  1. gotta find one of these for donna.
  2. give it a really good gravel siphon/water change and keep waiting. floculants are effective but can gum up your filter during your cycling stage making the overall process longer.
  3. Big Platies would be a nicer choice than swordies for that size tank, they are less aggressive and don't get as big as swordtails (normally). There are some nice platies around atm. I would stick to one sp. of cory.
  4. what are your nitrate readings, live bearers tend to get stunted growth in nitrates much above 20ppm
  5. Chi are pretty but they have sucky filtration, get a single dwarf puffer fish and some freshwater shrimp, the puffer might leave the shrimp alone and they will act as cleaners. plus you will fall in love with a pufferfish once it gets a little bigger. personally i put the chi into the group of aquariums designed to rake all the money out of beginner fish keepers and not designed to keep fish alive well
  6. +1 on checking for whitespot or velvet, also how long did you raise the pH over and are you adjusting your tapwater properly before doing water changes, tbh there is no reason to play with pH on NZ live bearers unless you are doing something really unusual.
  7. I still breed them up here in Tauranga, havent put any effort in recently due to moving house, but I have a few I could consider shipping down to you.
  8. check to make sure pH is not acidic and there is enough calcium in the water' try oyster grit if you need to bump it up a bit. Also feed them pumpkin and zuchini to get them ready. Drop your water level so there is a dry zone of around 5cm to give them extra room to lay eggs.
  9. I would look at another couple of yoyo's in the long term, ime they are great together but the yoyo will become a bully to the other when he is a bit larger. 3 yoyo's fully grown however may be a bit big for your current tank...... etc... http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/botia-almorhae/
  10. awesome work, you really need some pics!!!
  11. and any live food you can get, it should get him in the mood.
  12. this is a discussion i fear to enter...... :-?
  13. if you have the right attitude you will succeed, if you think that you can't deal with a sheep losing its bearings then you might struggle.
  14. Theropod dinosaurs were laying eggs well before they evolved into chickens. the real question here whould be what came first, the reptile or the amniotic eggs?
  15. depends on the condition of the females, if they are ripe then there possibly will already be eggs, just keep up a good feeding regime (lots of good dry and live foods) and you shouldn't have to wait long.
  16. im assuming 2-3 weeks for hatching time???, im getting impatient
  17. oops, my bad  this is what happens when I stop dealing with fish on a daily basis and fill my head full of other stuff.
  18. try a treatment with wundertonic or Methelyne Blue, both should be easily available from LFS, I personally prefer to cycle with fish so no lectures here, mouth fungus less likely to be caused by cycling problems than by poor handling during shipping/ mouth fungus is not the same as columinaris, as columinaris is a bacteria. however wundertonic should treat both potential problems. if it is only a few neons atm I would just sit back and wait and accept the odd mortlity or even euthanise the fish as it is worth about 1/2 the price of the smallest bottle of treatment (harsh but well.... true). as any treatment will slow down your cycling process quite a bit and make your experience of fish keeping into a chore instead of a hobby (plus it can stain your gravel/tank/ornaments)
  19. better to have the substrate in before hand as it provides a large surface are for the desired bacteria to grow on, just give it a gravel clean afterwards. plus its 10000X messier to add gravel after its full
  20. have no idea about temperature,no noticeable weather events at the time. the girl was ready to go though, bright orange fat belly for a week beforehand
  21. Mealworms causes obesity, cant have fat geckos running around now can we?
  22. also don't be surprised if people require a visit to check out you enclosure beofre letting you take them, its all for the good of the Gecko's
  23. knowing your tanks, olive clingfish?
