  1. I tried this, but the gravel is very bouyant and easily gets out of the way of the airstones
  2. Working at a building supplies company, I have been told there is only ONE product that does not have the mould inhibitor in it, (So I steered away from building my own tank). Check the sealant, they normally brag about how great they are at reducing mould build up, and not so much about how many other things it will kill in the process.
  3. I've got some at the moment also, just became free swimming over the weekend :happy1: I've had a look at some of the other posts, and some people have said that only about 20 out of their 80 survived Is this normal?? At what stage do they start dying off? Mine all seem perfectly happy, I don't think I've lost a single one yet :happy1:
  4. I'm on Orcon at home, using their Genius plan, which is a naked DSL with VOIP calls. 30GB of data, and free local calls, $70/month. We HAD been using Telecom but they were dicking us around :an!gry with line static not being fixed and all sorts of dramas, so we swapped to Orcon. We were with Orcon even before Genius. They were great then too. It was a real pain trying to get Genius set up, but now that's it's up and running, I wouldn't switch back. With Orcon, we have NEVER had speed issues. Always running the max that our line can support, and not a byte less. VOIP requires power. If you are worried about losing power, get a UPS. In a natural disaster, phone lines go dead just as fast as power lines.
  5. First things first - good substrate. give your plants a fighting chance
  6. Happy Birthday - I hope its a good one!
  7. Hey all, I have recently updated the aquascape, and thanks to the wife I have got a light (finally!) and we have attached the java moss to an apricot branch. Full width shot Closer shot of the apricot branch, with moss tied to it. Closer shot of the left side Closer shot of the right side The gravel is very thin, maybe about 15mm. Keeping in mind that this tank was done on a tight budget (expecting another child...) The filter is an Aqua One Aquis 1200 Canister Filter. Three air stones are plugged in, one small one on each side and a medium air stone in the centre. The bamboo makes an excellent breeding cave for the bristlenose. They were not interested in the larger pot-cave. Various plants have been accumulated and planted. I can name a couple but not all. Floating is a bunch of Indian fern. The Gourami love this. Two 150W heaters, one on each side.
  8. There you go Graham, your next project :digH:
  9. What food would you normally feed your pleco? I've got the algae wafers but I also use fresh cucumber as a treat.
  10. Nice, but I definitely want the red, not the yellow. Orange is a maybe.
  11. My tank has several bamboo shoots to make caves, as well as a pot turned upside down with a 50mm diameter hole drilled in the side, providing a large cave if needed. A couple of large chunks of driftwood. Should be plenty. Just got to make sure filtration etc can handle it, I'll do my research. There's nothing on their site about them, so I'll have to call them
  12. Awesome. How long are they when you get them from the store? I'ld love to get some smaller ones.
  13. Anyone got a Redfinned Pleco? Pics? Can we get them here in NZ, and if so, how much (ballpark?)?
  14. Nice. Anyone know a magical way of changing a wife's mind about MTS? :dunno:
  15. External Canister filters dont have fiddly little bits. theres the plug and that's it.
  16. Where were you when I was setting up my tank? I'm planning a re-do to make the plants grow right. My Tank Set up your own here I love bristlenose catfish. Tetra's add numbers and colours, I've been told some fish nip the danio's tails. Silver sharks get way too big and only look cool either really small or really big, :slfg: Apistogramma or Rams will add some festivity, but I've read that the Apisto's will fight with the bristlenose(who may lose an eye in the process, scary!) I've got Golden Honey Dwarf Gourami. Nice and small, but FULL of personality. They play tag :happy2:
  17. Hi, Yes, it's in the right place. I'm at work so I can't view the clip, but aquaone has several filters available if you're planning a straight swap rather than a fix and repair. I'm using a Aqua One CF1200 for my 245L Tank, but it can handle up to 300L. Maybe the next size down, a Aqua One CF1000 would do the job? LFS (Local Fish Store) would be more than happy to help. HFF's (Hollywood Fish Farm) website also has a lot of good info. Welcome to the forums Hope we can help. Kind Regards, Sheepsnana
  18. This doesn't work for everyone: + = < :an!gry Wasp> + < :nilly: :nilly: >
  19. How are you allergic to both wasps and bees? I am severely allergic to bees, but wasps have a very different venom. Do you know what kind of wasp it is? Different wasps can be dealt with in different ways: Some wasps are underground nesters and a flea bomb thrown in works wonders  Others are outside nesters with paperlike nests - these are fun. Spray linx (not fly spray) then ignite. Spraying flyspray straight away will just piss them all off. not as much fun.
  20. Dog's have owners, cat's have staff.
  21. It's not that simple, I have my current tank, and no access to a 12 foot tank
