  1. i'd say 20-40 but i've had over 50 before
  2. yeah, I had a duboisi mate with a kenyi
  3. they can still suck them through the net though = squished fry
  4. we don't get spectrum foods over here
  5. The main food I use (especially for fry) is trout pellets, i know these have a high protein content but I find if you feed them in smaller amounts you can get good growth rates and you can also bulk up fish very easily before spawning, you also need to feed spirulina flake to get good colour, especially in yellows. Big malawis also get frozen peas, frozen shelled shrimps, spirulina flake, mealworms and earthworms (usually when my little brothers feel like it )
  6. we use marble chips? wouldn't this be pretty similar?
  7. go the africans cookies all the way. Freshup or Coke?
  8. I have dominant females like that too.
  9. hahahaha The male that is the father of these is one of the best I've seen but I now have a better one.
  10. I have 1male and 4female electric yellows in a 200 litre tank with some other fish. I bred and raised them myself. They are very poorly coloured. The parents are fine and other fry from the parents are normal as well. One lot of fry was a little pale but I just fed them lots of spriluina and they came right, these ones aren't coming right though. Is this genetics? Any help is much appreiated!
  11. I've seen rainbowfish (melanotaenia species) used quite successfully as dither fish. Mooloo? i think you had some didn't you?
  12. she's done it a few times now, she is about 10cm now so should be able to make eggs. lol ryan I think 2 of my borleyi females have a little bit of red and blue on them. 8)
  13. definately a male and female, I have vented them. If she wasn't capable of laying eggs then I would have though her egg layer would pop out and she would just not lay anything.
  14. that's even worse! :-? so i'm guessing it's really a female?
  15. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen before. I have a pair of dolphins in my 800l tank and a few times now i have seen them go onto a rock and do the spawning thing, the female puts he mouth on the male's anal fin as usual but she doens't lay any eggs?!
  16. ok I got e. yellows melanochromis cyanerhabdos scaenochromis ahli greshakei (ice blue zebra) Ob Zebra Orange Zeb. Blue Zeb. Crabro/Bumblebee Scaenochromis fryeri Dolphins Borleyi/Kadango lionheads Kenyi/Lombardoi Auratus Lithobates I think that's all, i probably forgot something *I knew it - I have 9 giraffes/venustus, bricardi and 1 lelupi (the latter 2 are for sale if anyone is interested
  17. i have quite a size difference between some of my kenyi fry, i have about 30 kenyi, 30 auratus, 30 yellows and 30 OB zebs. Most of the fish are around the same size but them there is a couple of really big kenyi?! could they be releasing hormones to stop the others from growing?
  18. a little dark but i'd say so, have you vented them to be sure they are females?
  19. I've never had white spot since I started keeping african cichlids, I was under the impression that the pH was too high for it or something!?
  20. 25mm is VERY small to sex a malawi cichlid i'd say 40mm is the minimum size to be accurate.
