a waterblaster be powerful enough or would i have to use a concrete drill? Dan
  10. marble chip for substrate comes in 25kg sack from hff under the african cichlid tank. or limestone or coral, whatever u want really.
  11. a longer tank is better i find in a 5foot they still have the odd quarrel but usually stay at each end
  12. hi best would be 2 males and 4-6 females to spread aggression. Try to make 2 different rock structures like craig had in his fontosa tank to one male gets a structure each. HTH Dan

    bio media

if you have another filter running on the tank then you can rinse one filter's media in tap water at one time, i have done this before.

you are meant to use tank water because the tap water many have chlorine in it that will kill the bacteria?

well when i first saw it i though copadichromis azureus but then when i had a good look it could be a croos like she said with a scaenochromis sp. and giraffe
  21. i think i have these as well, i am going to treat with formalin
  22. i get the same with both of our digi cameras, i find even without a flash looking straight on you still get a reflection, if the tank is quite far back (or if your fish are small) then you can stick the lens right up to the glass. Tripod would be a good idea too as caryl said, haven't tried our one for fish photos yet. :bounce:
