  1. always laughed at the "No Pets" rule when your allowed to have children on the property.
  2. cuz the fluval edge lights are rather poor. upgrade them to "adequate", add co2 when you upgrade to really good.
  3. the comprehensive should be enough, but maybe a bit of the flourish iron if the ambulia gets a bit small and yellowish.
  4. found these today in the middle harbour. couldn't resist, will have to see how they go. there about 10 different kinds all in different colours. excuse the bad pic, it really doesn't show ff how brightly coloured they are (plus was taken after only in 1/2 an hour, has opened fully now)
  5. sorry didn't think of it that way when i posted.
  6. tbh, if you just upgrade the lights you should do ok with a bit of extra fert dosing, imo a CO2 system with those plants is not really worth it as they will all grow well given decent light and enough food.

    Project AA

looks heaps more refined wit the hair grass and less chain sword. keep up the good work.
  8. worst I've done is play with platy/ swordy hybrids, worked ok but all the males were fat with tiny swords, had to cross back to green swordies 3 times to get decent males again. Cichlid wise, nah have more fun just breeding pure
  9. nice to see one of your links is to the gagnam style video
  10. I'd believe it, saw a few JUMBO goldfish that lived in the collection pond from a large hydroponics setup, no food was ever given to them and I don't think any live food would have bred in there. When they died the autopsy showed that they had virtually no stomach or intestines and seemed to have been absorbing the nutrients through their skin
  11. what!!!!! go play with your tank, now before this "cleaning" thing becomes a problem forming habit
  12. if ammonia = 0 and nitrite = 0 and you are getting a nitrate reading, then time to add more fish :happy1:
  13. with gold guppies??? are you meaning the freshwater shrimp??? these are the Saltwater glass shrimp, Palaemon affinis and the tank is for the gobies, so i'm more likely to rehome the shrimp
  14. last one jumped out of the tank after a week or so.
  15. starting point for you. just to add fuel to the fire, we all do realise that one of the most interesting things about the cichlid family is the fact they hybridise quite commonly in the wild.
  16. hehehe, except they have virtually no sense of direction to get away, then waddle away kinda like a fishy penguin stick to comets.
  17. she lost the football match to the goby. any idea about how long before she drops them??
  18. can't say that without pics teasing is mean
  19. damn you, now i'm gonna go do that, i'll let you know if she will be selected for the all whites soon (not that hard)
  20. also Old glass is VERY hard to cut properly, new glass easy.... a lot of 6mm you will buy is actually quite old, easiest way to tell is to measure with a micrometer the edges of the glass, if they are not all very similar it is new, if one edge is noticeably thicker it is old glass... little fact to blow your mind... Glass is technically a Liquid.
  21. woot woot, my shrimp are in berry again, hopefully she doesn't jump out this time.... now I can learn about their life cycle a lot more, I have heard they do not have a planktonic stage.... will have to see. anyone know if they are fertilized before or after they are in berry??? here is the best pic I could get (seriously, trying to catch a shrimp for a photo is a mad proposition.) hehehe, the joys of a 21L nano tank, really annoyed I didn't see the act, definately happened since this morning (Actually think it happened in the last 2-3 hours)
  22. they are naturally more active during twilight hours.
  23. I thought Christchurch was several different islands atm
