it will be open at all times other than cleaning and i will turn the pump off at the same time - no water flow at all

i got the glass drilled for the overflow box today, i have some 32mm plumbing for the overflow only needs to go about 1m lol, i was thinking a ball valve on the overflow pipe so i can stop the flow down wheen i clean/change media. hopefully will set it up in another 4-5days without media and just with a temporary pump is about 2000lph enough?? otherwise i will get a 3300lph pond pump. i will get some pics of the overflow box.

Here is some pics of a setup i have just put together, too many jars for hanging on the front of tanks lol. Some are eggs some are fry. Water change daily. And BANG Malawi fry hehe Here is some bn fry that i hatched yesterday with tweezers

dunno but my two breeding malawi tanks are looking really good at the moment got approx 10 Jars maybe 12 with eggs or small fry with an air line into each hopefully will be overloaded with fry soon 8)

its a male, females have rounded on of their dorsal that one has a pointy dorsal so i say male.

i've seen plenty of clown loaches and plecos in malawis tanks go for it.

the sump is approx 150 litres can you explain the syphon break hole?? i am doing the same overflow box as freshwest has done but with glass. i will go with the 35mm plumbing for the overflow but i will have a ball valve so that i can reduce the amount of water flow down the pipe.

ok here are some pics of the sump tank i have made, will probably go and get the plumbing tomorrow, what size plumbing do you think i would need i'm thinking 35mm?? what are your thoughts. I have made an inside overflow box out of glass also, would it be ok to just drop the level of the tank dry the surface and just silicone it on to the inside of the tank?? i will only put silicone around the edges so i can easily remove with a razor blade or similar. What type of media is best? i was thinking the first third being sponges/filterwool going from coarse to fine, then some sort of ceramics, the plastic bio media (maybe chopped up straws??) then pH buffer (aragonite) and carbon maybe for water clarity?? let me know what you guys think. i hope i am on the right track lol

ok well pics 3,4&5 look like copadichromis to me, the top one some kind of aulonocara sp.

are these the black ones with the big lump from tanganyika?? if so i just got some adults so hopefully they will breed. i think i have 3 or 4 can't remember. good luck with raising them. :bounce:

my malawis just love the shrimps, they rip them to pieces, also bristlenoses seem to chomp through them quite happily. The only other guy i have met that feeds shrimps to malawis was graeme from hastings and i cleaned him out of malawis so that just leaves me lol. I'm sure i can get you a small container of them for $5 look up some info on culturing them and let me know if you want. oh btw what sort of cichlids, i dont cut up my shrimps, i just chuck them in whole, the big fish chew them up and scraps come out their gills for the smaller fish.

no not at the moment but they get assorted peacocks in (maylandi and jacobfreibergi last time i was there i think) didn't you say something about them getting supplied by redwoods? and didn't you get your male from there?? that must be confusing lol.
