  1. He had his brother mis-declare them as gifts and toys, so no-one was looking for plantlife.
  2. No thanks. Bunnies Yes, annoying loud, obnoxious roosters, no thanks. The farm already has three.
  3. Noob question: What's wrong with Marimo balls? Wikipedia says they don't grow naturally here...?
  4. Those poor fish... I wonder how they survived in such a crowded tank? The TM stock level: And that's without the 11 little fish that they don't know! My stock level:
  5. I'm still waiting for mine to lay eggs, but i'll need to know this when it finally happens. bump.
  6. How do you get the bamboo to sink? :nilly:
  7. In Gisborne these things are really common, you will find them in most back yards. Most people there don't bother with the permits. They only regrow the tail once. Be nice.
  8. Consumer guarantee's act should cover you. this is why you bought a extended warranty. they should not be able to charge you anything to replace it, except MAYBE freight. Take it to where you bought it from, as they should be the ones in charge of contacting apple on your behalf. I have been down this road before (not with an apple. ) They tried charging me an inspection fee, but I just said "here's the receipt, it's still under warranty. Until you can tell me that it's water damage, it's your problem" Got it fixed at no cost.
  9. I've been keen to get some too, but I was warned that they would completely destroy my new guppies. I trust the person who told me this, so either I sell 4 guppies for $20, or I'm stuck with them...
  10. The swords, Lysa, and purple/green plants were from Animal Antics, about $6 each. Most have tripled in size over two months, the Lysa keeps growing to reach the surface. The Java moss, which I got from LivingArt, had a few stow-aways in it, which was the java fern and a couple more little ones - similar to swords. The java ferns have tripled in size over a couple of weeks and the sword-like plants are coming along slowly also. Panaramic photo:
  11. You'll spend the first 12 months trying to get them to walk and talk, then the next 16 years getting them to sit down and shut up :nilly:
  12. Well I've added two conc. tiles, one on top of the other. They seem to like it, Doug hardly ever leaves the underside of the top tile now, whereas before he would hardly leave the driftwood. Jesse explores more, but even she has taken a slight liking to the new feature in the tank. She's vary rarely under the tile though, she prefers to sit on top. Now to wait and see...
  13. From what I have read, White Spot will ALWAYS get worse before it gets better. This is generally the parasite "flipping out" trying to survive.
  14. Just a thought, have you considered talking to your local glass manufacturers? If it's your last one, you might wanna give making one yourself a go. Shopping around, some custom made tanks can even be cheaper than some tanks on TradeMe, and especially cheaper than some custom made bought-new ones. The down side is, if you don't know what your doing, you can end up with a massive mess. :slfg:
  15. Pak N Save generally doesnt stock the Sun Country brand. You might have to bite the bullet and spend the $4 at countdown instead :gigl:
  16. Sadly bloodworms aren't the best for me. Bought two packs of the frozen ones. I may have just gotten a bad batch, but every time I add them, fish die. I only use bloodworms just before a water change, so there's no left overs, and I make sure that I defrost them in hot water and serve by hand, so they're not left out for too long and they're not still frozen.
  17. Very cool idea. I'll see what I can find around the place, I've got some tiles that If stacked carefully wouldn't look too out of place, and I wouldn't have to wait three days to put it in and see if they like it. I may even be able to wedge some plants in... I think the cave may be what's missing... it can't hurt to try.
  18. Hey all! I've had my bristlenose pair for about a month now, and although they seem pretty happy, they don't seem very interested in each other. It's a community tank with driftwood providing both nutrients and shelter. I bought a breeding pair from another breeder, so I thought it would be pretty simple. So far I've put it down to patience. Give it more time, and they'll get there when they're ready. But from what I've been reading, most people have difficulty stopping their bristlenoses from going at it like bunnies. I know the first thing you're going to ask is "how's the water?" The answer is clean. I get my water tested every week, and apart from the odd occasional tiny spike in ammonia, the nitrites and nitrates are 0. PH is a steady 6.9/7.0. Water is also changed weekly. I've read that they like hard water. I have no way of testing the hardiness of my water, so I don't know if that is the issue or not. Any ideas? :nilly:
  19. Fruitcake is a no-no. There is some delusions that people buy a new one each year. The truth is, it's the same fruitcake, no-one is eating it, ever. It gets a new ribbon each year, that's it. Now you know the truth. Don't eat the fruitcake.
  20. We have a wonderful selection at our place. Brekkie is normally toast, orange juice, fried bacon and eggs, hash browns, and fried tomato. Lunch is the bigger meal of the day. Roasts of Chicken (NOT Turkey), Lamb, Beef and of course, Champange ham! A simple, yet damn delicious glazing for the ham: Roses Orange Marmelade. It's available from most supermarkets. It's simple and its great. Fresh spuds boiled, with plenty of butter. Some roasted spud, kumara and pumpkin also. Salads are simple. Generally unfinished. Dinner (aka supper) is generally left overs from lunch. Pudding is vanilla icecream, various jellies, apple crumble, custard... I'm getting hungry.... Pavlova is a must. Fresh cream on top, with strawberries. Kiwifruit ruins it IMO. Pav always tastes better if you make it yourself. It's not too hard to do, just cook it late at night and don't open the oven til the morning. Drinks during the day: If you like alcohol, most people knock a few back. For those of us who don't drink, try SunCountry grape juice, either red or white is fine. Hope you have a good one!
  21. Man that sucks! Have you spoken to your insurance agent? I'm pretty sure we can throw the thieves in there too. I don't understand it. I get that if you're short on change, or food, drastic measures may be required. But I put those drastic measures down as GET A JOB. Stealing is just plain wrong. ESPECIALLY presents for the kids. If there's anything we can do to help out, please just ask.
  22. I was thinking the same thing, but I'm still learning... all and any advice will be considered.
  23. The instructions said to, but I was unsure if it was necessary... The fish are all still moving, that's got to be a good sign
  24. It would have been, but the back is tinted, and the holes for the canister filter are on the back too. so the un-used internal filter has been brought to the front. Please excuse the bad lighting... and lunch on the table... Other than that, it's looking pretty good. No fake plants this time, and the fake coral has been removed also.
